Yea but everyone knows that’s the seat people sleep on or piss on, of course it can happen to any seat but that seat is 10x more likely 😂 i would only sit there if there was no other seats
Do they clean them at night when the trains aren’t running? Or do the trains run 24/7? I remember NY used to be referred to as the city that never sleeps
@@RLucas3000Yes transit do have cleaners for that, they are called " Car and equipment" however they only clean it when the train enter the last station on that route.
@@RLucas3000trains do run 24/7, but the frequency goes down. Individual cars will get a really quick sweep and possibly a partial mop when they get to the end of the line, and they'll get a more thorough clean when the train goes out of service, but if there isn't visible grime on the seat I wouldn't expect it to get wiped down.
@@IneffableHusbandsShipper that seats Deffinitley been pissed on 1000’s of times though😭😂 I’m not even from America never even been an I can smell that seat
I’m a New Yorker, and I sit there all the time once it’s available.. I know he saying this because that particular seat is very popular with smelly homeless bums. But I’ve seen bums sit/sleep on every single seat on the train at one point or another.
Native New Yorker here - that’s the best seat. Nobody will sit next to you if you sit right in the middle of it, put your bag next to you (holding onto it) and pretend to sleep!
My brother was headed to the city and took the subway. When he got off his stop and met up with his crew, he wondered why his pants wreaked of Funk. That's why he tosses his clothes in the wash after he gets home from every subway ride.
If you’re gonna tell me not to do something and leave without explanation, that makes me want to do it more. Booking a plane ticket to NY now just to sit on that seat.
New Yorker here, can confirm the top comments. If you’re in New York City, you can expect every surface to be dirty whether visible or not. Just deal with it and sit where you want as long as there isn’t piss, shit, or jizz on it
Who tf talks to people on the subway? Only crazy people and hustlers attempt to engage strangers in conversation on the subway, regular people mind their own business & avoid eye contact.
Has a new Yorker all my life. I can tell u this is the best seat in the house.. 1. You can rest your head on the glass if you're tired, and 2. Barely any1 around you to talk too.
To those who are wondering why, it is because homeless people usually sit/sleep on those seats. Homeless people also sit/sleep on other seats but not as much. Anyway, I have sat on those seats before, it does not bother me.
Native New Yorkers understand that seat is best for avoiding people. If you need to switch cars, or get to the door quickly, only one person can sit next to you. It's perfect. If you want to stay clean don't take the subway.
@@NGC-8931if you have open wounds on your legs, yes. But I guess cross-contact with your hands to your eyes, nose, or mouth could cause sickness too. I’ve been to NYC, and I just showered
Nah this is exactly what I was gonna say. Bc its a two seater and no one wants to sit next to only one person its awkward as fuck. So then anyone who sits there gets to sit alone and its great
I’ve lived in NYC my whole life and I’ve seen someone *relieve* themself multiple times into this corner, and your best bet is don’t sit at all, hold the poles for safety and thoroughly wash your hands when you get to you destination
For anyone who doesn’t know, that’s where homeless people tend to sleep. But as a NYer, I’ve sat there before, cause in the end of the day, the majority of NYC seats has had drunkards, homeless, weird ppl on it.
So many ppl here are wrong or misunderstanding the reasons. Yes its dirty but if you sit there you will get bedbugs that were left behind from the bums. Dirt IS everywhere. The bedbugs are usually on the corner seat tho.
@mikea6710 The real context about the video is the subway train seats usually have homeless sitting on there possibly peeing or vomiting or sherting which idk if that's a rare occurrence 0-0
As a born and raised new Yorker, don't listen to him. 😂 ik it sounds funny but honestly expect the WHOLE subway to be dirty nasty and filthy. From rats and bugs to full on people sleeping on these seats, they all have seen some crazy things. So just sit where ever, or stand
As a Chicagoan it’s the same with our trains. Every seat is dirty as hell just avoid the visibly nasty ones. I remember some dude brought a recliner with him to avoid sitting on any other seats 😂
Yeah, the CTA is nasty. The stations themselves are usually worse than the trains, though. Especially towards 95th on the red line (I'm not native so that's my only reference off the top of my head).
Yes, Chicagoan is a word. It's a title that showcases our unique vowels. Honestly it's far from the oddest. Just a few hours north we've got people calling themselves Michiganders like they're a bunch of geese. I've never seen someone with a recliner on the El that's wild! I've seen people sitting on buckets and luggage, and yesterday on the bus I saw a little old lady open up a large sheet of brown paper and carefully place it on her seat before sitting to protect her clothes.
