@@karlos543 I have BBC News on in the background, but I don't like it as much since they culled the newsreaders I liked. BBC 1's certainly less appealing, all those dancing programmes and antique shows or something about cooking. I think everything's aimed at attracting the female viewer. I never watch any of those pay channels but II like Quest and TPTV.

When I see some of the weird and wonderful arts projects that receive government funding in the name of 'culture' and 'education' - surely the remaining Vulcans should be supported by the UK government!

Brings back many years when I was serving in the RNZAF back in the late 60s. I was volunteered to stand picket duty on one or under one when a Vulcan visited New Zealand. A wonderful umbrella. When the flight crew arrived in the morning I was given a guided tour around and inside her. During her stay at RNZAF base Ohakea she did a few sorties. Never forget the noise. You felt it in your ribs. But one RNZAF officer who could play the bagpipes went up to break the world record altitude for bag pipe playing. This he did play but sadly there was not a Guinness witness, was not recognised. When the Vulcan left the base it flew so low and noisy over our base. Wonderful.

I was a school kid at Spotswood College in New Plymouth when the Vulcan at low level went over our heads, an amazing sight in those days, pretty sure it was in 1971 though. Might have been 1972.

The British have way more than their share of Iconic, Effective and Wicked Looking Combat Aircraft. None more so than the Avro Vulcan. I built a model of one after I saw Thunderball. I want to see these planes Fly Again! Best Wishes From The Sunshine State!

Utterly superb video ,one of the best of recent times, in a ideal world get 426 and 558 to Elvington ,one of the longest runways in the UK imagine that , strength in unity both 426 and 558 together .

Great to see another Vulcan restaured (with XH558 that must be feelin' so alone...), i don't know the reason why, but i always feel "attracted" by this delta famed plane! I'm not at all a nostalgic of the "cold war" era, i'm just a nostalgic of all that jets which accompanied me while i grew up. Just hope to see XL426 to fly soon! A french aviation fan.

Go watch some documentary on the plane.. they said there's like zero chance. The main issue would be the time on the engines. I don't believe any of them have any usable flying time and the refurb cost was... I don't remember if it was technically possible really due to lack of parts and spares. But basically the cost is literally so high there's no realistic possibility.

I am ex RAF Scampton from 1967 to 69 (MEAS) and 1971 to 73 (230 OCU) as a Propulsion Fitter and remember XL426 well. Was it really 50 years ago? Happy and unhappy memories. Try doing an engine change or fuel tank change at 11pm in the middle of winter out on the flight line.

In the Summer of 1980 we were at my In law's cottage in the Tay Valley mid way between Killin and Aberfeldy about 3 miles East of Loch Tay, now it was common place to see aircraft any good flying day but this afternoon my son around 18months was in his pram outside when we heard the low rumble of an approaching aircraft, again not unusual. What was taking place was a Vulcan coming up Loch Tay at hedge hopping height then turned nearly 90 degrees to starboard and put the afterburners on to get over the hills. To say the house rattled was an understatement as things fell off the wall and my son was howling nearly as loud as the Vulcan as we were directly in the firing line, something not easily forgotten.

I regret to advise you that the Olympus engines in the Vulcan didn't have reheat. The ones in Concorde did however.

Never fly again as engneers who sign the airwortherness ticketts are all retied Concorde will never fly again because airbus contract to maintain it has ended no airline will pick up the tab 😢

That won't happen I'm affraid. None are certified to fly and the cost's involved with getting one air certified are in the millions. The RAF should take one back and have it apart of it's heritage flight

A Message to King Charles, You need to put one or more of these magnificent aircrafts back in the Air. you have a Hurricane, you have a Spitfire and you have the Lancaster all in the air. Do the people of the U.K. and the World a huge favour and fund one or more of these aircraft back in to the sky its a sign of English pride, when you See, Feel and Hear a Vulcan it makes you proud to be a part the The United Kingdom. My Dad worked on these. He spoke about a time when they had to keep them fully armed at the end of the runway, Running & ready to take off 24/7. 4 minute warning times during the Cold War. He rebuilt their engines & tested them. He preferred the Victor. Spent time in Near East Airforces base in Cyprus. I was born there during at that time. I think he was on the Lightning at that time.

