Kind of interesting how yugioh conversation turned from “this format is too diverse and sucks” to “the format is tier zero you have to play something diverse to not get burnt out”. I think at the end of the day this begs the question of what yugioh players actually want out of the format and game as a whole.
different people have different opinions and value. Too diverse of a format is hard to prepare for for both casuals and tryhards, but casuals don't care nearly as much if they got caught offguard by a random deck that they need to read every single card and they take a L at a locals. On the other hand tryhards will probably know those cards better than casuals do but when you only have 15 side deck slots you ended up needing to make concessions and praying you don't hit your bad matchups. Even now when we are in a T0-0.5 format there are still about 50% decks that are not Snake Eyes that requires you to have a complete different siding patterns, and the more slots you dedicate to these non Snake-Eye decks (board breakers are better against most of these decks), the worse you are against the mirror (more HTs going second, floodgates going first), so even now in a not-so-diverse format side decking is already hard, imagine in a format where there are 5 different good decks that require completely different siding pattern, on top of needing to respect people playing floodgates. Lastly, this is a bit anecdotal, but I found the whole "t0 SE" a bit exaggerated at least at a local level. My locals is usually 5 rounds, sometimes 6, and i'd say there's about 30% SE at the most. This is probably at least partially due to its affordability, but there are usually way more VV and heck just as many stun players as SE, on top of all the other decks. So unless your locals is extremely competitive (like Regional+ levels of competitiveness), I'm a bit skeptical you're running into SE every single round.
Tier 0 formats suck. All running the same deck. Seeing the different decks compete and actually doing something is awesome. Is it annoying to side or prep for 5 different decks sure but at the same time people can run what they want.

I think this format really did it for most locals in South Florida. We barely have any yugioh players everyone either plays Pokemon or One Piece. I kinda dont like Pokemon/OP (i never really tried them, just not a fan of the art style) but i'll probably pick it up and learn. I went for Sunday locals and only 7 yugioh players showed up.... 7... we used to have 20+. Pokemon/OP locals are so packed now. I might just get into one of them, idk about one piece cause im behind on the anime and i dont really care about it like that. just sad to see the route yugioh is taking.
Returned to Yugioh when Infernoid released and STILL play it, so I too really enjoy playing Snake-Eyes Infernoid. It does feel refreshing when a tier 0 finally fits the playstyle you love and be rewarding 😊
Really appreciate this take, dude. I’ve been pretty bummed seeing my closest yugioh friend almost dropping the game this format (he was playing snake eyes and just not enjoying the gameplay) and folks at locals dropping the game for Pokémon. I’ve always played yugioh for fun, but I’m starting to enjoy the competitive side more now. And I think whether you’re a casual or a tryhard, flopping that role periodically is super healthy and helps keep the magic of this game alive!
Hey GGYGO, a deck I think you might like is fire king tri. It’s fun and doesn’t have a linear gameplan. Plus it’s always fun when you normal the level 1 and their face falls only for you to activate fraktall after and then they pog. The deck feels super good because even when you lose the other person is super into the deck.
I totally get that. Took a short 4 week yugioh breake after another bad regional finish in mid February. Been playing synchrons for almost 4 years now and I just wasn't finding the right build for fire format. Had two regionals in the last 2 weeks now and just messed around with boardbreakers over handtraps. Had a great time playing the list and almost made top 16 past Saturday (finished 17th). The breake really helped to get a new/fresh look on the game.
@@GG_YGO when I was playing lab I had karma cannon and arias cut. If you’re playing it as a dedicated trap build you want things like trap trick. If you’re playing it combo u want like bare minimum traps and max out pots.
if you don't like a format after trying it just take a break and do something else with your time. Don't really understand what's with all the whining on the interwebs as if that is going to do something besides wasting your own time and energy. I took a break when Kash was at full power and the best deck by a decent margin because I don't enjoy Kash and Kash also turned off decks I want to play.

You have already gotten plenty use of tour cards by now if you have played them yall try to act like you value you time and hobby yet never factor in the time played in the cost of the cards! I personally think fire is boring, but the annoying part of the format are the people playing DEGEN decks like stun and FTK like decks. Diversity is cool till its only toxic anit meta decks to counter tier0/1. And any shifter Deck falls in that category
Well, if Stun doing well can probably get some of the really really toxic stuff that goes under the radar because it isn't being played enough (Runic Fountain and floodgates) addressed I'm ok with a temporary suffering. I'm not hopeful of Shifters getting hit but really really hope that I am wrong. Even 1 fewer copy is something.