I live in NYC and sit here when it’s available. At the end of day most of us have a home to go to where we can shower, change, and launder the clothes we wore out. Be grateful.
I’m always told to never sit in the corner seat. It wasn’t because it was dirty or whatever, but because it was close to the door. On the train I take, many people cart hop the carts, and you’re right next to the door. They always say that you’re the closest so something can happen to you or you can be targeted first if you sit there. I think they say this from experience, but I usually just sit somewhere else
I was watching this video and then my neighbour came and we watched it together. He said that this video changed his life and touched his heart. I then went and rented a projector in a big field and all my villagers watched it and it changed their lives too. We all are so grateful. Thank You for this video….
my childhood is telling me thats because my lucas from girl meets world will be sitting there and I will fall into his lap instead FHKSJDFHKSJ IM DELUSIONAL
If yall wonderin. All the homeless people like to chill in those seats, pickin their bare toes and all EDIT: I KNOW they also go in the other seats, but for a number of reasons such as what I've mentioned in the replies, they tend to "prefer" those seats in particular
@@shark_kisses5153 Its because they can keep their belongings next to them and take up the whole bench. If they tried that on one of the middle benches people could sneak up and take their stuff. This way their stuff is behind them and against a wall. Also because people dont need to walk past it to get to the doors, it is less likely they will have to move for people to get past or other things. That being said, they are still close too a door, so if they need to get away (for example, from "street cleaners") then they have a quick getaway
I am a kid and I sit there all the time the worst that ca. happen is someone pulls out a gun and shoots you but that happens everywhere in New York. Sit where you want.
Ppl in the comments saying not to sit here bc you could get your phone/bag snatched. Personally I keep a vice grip on my shit but I'm built different idk 🤷🏿
@@Viedrox Wait, lemme see if I understand. You're saying it's: I'm going to leave this unfinished, bc this is information people already have? If so, I didn't think this video could get even More pointless, but here we are.
Those are the best seats cause no one wants to sit close together so you get the whole row to yourself. Been living in NYC 15 years. Hands down the best.
Yea right everytime i sit in those seats someone eventually squeeze themselves next to me...i like my space so that shit sucks and i end up having to sit somewhere else
In Korea, those seats that is in the corner are priority seat for old or handicapped or pregnant people. That's why we don't sit there. But NY does have other reason 🤔
In DC it's the same thing once, some old couple shoved a Senior Smattrip card in my face, Told them if they just say please, I’d be glad to give it to them.😊
In NYC, it's common for dirty/smelly homeless or crazy people to sit in those seats. I've seen people peeing, using drugs, playing with their feet, being half naked, or humping the seats there. So this person is because saying "Don't sit there, because it's gross."
Those seats are also priority seats for old and disabled people, but tbh most (good) people will vacate their seat for them no matter where the seat is.
Hi, I'm Indonesian and I understand why you can't sit there; It's because usually the seats in the corners of every train car are usually for pregnant women, women with baby, disability, and elders. And that rule has been in effect until now, because formerly, most people don't care about other people, but only about being comfortable because they already have seat and will not allow anyone else to take them until they arrived. So, the purpose of this rule is to build a sense of care and priority. However, I don't know if anyone who violates it, whether they will be fined or not because I rarely take the train. (Sorry, if my english bad)
Enggak sih, alasannya lebih parah lagi, kalau dari apa yang komen2nya bilang, kursi spesifik itu biasanya dipakai buat kencing atau enggak buat tempat tidur orang tunawisma

In America its not a seat against the end wall that is reserved for a specific list of eligible people, its the ones closest to the doors whose seat back is against the long wall of the train.. The corner seats usually have been toilets for homeless or incontinent ir intoxicated persons... In NYC so many times businesses won't let you use a toilet even if you are a patronizing customer, if the health department requires the business to provide toilets they just put a sign on its door or lock it making you have to wait un line for the key, and if you have health problems or are about to lose control good luck.. people are not respectful in a public toilet in the United States.. if i see a dirty bathroom i say something especially if theres a extra person who could have been checking it, as a male i extremely hate having to stand in another mans urine and getting it all over my shoes (which transfers to carpeted floor mats) so between that and the odor showing the bathroom hasn't been sufficiently clean for a while are two if my pet peeves, and as a positive note, we have a convenience store chain here that has a plunger and a brush in a stand aside the back of the toilet so you don't have to embarrass yourself if you had a visit that didn't end up visually clean after you flushed. And yes i will speak to staff about a messy bathroom and if its routinely messy theres places to put it out on the internet such as Google Maps reviews.. I haven't looked yet but im sure someone probably has created a filthy restroom list by now.. after all someine has created lists for landlords and tradesmen who are shoddy at performance.