This amazing military aircraft in 1982 attacked Port Stanley when it was occupied by fascist Argentina, my native country: It was a fight for freedom. Great video.

Having spent a lot of time at air displays over the years, I've been lucky enough to have seen a mock 4 ship scramble of Vulcans with a super low level break just after take off. When you see these big birds do a high angle turn on full power low to the ground, you can't fail to be impressed. Shame, it's now lost in time , like tears in the rain!

I have a certain affinity with the Vulcan. As a ten year old, I was playing AT THAT TIME that XM645 ploughed into the ground in Zabbar, Malta... My parents had taken me for a dental checkup, thus skipping school. My mates (not very school savvy) noticed the plane coming down and we scarpered. Part of the fuel tank fell into my grandma's yard, and I remember the carnage it had left behind... These days there is just a small plaque to remember the tragedy.

God she’s still so beautiful- I saw the last public flight of the Vulcan at Swansea air show and against the Swansea bay backdrop it was simply stunning and sounded incredible because the bay echoed its engines - I’ll never forget it 👍🏻👏🏻🍻🥃

Must be about 20 years ago, but visited the Vulcan at Norwich with my children. For a small fee we got to climb inside. The crew space in the middle was essentially a bare metal box. Only the active pilots got a view and a comfy seat! Amazing the engineering Britain could do in the olden days, and how long it lasted.

I remember growing up in Southend going to see this Vulcan. I was amazed at the size of it. I’m sure one year at the air show there was one of these do a fly past.

Wonderful video. I saw a Vulcan fly 40-44 years ago when I was a little kid. The flight was at Loring AFB in Limestone Maine. I remember it banking and seeing the unusual shape of it and the smoke trailing out of the exhaust. I also remember a Nimrod at the same airshow and do recall walking through it. I wish I had pictures.

You mention that you must go through the full 'pre flight' checklist, even though it is your intent to perform what you term "an abortive take-off". The proof of why this is essential is where the Handley Page Victor accidentally became airborne, when, of course, it was essential for all the flight controls to be functioning correctly in order to get the Victor safely back onto the ground. Just imagine if they'd been reckless and not bothered servicing that Victor's flight controls?!! Great video that actually shows us more of the pre-flight workings than your typical Vulcan in-flight videos. We can especially appreciate just how tiny in that Vulcan cockpit. Thanks for producing this.

I was proud to have been serving in the RAF as an airframe tech in the cold war when the mighty V bombers were in service. We were waiting to cross the runway at Waddington in an old RAF coach and they called QRA. (Quick Reaction Alert) so they stopped us at the threshold crossing. So the driver turned the engine off and we sat and watched as the crews ran out to FOUR Vulcans and scrambled aboard did a group start and all of them taxied out within a few minutes and lined up. How I wish in the 70's they had mobile phones as 16 MIGHTY OLYMPUS engines HOWLED and woke the neighbours up early as they all did steep climb outs into the sky! The coach SHOOK and we had our fingers in our ears but OH BOY we will never forget that. If only someone could had shot video of a QRA scramble that would be worth its weight in gold! That airport is a bit smaller than Waddington crikey she only just fits on the taxiway! The Cherokee could taxi UNDER the Vulcan LOL

I saw this beautiful aircraft parked at Southend Airport back in 2012 before boarding a flight to Amsterdam on easyjet. My Mum lived not far away in Prittlewell, so I walked to the airport. Sure looks impressive and nice to hear that famous howl.

This is so awesome they keep this going. I do understand why it's not possible to keep such a complicated plane like this certified to fly it's great they keep it at the highest level possible. One day it'll be silent.. but until then!

I remember as a kid going past Scampton and seeing seven or eight , at least , Vulcans taking off one after the other . That was probably late fifties early sixties .

About 1961 I learnt to glide with the RAF,as an air cadet. A field near Cranwell. The final day was drizzly and horrible, and we were told completing the course would be voluntary. I think we all wanted to complete our 3 solo circuits. Once up, in an open cockpit, the winch launch taking the glider up to a kind of cloud base, the most deafening racket started, reverberating in this horrible black wet sky. So scary, I expected lightning. On landing, (badly), they told us it was several V bombers taking off from I belive Scampton, - and I believe Vulcans.

