To be horribly honest, I think AVI-8 targets customers who are not really interested in technical details, so that vibration per hour mark 'says' not too much for them. It's just 'cool', its over 9000! - what more could you ask?

Love that red sweeping hand and crown on the watch and I totally agree with you on crystal distortion. Its the reason I just love the timex Marlin.

Sometimes I feel that I can like a watch but not necessarily own it. I love how this looks, especially the "rotor" design language they have in multiple places on the bezel, dial and even the heart-insert. Yet the size would look sinister on my wrist. Thanks for the review.

Great review Jory. I really like the brand. Did some reviews on this brand and Laguiole. Yes Avi8 is a play on Aviation! Btw love that you are a Laguiole fan aswell. 👍

I was not AVI-8 fan, but was quite fascinated by this design concept and ordered the black arrow model. As an homage to Avon engine & Jet era, the open-heart and skeleton would make perfect sense, as well as ridiculous imprinting on "vibrations" per hour. Somehow I feel a bit distinguished by other negative feedbacks. 😄

Just ordered one of these. If you want to see a large pilots watch you want to try the Panzera Flieger 46, this is a large watch but it wears very comfortable, I have one on a leather strap.

I like it, and a 16 year old me would have kicked himself owning it. To me it looks a bit like a mechcanical Casio G shock wich leaves the question do you go for that or the avi8 or both of them.

That watch looks so bad I was disappointed there wasn't a model airplane kit inside. Looks exactly like a watch you can buy from street sellers in Rome and Istanbul, and I'm sure other places too. As for all the unnecessary text, maybe next time they can make the big AUTOMATIC sticker you pulled off permanent.

I would pass on this one, but; it could be me just not liking "open heart" watches of any brand. However, AVI-8 does make a slate gray conventional B dial that I am fond of.

I have the wrist for it, but not the taste. It's far too busy for my liking, and is definitely flamboyant as all get out. You can replace the clasp.

Like many AVI-8s it’s a playful watch, but aside from being the size of a tea saucer it’s just not something I’d wear out of the house. 395 clams is a little too many, around $300 would be more reasonable.

Got the Type-300 on the way and have been bombarded with ads for this one. Was genuinely interested at the time even with the dial being pretty eccentric but actually seeing a proper review.... not great. Slightly got me concerned about the Type-300 and the quality.....

Idk if its just me, but the polishing on the open heart is just horrific. Also hate those cheap clasps, feel terrible, sound terrible. At least it has milled clasp links though. Honestly they did a great job though overall. They pulled that wild design off

AV8 is a beautiful concept but in this case very poorly executed. Look at those crappy indexes and rough-looking metal surfaces. There are some 200 dollar Seikos out there that are flawless. This watch looks like something from a vending machine.it's a no for me.

I know it's a "pilot's" watch, and only 50m water-resistant, but I'd rather a threaded crown... over the finishing details (it's so busy they are not noticeable without macro). As for the design language, not my style but I don't mind it - don't agree with the love/hate thing.

Not a pilots watch imho. If a pilot was wearing it, I would be concerned about the amount of time he would have to spend squinting at it to tell the time, as opposed to avoiding mountains and tall buildings. Why is it advertising a fairly mediocre low beat in bright red? If I want some gaudy overly busy watch, I’ll take my fifteen bucks to AliExpress... Great vid 👍🏻

YAH THEY ARENT BOASTING THE NUMBER...ITS JUST TECH IN RED TOADD COLOR POP AND MATCH UP W THE SECOND HAND WHEN IT SWEEPS BY EVERY 30 SECS. IF THIS WAS IN A 36 OR 38 ID SPORT IT LIKE I DO MY SEA CRAWLERS WHEN I WANT FUN TIME LIKE WHEN I DO MY G SHOCKS.

I can't stand watches that are so hard to read the time on. Those hands get lost against that dial. Kinda defeats the purpose of a pilots watch if you can't read it at a glance.

AVI-8 seems to put forward an aviation view point with terms like Hawker Hunter which were very much British planes but there is nothng whatsoever that i can see that relates to this in the design of the watch. Watch makers like Christopher Ward has done a very much better job in this aspect.

I’m a pilot. I always laugh at “pilot watches”. First off, most pilots I know are cheap af and so it’s a timex at best. It’s sooooo rare for a pilot to wear a nice watch. Secondly, pilots rarely wear “pilot” watches. It’s usually “wannabe pilots” or student pilots wearing “pilot” watches. Lol.

I think they need to concentrate on making a watch functional over just appearance. This over busy appearance looks tacky, try-hard, and very cheap. Seems like it would only appeal to people who aren't really into watches.

Idk - for $400, the finish on the movement should be better. Or they should hide it. I don’t see this as edgy at all - it’s very Invicta inspired. That appeals to a number of people, but not this pilgrim. I find it boring.

H8 the childish text speak brand name. Looks quite cheap and tacky & way too modern design for a beautiful old historic aircraft. The bridge thingy at 3 ruins legibility too. A shame as I love old war planes ( Friend of Duxford) & obviously watches too, but this is an insulting attempt to cash in on a fan favourite fighter. Cheers mate 👍🏻

An eyesore. A design that has so much going on it slid from “out there and playful” right into cheesy. Even Breitling laughs at it. Not liking the “not really at a glance… Give me a minute“ time telling function.
