The HARSH BANG shifts seem to be because I have COBB LC in my ECU tune and it didn't like KICKDOWN with EQT DSG tune. I've learned the COBB LC disables the EQT DSG multi-rpm LC, so.. in the future I'll be changing my ECU tune to remove COBB LC so I can try EQT 3500/3750/4000 RPM launch control. But this video still is useful, shows to avoid KICKDOWN to avoid harsh shfiting and redline shifting. You want smooth shifts and peak power RPM, not max RPM for best 0-60. 3.812s is my best and I know I can likely get faster in the future without COBB LC.
@@CA-td2mx To avoid the kickdown stop and hold the pedal down right at the point of resistance. When you press the pedal past the point of resistance that is the kickdown throttle switch
Hey John that's very impressive, 0-60 in 3.8. Just wow, we've come a long way with all of this fancy technology. Even though a launch is much more sophisticated in a automatic car I still prefer manual. My 2004 toyota matrix xrs 6 speed does an estimate of 0-60 in about 6 seconds and it also depends on how well I launch it too. No perks, old cable throttle technology on the intake. Modifications done: well first the motor is a 2zzge designed by Yamaha motors with a vvtLi Innovation, Ingen cold air intake, tein lowering springs, dc sports upper strut tower bar. Gets me from point A to B that's for sure, but when I crave a little speed this little wagon doesn't disappoint. Anyway really enjoyed your review.✌🏼
Had the same issue the other day with stage 2 APR, the launch rpm is 5K with full throttle and it is so crazy, no way to get a good launch time full throttle, just spins out. This will help me get a better time. Lowest so far is 3.53
I picked cobb launch control with my ecu tune and it llaunches like poop. I am eqt e30 stage 1 ecu and tcu. Revs to 4k. Then boggs to 2k. When clutch engages. Thanks for the video just re ordered the ecu tune without the option.
I have 2015 GSW FWD O9G 6 speed Auto with APR IS20 Tune and I think the kick down is causing my car to go to limp mode. Now just trying to figure out best way to launch the car or put peddle to the floor and not get a bad shift. WOT @ 6000+ rpm is in all modes is throwing me in to limp mode with EPC light.
How much hp and torque did u get from EQT stage 1. When go on a acceleration(not launch control)from a stop or driving. full throttle or kick down gives better acceleration?
It’s significant. You are looking at about 80hp and 100ft lbs more than stock on pump 91 gas. I rarely use kickdown, the lag it takes to drop the DSG to lowest gear you can accelerate faster without that. Just squeeze the throttle get it into booooost and it rips! 28psi. Stock is ~19 I think. The power graphs are on EQT website for all the fuel options.
Yes it does, I mention that at the end. Give enough throttle to activate LC at desired RPM, let go brake and go full throttle on accel without pressing kickdown switch on floor. Easier said than done, takes some practice.
I guess ill be the first comment here haha. BTW, what the hell was that big harsh bang when it was shifting into 3rd? I noticed my R sometimes does a similar thing too, upshifting in Manual Mode around 3k rpm with partial throttle, both stock and stg1 tune. Not a big bang like yours but a similar shaky feel. Do you have any better idea about this? Mine is a 19 DSG R and has Unitronic tune (ECU stg1 and TCU stg2) Love you videos.
Yes the shift into 3rd was harsh too on the 3.8s run. I might have pressed kickdown switch before shifting into 3, as it’s hard to avoid it until you get practice. I wish it could be disabled. Try to hover just over it when running hard and see if you get smoother shifts, I bet you will!
In general the DQ381 7speed seems a bit more inconsistent even with tunes applied. Hopefully the tunes a can be refined even more in the future but it might be a hardware limitation also.
@@netcruzer Thanks for the quick reply. I can't agree more with you about this, the 7 speed is definitely finickier than the 6 speed on my mk7 GTI. The 2nd to 3rd harsh shift seems to be a very common problem even for stock 7.5 Rs. My R does shaky harsh shift in manual mode mostly from 3rd to 7th, a little shaky that I can defnietly feel it in the cabin, not a big bang though. Full throttle or LC no problem what so ever, but some minor rattles here and there. I am also kinda worried about braking my DSG cuz you know haha, no warranties for us anymore.
@@netcruzer Definitely noticing inconsistencies in the DQ381 shifting, even with the APR stage 1 DSG tune. I'll be starting data logging soon, and hopefully we can compare notes!
So as of right now is the 6spd DSG faster to 60 than the 7spd? I am just wondering which one will hold up longer with the way we drive our cars? I am guessing the 7spd is only for better MPG or is it supposed to be more stout? BTW, your videos are awesome and I subscribed to the other channel as well.
Since we have Cobb LC in our tune and want to remove it, we have to buy a tune change - eqtuning.com/products/bundle-e-tuning-add-ons?_pos=1&_sid=cae793d79&_ss=r&variant=17504200032346
Base map options change and tell them you want OEM LC and provide your original order #. Think about what you want for burbles and other options too, you can change more than one thing but just stay on same map you had.
I’ve not made a video about that. I can’t test auto/start stop anymore since EQT tune has disabled it completely due to Cobb ECU ROM consolidation use for 2018 Golf R tunes. Look on OBDeleven forums or VCDS for info about how to adjust voltage range for start/stop.
Hi, what do you mean by "kickdown"? I thought kickdown was when the gearbox changes down gear/s. Whereas you are doing 0-60 times and only changing up gear.
kickdown switch at bottom of throttle pedal, tells the transmission to drop to lowest gear and hold until redline, instead of shifting at optimal powerband.
What fuel do you use? I am in AB and I am getting some bad knock retardation on my cobb tune even when I go to stage 0. Considering switching to EQT. Thanks it advance! :)
Mild ones. Resonator delete, modified airbox, High flow AFe dry air filter. So better intake and exhaust and the tunes. It’s a little rocket! Also a ton of canbus coding modifications including Audi linear throttle response.
Would the same happen if kickdown is disabled? i thought i read somewhere that when ordering the tune, you have the option to disable the kickdown switch
I'm betting high 4's but you could do a brake boost to get it up to 1500 or so, that would probably help. Best option is a pedal box for helping the lag off the line if your not doing a launch. I have one of those :)
Sorry but your dsg tune is not good 😅 if you have a good tune this will never happen with shifting gears! I got the 2015 R stage 2 and wenn i do it this will not happen!
