I told that to my gay, Pro palestine cousin. His response was "I'm not gonna go to another country and break their rules..?" I said "So in other words you would have to hide who you are to avoid punishment or death, and if you lived out there you would be oppressed." He responded "I KNOW I can go to a middle eastern country and be just fine." I said "Maybe, if you act butch. I love you, but you are *very* flamboyant, it can be seen from an airplane." He kept running into the same wall and even insinuated I was being racist or bigoted, insinuated I was being irrationally afraid or unreasonable. I called him out on it immediately, and he walked it back. We kept going in circles and he kept repeating Israel= evil Palestine= good, and towards the end I found out he *didn't even know* what Hamas is, he thought it was a PERSON 😂 Even after informing him, he *still* kept putting up a fight and threw a snarky "but yeah, FREE PALESTINE." The cognitive dissonance and denial blew my mind, I changed the topic because it was like talking to a brick wall. Annoying but interesting from a psychological perspective