This is an excellent video and really good to watch. I was a volunteer involved with the Victor at Bruntingthorpe for many years and miss these open days when the aircraft did their fast taxy runs down the runway to the crowd's delight. Alas, the Victor, Nimrod and Comet are sitting rotting in what is effectively a scrapyard whilst the airield is now full of cars. Just out of interest, who packs your chutes? We had the safety equippers from Coningsby come and show us how to pack the chutes. The Typhoon one is just a smaller version of the Victor/Vulcan one with a few little differences. The shackle on the Vulcan is different, but they are essentially the same chute.

Don’t live too far from Southend and have flown from this great little airport in the past. I have seen the plane but honestly thought it was static only, excited to see this is not the case. Now need to track this and hopefully visit should they do this again.

It is good to see her back to her original state, other Airworthiness. I remember seeing her in a pretty poor state sat out at the edge of Southend Airport. Great to see her able to move under her own steam. My Dad used to Work on Vulcans when he was at Scampton. not sure if she was one of the ones that he worked on the engines, as I don't know were to look for her Squadron History.

AS a lad i use to watch 6/7/8 Vulcans take off , From Scampton , Spridlington, the ground shook and the ears rang for a while after the Vulcan Howl.

I have seen the VULCAN flying and it is amazing aircraft also i have been inside the cockpit of 558 when i was a RAF cadet and it is a massive aircraft with a tiny cockpit shame they don't fly anymore

I used to watch them fly over us with their escorts in Peterlee ( north east ) during the late 60's and 70's and was off school when one plane went down in Wingate due to engine failure. The pilots landed on the A19 roundabout, they were heading out to sea but turned it around and controlled the crash into an open area of farmers fields, presumably as it was not armed those higher up decided to have it crash on land so the cause of the engine failure could be found.

If only they would be allowed to take of and do a circuit of the airfield before landing, When I lived in England I used to live to go and watch aircraft taking off and landing, and more often than not the landings were more impressive than the take offs.

I remember as a teenager in Yorkshire the v bombers would pass over our farm night and day. The Vulcan had an unusual howl, I loved to hear that sound it made people feel safer from the ussr. I love the Vulcan it’s a terrible shame that the raf don’t keep at least keep two flying. That howl is the sound of freedom.

That was excellent but for those of us watching on YT there wasn't much difference in the audio levels between the narrator and the cockpit audio. Very hard to understand either the narrator or the cockpit crew.

After XH558 last flew, they said no Vulcan will ever fly again due to the huge complexity, huge costs, lack of spares, old age, and difficulty meeting regulations. On one of XH558’s last flights the front undercarriage jammed at 45 degrees, the pilot remedied it by “jiggling the plane”. If it had stayed jammed, they would have had to bail and ditch the plane. It was a warning to say “don’t play with exotic engineering when it’s old”.

yes and seeing this is silly really, she ain't allowed to take off so why bother, you'd need to be multi millionaire to get one of these flying again.

Money can solve most things, but Airbus as the 'technical' authority withdrew their support a few years ago now when 558 flew for the last time.

i saw it often but especially at St Athan, they used to take off three at a time, huge runway...... i was only 15, i was in the RAF cadets. @@dougle03

It ran out of airframe hours a long time ago, equally there is no willing technical authority to back them, the last was Airbus but they withdrew support some years ago when 558 was grounded...

@@Rasscasse It means that the structural airframe has a regime of maintenance periodicity, and it's measured in flying hours. When it was sold it was coming up due a major inspection (Think strip the aircraft down, look at everything structural, replace whats needed, then rebuild and certify). This inspection and any remedial actions completed is the only way to legally extend the flying hours of the aircraft. Equally, an aircraft must have a supervisory authority organisation that can witness the inspections and sign off on any repairs. For the Vulcan this was Airbus in the later years, and they withdrew their support quite some time ago citing lack of knowledge retention (People retire). Without a valid technical authority the operators won't be able to get insurance for flight and won't be able to prove to the CAA that the aircraft is airworthy, thus it will remain on the ground without certification for flight.

⁠A plane has a record of flight hours, the frame of the plane takes a lot of stress from flying and so they are assigned a maximum amount of hours allowed for flight. Once it has reached the maximum, then it has to be taken out of service.
