That was wonderful. It's really impressive to be able to play with both bows at once. Thank you, for sharing with us. It was beautiful. 🎄🕯️🦌 God bless.
Wow! I really like the three bows. What an amazing instrument. Do you have to tune it? Like a violin? And also does your back get a little sore leaning over the instrument?
@@glorisyoung9696 No, not like a violin which is tuned in 5ths. In this instrument, each string is tuned to a note of the scale, similar to a piano. I'd have to watch more closely to see if this one is tuned to a chromatic scale (the white & black notes on piano), or a diatonic scale (just the white notes). I know that this song can be played in a diatonic scale. But she also could be tuning the strings to match a tune (music boxes are like that, just the notes needed for the song).
Wow! Amazing 3 bow playing. I played the violin when I was in elementary many years ago, but never heard or saw this instrument before. Thank You. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
Wow! You certainly know how to bring out the beautiful voice of this instrument! I am so impressed and delighted by your ability to play each instrument so skillfully! The rendition with THREE BOWS just blew me away! You are an amazing lady! Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world!
Wow. What an instrument! Such an unusual sound -- unearthly, heavenly, ethereal. You are very talented.I wonder how many have survived. Merry Christmas to you too!
What an amazingly talented little lady you are, to be able to play all these very unusual instruments, and so beautifully! I love learning new things, keeps the mind sharp! I love how you not only play the instruments, but know the history behind them! Thank you, Dee Dee, for sharing, and Merry Christmas to you, too! 🎄🌟🎁🥰🙏
Wouldn’t call her a “little lady”, I think she’s a very skilled musician. I agree with you though, learning new things keeps us sharp and I love the history tidbits too ☺️
Thank you for sharing the history of the instrument you're playing. When you played using the cords, I could visualize it being played in someone's home versus when you used the bows, I could imagine it being played in a church. Thank you so much.
This instrument is really more like a bowed psaltry combined with a harpeleik. I have my grandmother's "Norwegian Zither Harp" made in 1926, awhich is actually a German instrument, a harpeleik, that has 64 strings arranged in chords. I loved hearing my grandmother play that lovely sounding instrument! You are making gorgeous music on your "Ukelin" DeeDee! Thanks so much for sharing!
Love the mashup of both versions. The instrument is like something from Star Trek. And like most instruments from Star Trek (Vulcan harp, anyone?) it's awesome.
It's wonderful that you're keeping these old instruments alive by playing them, and so well. The hurdy gurdy sounds similar to the bagpipes, with the drone and the continuous playing. Thanks for sharing ☺️
I’m so glad I came across your channel. These instruments I never heard of or seen before, you play them so beautifully. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and talent on these:)
What a beautiful sound! I'm thinking that some inventive woodworker could come up with foot pedals so you could play chords while using your three bows. Just a thought. Thank you for showing us this wonderful instrument and playing it for us!
Ms. Dee Dee.. Your A Treasure ! So Talented. You bring forth in your music the Joy, the World longs to feel..and until our Lord Comes Back.. Our LORD "JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON." Shalom God Bless
Having now watched several videos featuring a wide range of stringed instruments, I couldn't help wondering about replacing strings or even full restringing when these aren't exactly commonly-found instruments today, let along string sets. 12 strings can be a challenge, but some of the challenges these instruments would pose must be mind-boggling. Thanks for so many fascinating uploads.
Wow! God bless you and your family! You have an incredible gift and a profound love for your music. Your collection of instruments, and the care and skill with which you play them is really something special-I can only hope to be a fraction as cool as you are when I'm someday your age. I came for the dulcimer, but most importantly, I stayed for your infectious joy. Merry Christmas!
OMG! I had a Ukelin from 1967 till 2018 (when I downsized and moved.) When I was in high school, my music teacher gave me one he found in his attic in Connecticut. I never learned to play it - I was afraid that tuning the strings might break it, so I hung it on my wall as a decoration. It had the little wire music rack, and was in a dusty cardboard box.
That’s crazy! My first one was given to me by someone who had JUST cleaned out their Grandma’s attic! I had NO idea how to play it, but the note letters were under the strings, so I tuned it and fell in love with the violin sound, and the two-handed challenge!
Thank You for such a refreshing rendition of Christmas songs. I am getting into the Chritmas Spirit thanks to your instruments. It is also nice to hear how those instruments came to be. I can't wait to see what other instruments you play. Thak You. ❤
It's not often remembered that there are two versions but it's nice that you remember. I also never had heard of a ukelin until this video but it's interesting
@@rachelwickart275 My friends and I recorded all three melodies on a CD and for the last verse recorded two melodies played together... done on dulcimers. Great fun!
@@elliehjemmet Sounds wonderful! Were they hammered dulcimers or the mountain-type? I play around with an Appalachian type that was handcrafted by a friend in Michigan, and have often thought about borrowing my daughter's violin bow to "see" what comes of it...
It's amazing to think those used to be sold door to door, I've been looking for one recently but haven't been able to find one. You have a position I envy with all those instruments. All in all, absolutely well done, I love your content so much!
Love the variety of vintage instruments you're demonstrating for us! Besides the pleasure of the music, I also really appreciate the information you give us. Thank you! And a merry Christmas to you, too. :-)
As someone who is solely relying on being self-taught to play the bass (small town), I appreciate that there's other instruments that can be played by numbers as I'm learning from tabs lol
I have to say that I have never heard of such an instrument! VERY interesting!! Thank you for posting this along with the information about it. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
