A free press began its serious and precipitous decline during the Reagan administration. Today, with fans of war and the warmongers and weapons’ manufacturers, freedom for both journalists and readers is a relic of the past. During the wars in Central America of the 1980s, the editor of the opinion section of a paper many of us expressed our thoughts in, said that he was going to shut down both critical and left voices on the opinion pages. That was it. A whole group of us were silenced.

This is true , if the city does something that causes damage its on them to fix it ,And being toxic ? Taps would need replacing and basically replumbing the entire house.And its not from the curb either ,depending the policy of the city's, it's around 10 feet from the curb they own .

@@StatusCoup while i'm on the side of flint citizens and scn here, those are two separate issues with no explicit causality. waterlines wear out regardless of the quality of the water. i replaced my water lines 20 years ago at my expense, and i live in a community that, including myself, relies on drinking and cooking w bottled water. back to flint's situation, i doubt the municipality will ever have the funds and logistic wherewithal to even consider replacing resident waterlines, so don't hold your breath here.

@@brianjacob8728 These are not two separate issues. There was untreated, HIGHLY corrosive river water flowing through all of the city's pipes (including interior home plumbing) for 18 months. The damage was irreversible and in cases where the pipes have been opened up--the insides are severely corroded (I've seen it up close). It is not on residents or homeowners to replace those pipes--it is on the state that destroyed the pipes/poisoned them (and the federal government to step in and replace if needed). This is not normal wear and tear...it was the acute destruction of these pipes (in which lead and other heavy metals/bacteria is still peeling off into the water) -Jordan

Ive had this kinda pipe problem in new mexico. There was clean water that came into the trailer but by the time it got to the back shower it wasclike Amityville horror shit coming outvof the pipes. Left it on for a week an it would just gurgle then finally after a week it spat out mud for a week. There was no where in the trailer that got clean water but the water that went into the trailer was clean.
