ReadyReed, while you are still too young to enlist into the Air Force, it is never too early to start preparing. There are a few things you can do now to prepare for once you reach the required age. First study hard and graduate from high school. Get the best grades you can in all subjects especially English, Math and Science. This will help you improve your score on the ASVAB test which is required for enlistment. Say no to drugs and get an early start on physical conditioning are important steps in the right direction. And stay out of trouble. Law violations can delay and in some cases will disqualify you from joining the Air Force and taking advantage of the opportunities available. However, they may speak to recruiters when they come to their high school. If qualified you can join at age 17 with parental consent during your junior or senior year in high school as part of The Air Force Ambassador Program and enter the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), but you will not go to Basic Military Training (BMT) until AFTER you graduate high school. @@samuelgodsey1327 your mental health will be completely stressed daily. You’ll be expected to get 12 hours of work done in 6-8 hours. It will completely tarnish your soul. I don’t have feelings these days. But I do see happy 18-22 year olds come in with smiles and joy and in 2 years or even less have a completely different mindset, attitude, outlook altogether. Absolutely no one cares about your well being. I’ve lost quite a few close friends to suicide and a few others that I didn’t know too well. Work at finance, Intell, CSS or FSS. Trust me.

@@samuelgodsey1327from what I’ve researched, it’s incredibly demanding OR your never actually flying.. From what I’ve researched most pilots say they are gone all the time. It wouldn’t be so bad but your service requirement is 10 years! Lots of missed family times. Then there are people who say there is a side where you basically get stuck doing paper work 24/7 and you hardly get to fly.
