You don’t need it in race mode to do launch control, and you can do it in manual mode. I think it’s more effective just using sport mode though. It really is a lot of fun! Most people who say the R is boring have probably never driven one.

Iv'e been driving 28 years but always had motability cars and you dont get no no claims bonuses when you have a motability car which sucks big time if i did get my own car to run myself id be classed as a new driver when i'm not. One advice that I heard from my friend (he has Golf R),when you activate Launch ,dont hold your revs built up on (3-4 k rpm) for too long.Because thats burning your clutch.Anyway awesome video,really happy you enjoy car.WIsh you all of luck with Ownership :D !!

Dad has the face lift Audi S3 which is basically the same car as the golf R! I absolutely love it im hoping to buy a 7.5 R early next year! Don’t suppose you could do a video around... running cost: insurance, mpg, how much a full tank gets you... blah blah blah

The cupra is a winner for me, I pick mine up in March, before I ordered it I done plenty of checks on Cupra vs Golf R... obviously the Golf is 4wd and launches quicker, but the Cupra is so much quicker up top end due to it being so much lighter (fwd) either way, both cars are great, just prefer the bang for buck you get with the Cupra!

I have the Thinkware 800 pro and it's definitely worth installing. Also have a Metatrak tracker as they're quite desirable cars! I also recommend changing the paddles for Racingline replacements.

Good video. I have the same car with the "Spielberg" 19' rims. Remember when you press the ESC/ASR button, is a 2 step button, if you press it once you just disconnect one of them, for the launch control you should press this button for more than two seconds until confirmation, to disconnect both of them. 3,67 second is a really good time, enjoy body!!

I had the F770 in my Mk6; ended up paying for itself thrice over, being crashed into three times in a year in it, all all times it was the back camera that was the most important in capturing the incidents! Just picked up a MK7 GTi PP and have fitted the F800 Pro, will always run with a dash cam after past experience!

I’ve had my 7.5 for over a year and still haven’t launched it proper. I enjoy driving it so much that I just don’t think about trying to launch it hard. I’m going to do it finally in the next couple of days and I’ve got a perfect place to do it that’s very close by.

I've seen people who do it alot will get haldex problems! Also it's lot of pressure on your dsg and tires! I've heard from several people that you can do around 250 lc's, it's really amazing tho

I’ve been in the mk7 not 7.5 yeah they are pretty quick. My friend took to 140mph and it was still very stable

Fit Revo stage 3 turbo. With a good remap 500hp possible. You then have a 10 sec 1/4 mile beast !

Beautiful car and countryside! Nice production value on the B-roll shots. That reaction at ~8-min mark is precisely how I felt the first time I launched in a 2014 GTR Black Edition. You just never forget your first hole-shot experience in a fast car. Lots of giggling and swearing, disbelief. "Can we do that again?" Brilliant fun. 😆❤ P.S. - the R launches in here look smooth, by the way. Like the car's ESC system is sharp at managing wheel spin, even on a damp road. By comparison the GTR I was in just felt VIOLENT and angry in the first 2 gears. Spun all 4 tires on concrete. #hulksmash...

I must say I had the exact same reaction on my first launch. I had no idea it was that quick. It has a Remus cat back exhaust and Racingline R 600 intake. So far! Good on ya, mate.

Have you tried holding ESC for 5 seconds? I've heard it might be faster. It gives you a second prompt and fully disables esc

Nice Man! Right now I'm driving a 15 WRX with an MAPerformance Stage 1 93 octane ECU flash, and I'm looking at getting a Golf R instead. I love the power of the stage 1 Rex but the suspension sucks over the crappy roads on my daily work commute. I do need AWD for the crazy New England winters though, that's why I'm looking at the Golf R.

I'm extremely glad i got the 1.8 5 speed manual. I really don't get how these cats feel amazing with dsg. yes, I've modded various ends of the vehicle to get my car gaptizing gti's. obviously playing apples to oranges with a fully built this vs. that, isnt much of a question in reality. but the fact i still got a clutch to control just shows how much more fun i have in comparison to a car doing half the transitions for me lol I've tryed DSG f.y.i. it sucks the fun out of things.

Might be a different market thing, but I'm over in America with a 2019, and when in automatic mode, I'm not seeing current gear in the digital dash (Just D or S as opposed to S1, S2, S3 etc.) That come stock on yours mate, or did you plop it in with ODBEleven or the like?

I haven’t watched each and every video you’ve made (yet), but saw you admitted that launch is somewhat downhill. Have you found a level patch to test again? I JUST bought a 2019 R and only have about 35 miles on it, so I’m taking it easy for at least the first thousand before I try launch control and throttle pinned.

I'm a little confused on sport mode on the shifter in the dsg and race mode? So if I put the car in the race mode will it automatically put me into S mode on the shifter. And can I be in S mode on the shifter but in Normal mode in the drive modes?

if the time is real, this is mapped both ECU and TCU. Stock isnt putting out 3.7s. Mine is modifed and putting out around 370BHP and hits this time, not stock. No chance.

Don't think the launch control exhaust sounds very good, maybe its just the recording. Considering getting the estate myself, but the DCC ones are quite rare. I was at Regal this week having a service and asked about mods on a R, sounds like the car to get.

Marvey Singh I own a APR Stage 2 MK7 R with a milltek non res non valved catback with an APR downpipe, and there is nothing that has changed my Golf R more than the exhaust. It is worth every penny to get yourself atleast a quality aftermarket catback, but if u go further and connect that with an aftermarket downpipe aswell, the car turns into a totally different animal. Seeing the guys reaction driving a stock R is funny, would love him to hop into a stage 2 R right after and do launches in that for a comparison. Hahaha. A res delete will be barely noticeable

Moral of the story, don't try to achieve an "aftermarket" sound by modifying and deleting components of your stock exhaust. If you want proper/quality/true sound, cough up the dough and get yourself a quality aftermarket system. You'll never be disappointed by it. Completely changes the car.

Hi there great vid. I have just ordered my 2019 plate R for next year. Apparently, my dealer told me you can only do 3 launch controls then the car is either knackered or warranty void! Confused? Any help or guidance anyone? Is this right James

Total balls....but then that's a dealer response so to be expected. If you want to get the most inaccurate information, ask a dealer - ask them anything. If you do too many launch controls in a row the car will refuse to launch until the gearbox cool's down. It is covered under warranty but like anything there is a get out clause if abused.

My BF is sales manager for VW, I'm sure he told me it can do it about 20 times, I will double check and let everyone know. Its not something that you will use often anyway, I got the fright of my life the first time I tried it in a GTI, I didn't expect it to be that quick.

There is no limit on how many times you can do it over the life of the car....but doing it too often will prematurely wear the clutch out and eventually you will start to get clutch slip in some gears.

Mechanical sympathy is always needed. so you think you can launch your car as much as you want then something breaks and you then expect the warranty to cover it lol keep dreaming. The main dealer will plug it in and say a big fat no no. My clutch started to slip in my manual 2016 with only 18 k and I was told it's how it's been driven and wanted nearly 2 grand to replace it with a standard one haha no thanks.
