World War II produced some of the most exotic and fearsome prop-driven planes ever to soar across enemy skies. Japan's air might started the war with a bang, drooping out of the skies on a quiet Sunday morning in December of 1941, to catch the American military in Hawaii completely off guard. That single carefully planned attack, superbly executed, wiped out the U.S. Navy's line of battleships and opened the door for Japan's island conquests in southeast Asia. Japanese planes were also a surprise for the Americans, especially the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, a lightly armored, but extremely fast and highly maneuverable single-engine fighter. Sound track includes a BBC Pearl Harbor announcement, followed by three traditional Japanese selections, "Song of the Dragon and Phoenix," "Deep Forest," and "The Samurai Song."
