Great video! I’ve found something super helpful for me when using PU resin is to weigh out part A and mix all the colorant, glitter, metal powder, etc into that, THEN weigh in part B and do a quicker stir. I find that helps so it can get really thoroughly mixed without wasting precious pot time!

I can't see where to send you a PM so here goes. I saw every video you've made. I learned more than I originally knew. I usually make tumblers, but have used molds as well. I purchased the JDiction fast curing on your suggestion. I have had nothing but trouble for WEEKS! I thought it might be the temp in my workshop, then the humidity. After fixing those I was still getting pits in my epoxy. When I say pits I mean thousands of pits. Not like regular bubbles. I could feel them like they were sand! I had much trouble scraping off my epoxy so I did not have to go through so much sanding as I have done for weeks now. That's when I realized that it was the epoxy, not the temp or humidity or anything else. What is happening? I have used it at room temp and I have warmed it in a sink of hot water. I have applied it with my hands. I have applied it with my spatula. Thin coats, thick coats. Every time I get pitting...lots and lots of pitting! This epoxy is very bad for tumblers. I do not usually have any issues creating my beautiful tumblers... until I ran out of my epoxy and started using the JDiction at your suggestion. And then I was so depressed and started questioning my own abilities. Has anyone else had this problem? As I said, you can literally feel something like 'sand' under your fingers as you apply this resin!

Yes, I had the same issue with jdiction resin on tumblers. I got with my contact over there and they were just finding out about the issue too so now they will state on that specific resin that it is not for use on tumblers 🥲 luckily I was able to use it up for other projects 🥰 I haven't done any resin for awhile now so they may have come out with something special for tumblers now. I also LOVE jdiction products! I have used their casting resin, doming resin (4 hr cure), their clear silicone for mold making and also their UV resin (that was the first product I tried) and I will never use a different UV resin ever again bc it's the absolute best by far! I also love their mica powders! In fact I got quite a large set for free way back and they're just gorgeous 😍.

@@denim2132 it was a light that came with a nail set I bought several years ago. No particular brand that I can see 🤔 It does have light on 3 sides though. The only time it doesn’t seem to work is if I use too much alcohol ink. Learned that lesson! Also can’t be too deep.

It's my understanding taht in the US, if it claims to be food safe, it must have passed FDA approval. I wouldn't heat it and proceed to serve anything in it. The same is true of any plastics. Borosilicate is apparently safe.

I wonder, can you mix pigments into your part A PU resin before mixing with part B? The only PU resin I've been able to get my hands is the Amazing stuff, and it seems like it has a pot time of about 3.5 seconds, so anything that might give me a tiny bit more time to pour would be helpful!😅

Thank you for this video. It was helpful as far as it goes. I have found that many brands just say "resin" and don't say casting, deep coat, UV, etc. I have made some pretty bad resin mistakes. One resin I bought must have been one of the ones you described as 5-minute resin though it didn't say so on the package. It called for being mixed twice. Mix A & B for so many minutes, then pour it into another cup and mix again. (Don't know why it needed another cup and a second mixing). When I mixed the 2nd time it got really hot and hardened before I could do anything with it. I'm a real newbie to resin and mostly use it to seal paintings. I've had one brand turn yellow, which was a shame since I had 2 paintings that went together. The white in one painting is great, the other using a different brand is slightly off white and actually doesn't look bad until you put them side by side. This happened during the worst of the pandemic and I was blindly ordering stuff on line and taking what was available. I have watched several of your videos and really enjoy them. Again, thank you for sharing.
@elizapi314
@elizapi314 2 года назад
nearly all 2 part resins call for mixing a second time in a new cup. The general purpose of this is to ensure you're not scraping out unmixed resin into your mold which would inhibit curing, most resin artists I've found (including myself) seem to prefer using just one cup, mixing it well and scraping the sides as you go. It's a bit of a risk, but I've only ever had issues the first time I add colorant to a 2 min pot time PU resin. For me, any resin with 5+ minutes of pot time can get a thorough mixing in one cup.
