It makes sense that the medium and large sizes don't have a charger because you will check them... If the purpose of the charger is to get you connected while waiting for your flight, you won't have the two bigger sizes with you... Great review!! I was considering buying this luggage and know I'll definitely buy !

Great review! Thanks so much for comparing all their luggage pieces. I've been eyeing the Medium sized checked bag for my upcoming trip to Italy. I feel like it would be more practical than the large size because I want to work on not overpacking ha!

Awesome video , I think it looks awesome. I do agree it’s priced expensive , but I love the look of it. The external battery is cool , I carry my own personal external one though. I also commute 10hrs to Alaska lol . There are a lot cheaper options online out there , but I still love the design of these. The black on black is pretty sweet . I’m going to pick up the medium.

Hey Maggie. Just wanted to say thanks for the review on this product! Even though it was for the Carry On you have convinced to buy the Large Size. Just so you know i am from Australia and have a keen interest in all things related to travel. I am actually coming to America for a month next January so will be using this as my main bag now :) Also great job on the filming of this and other videos. Im a professional videographer here in Australia and run a business related to it and for someone who it seems is just starting out you are doing an awesome job. Really engaging. I don't think so, unfortunately. Here's a quote from their site about shipping locations: "We currently ship everywhere in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Canada, the UK, Germany, Sweden, and Australia. In the US, are you allowed to check bags with batteries in them? Asia (I live in Korea), you're not allowed. I kinda assumed the US would always be be more strict on this. In Asia I don't think you'd ever be allowed to check this bag. They usually make you wait a few minutes after checking a bag for it to pass through the screener. I usually carry on, but sometimes you end up with liquid (or example my Taiwan customer gave me a gift, chili sauce, no choice but to check it). On the surface, I've always liked this idea of the battery pack in the roller luggage, but when I really think about it, I can't see why it's all that convenient. I take an avg of 2-3 business trips per month. Half of my trips are relatively short (2 - 3.5 hours). The other half a bit longer (5 -7 hours). But I can't imagine a scenario where using the luggage as a charging station would be all that helpful. I usually carry two 10000 mah XiaoMi batteries with me on a trip. If I'm carrying on, I throw one in my rolling luggage and one in my briefcase. So I don't get why my having it in the luggage helps. Because then you don't have to add extra weight to your briefcase? But usually my briefcase is sitting on top of my spinner luggage anyway as I'm moving through the airport. If I need to charge my phone, I just hook it up to the battery pack and throw it in my bag... then I'm not tethered to the luggage. But I would say 95% of the time, when I'm on the go, the place where I need the extra juice is when I'm on the plane. So having the luggage in the overhead doesn't really help in that situation.

Here's what the AWAY luggage site says about checking the luggage with a battery in the US and in Asia: Yes! Your suitcase battery is in compliance with FAA, TSA, and DOT regulations and meets US/DOT 38.3 requirements. It is allowed in the cabin and can be carried onto any flight. There are two times it will be helpful to take out the battery and keep it with you in the cabin - First, when you are checking your bag you will be required to remove the battery -- just use the included screwdriver to slip it out. Second, if you're flying out of Asia, we recommend removing the battery before you go through security (they're sticklers there); you can replace it once you're through. I find the battery to be really convenient and prevents me from packing require anything extra, like the external batteries that weigh down my purse. I also don't have to worry about finding an outlet in the airport when I don't want to pack an extra battery pack. It's true you can't charge when you're on the plane, but since I'm more of a reader than a music-listener or movie watcher on planes, I don't find it to be a problem. It's all about preference and what is best for your traveling style! While the battery is cool, the capacity and design of this suitcase are its major selling points to me.

This or That yeah that all makes sense if it fits your traveling style it might work. I'm a bag addict and considered getting the Away. Now I'm sticking with my Muji carry-on and external battery pack.

This or That also while I believe that the battery might be compliant with all the regulations I imagine it being a total hassle trying to explain that to a Beijing security agent who doesn't know what I'm talking about and ultimately I have to get out my screwdriver and remove the battery. I do like the design but I think it's not really that great of a deal for what it is. I think the best bag out there of that style is the Muji which has locking wheels ($120 on the u.s. Muji website right now). obviously it's not a fair comparison because I haven't seen the away bag in person and don't have any way to truly compare how much better the wheels are....well, actually the lifetime warranty does matter a lot. nevermind... I take it all back haha. (then again, we can't really be sure this company will still be around 10 years from now, not that any luggage lasts that long, but still)

haha that's a good point! A lifetime warranty lasts only as long as the company. I hadn't really thought of that. I sure do hope they stick around, because they have me hooked! I need to check out this Muji bag. Is it an online only retailer, or are they carried in traditional luggage stores?

Oh and I forgot to mention! I rarely travel to Asia which is why I feel like AWAY works well for me, but I can totally understand it being a hassle if you do, since the battery is located below the clothes after it's fully packed. You'd have to unpack to remove the battery if you forgot to do so before security. Womp womp.

Their customer service is awesome! I emailed them asking if the mini set was still available. Brittany explained that it was only around for the holidays but offered to send me one of the few that were still hanging out in the office. For that alone I'll be loyal Customer.