Plot twist : that's his favorite seat and he's trying to scare everyone not to sit there 🤣🤣 like bruh if you're riding public transport you KNOW it's dirty no one has to tell you
The homeless sit everywhere. They tend to select that seat for the same reason as everyone, to get some isolation. If your dainty you’ll have company, if your big or black, you’ve got your own VIP section. Just look b4 you sit. Real NYC peeps know which two seats to avoid…
Homeless people lay on the long ones/everywhere when they are empty/less crowded they just sit there when people are actually on it. Most of the time... I've seen them sit between people and let it flow... amongst other acts. Stand always, if you physically can that is.
I sit there, as a native New Yorker I strive to reach that seat before others, it’s the best! More comfortable, little more private, and less awkward because you don’t have to sit across from several people with nowhere to look, (you get to look into the other carts or out the window and door). Dirty stuff may happen there (just like the other seats) but I sanitize and wash my clothes whenever riding the subway. But for other people stay away from these seats 😂🙏🏾
For the people who dont know: Those windows sometimes swing open hitting you in the face so if you sit there better be wearing something that covers your face

It is priority seating for the disabled and elderly, but also as an aside, from personal observation homeless people nap in those seats because its out of the way from the rest of the train. Another aside, never enter an empty train car. If its empty, guess what? You’re not safe.
@@deadlock2579 If you are alone some POS is more likely to try and board the previously empty car (now occupied by you and them) to assault you, rob you, etc. In a crowd this is less likely, and someone is more likely to help you.
is it priority seating? have ridden the subway everyday for years and have yet to see a disabled or elderly sit there. usually they come into a full train and the courteous ones give up their seats for them
@@prettyrandomtaco477 the homeless don't care. They've played in the middle seats and peed themselves. Believe me, I know someone who works for the MTA. The stories I hear can make anyone puke. Also, taking the subway after 9 pm will show you that nothing is clean.
It's the only 2-person seat on the train. Compared to the much longer bench seats, a single person can 'hijack' this seat, the perfect seat location for subway riders who are sleeping off overdoses, or who urgently need to use the toilet.
In Japan that is the priority seat where old ppl, pregnant ladies/someone with a baby or ppl who cant walk properly or cant walk at all sit.But if you don’t see anyone around that’s like that u can sit there
@Langan exactly! The homeless here sit wherever they want. I guess that guy has never taken the train after 11 pm. The homeless can turn one car into their "home" hehe
For those of you who dont know, as a new yorker these seats are known as the hobo seat and typically will see homeless people sleeping on this seat. But then again you also see them sleeping on the regular seats so reguardless its just as dirty. I sit on that seat as well cause it literally doesn't matter
As a New Yorker lol bro they sleep everywhere there's migrants everywhere what are you talking about ? Homeless people don't just go to that seat I think they go to it so they don't have to deal with annoying people so really the cool homeless people are sitting in those seats and the assholes are just everywhere
Trust me you DO NOT want to sit in those seats. Those are practically dedicated for the homeless to make their house for the day. They literally shit, piss, eat, sleep on that 4 foot wide bench for the entire day. If you don’t listen, just take a nice whiff if you’re ever near one of those seats, it ALWAYS smells of fresh piss and the floors are always sticky underneath and in front of those seats. You can literally see the piss stains on the floor under the seat 😂
There's actually a very good reason as to why you shouldn't sit there. The seats closest to the doors are reserved for the handicapped, or permanently disabled. Of a guard does catch you sitting there, they will force you to move. I've been to New York, and used the subway. I've seen this happen with the homeless.
@@robbyzavarella3470 Then clearly you don't understand how this shit works. The seats positioned like that, closest to the door, are meant for the permanently disabled/handicapped, and they get priority over those seats. If you refuse to give up that seat to someone disabled, you will be kicked off the train by the guard. I have seen it happen time and time again when I was there.
@fireorc8410 u might be right that's technically their purpose. Never in my 100s of hours riding the subway have I seen that happen, i have literally easily spent 10x more time just on the subway than youve spent in the city in general, and im telling you this doesnt happen. Its just pointless to argue. Experience of living there > "I've visited before"
It's not for the disabled it's just a regular seat. There's no label like on the buses or bathrooms. It's just....a seat. Also what guards lol? The occasional police officer who basically never go on the subway? The only people I've ever seen them remove are homeless people bec liberals hate homeless people.
