In this quick surprise installment of Aviation News we will discuss the recent collision and resulting accident of the Harbour Air Canada Sea Plane that occurred on June The plane in question (C-FFHA) 🇨🇦 was a 75 year old De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver equipped with pontoons and designated as a "Sea Plane" or Floatplane. this is an interesting accident due to the circumstances and we will discuss what is known so far and what could've likely happened to contribute to this accident* Thankfully this accident only left passengers on the plane and the boat with minor injuries and no fatalities occurred! The only "fatality" was to this beautiful airplane, which will never fly again.* This could've ended much worse but thankfully & miraculously due to the quick thinking of the pilot and the people aboard the boat, everyone survived!
The official cause of this accident is still unknown and under investigation by the relevant aviation authorities and I don't wanna make any speculations as to the cause of the accident but when the cause of the accident is revealed, I will leave a pinned comment to the investigation report below ⬇️

Additionally my friends and fellow trip reporters Wingin' It Paul Lucas ‪@Paul_Lucas‬ and Noel Phillips ‪@noelphilips‬ Both have made excellent videos flying on Harbour Air and since I have yet to fly on any float planes yet, I have linked both of their awesome videos here & to the end of this video. Please feel free to check them out and subscribe to their channels as well, they both rock! If you're one of them watching, cheers mates! 🥂
Paul's Video: • AMAZING Vancouver Seap...
Noel's Video: • Onboard North America'...

Hey Caleb, I'm flattered you chose to use a thumbnail of mine. I am curious as to why you chose the Otter at 4:16 of your video and not a Beaver? I have many great shots of C-FFHA if you would like to use any. C-FODH is the oldest Otter still flying, she's a beautiful machine. Wishing you much success on your RU-vid journey. Best....Corrie

Looking at this, looks like pilot thought he could make a attempt to hop over. Instead if he had a load and saw the boat, I would have rolled the plane onto the right float for take off behind the boat. I've done this many time to get more lift to take off, other wise the atc needs to be more forceful demanding the pilot to abort...which means pull over and nose in the floats and drop rudders at the same time...should be part of training.

I wholeheartedly agree. This had to have been a problem or oversight by more than one person....

I have flown Harbor Air out of Vancouver over to Victoria several times. Spectacular little planes. I do not think the pilots have much visibility.

I'd agree with that. I've been in several DHC-2 Beaver Aircraft and the visibility, especially on the ones with floats is not great due to the increased angle they have to sit on the water. additionally on takeoff they have to keep the nose very high to ensure the back of the floats clear the water as well and avoid any ground effect or suction forces by the water...

Both pilot and boat skipper should be banned for life and sent to the nearest optician!!

I don't think that would be the worst solution... I still don't get how both the boat captain & pilot didn't see one another! 🤯

@@Calebs_Aviation Perhaps you should ask them, seeing as how you weren't there.

@@eddieedmondson7698 Never claimed that... Just in aviation there's a rule called See & Be Seen had that happened this could potentially been avoided...

@TheUnknownVideographer Very true plus most small boat occupants 🛥️ are probably drunk! 😵‍💫 🍺
