Caleb, were you thinking about a front skid plate to protect the headers? The extra weight would also help settle the front down more...? Just throwing that out there. Glad to see it coming along. I do believe clear headlight bezels would be better for the Ralyata. Looks real good and I hope you can diagnose what is rattling around in the back. Hopefully something just needs a better bushing mount. Best wishes to everyone there and Peace out brother!
Im pretty sure in the past he said he couldn't do a skid plate because on the headers. I also think he mentioned he planned to do his own custom headers at some point.
I remember hearing that Mazda wanted to have the lights where the indicators are but light technology wasn't good enough at the time so they had to use pop ups. Technically you are making it look like the designers wanted!
Hey Caleb, fair warning here, because I know you havent looked at my emails. I'm planning to drop by your shop for maybe 10-20 mins max on June 11th (provided you're not gone at an event of some kind), as I'm driving from Nebraska to Vermont and its not very far out of the way, but I have to make Cleveland that night. You can check out my tuned Saab while I'm there if you want, but I swear I have a reason to drop by you're gonna like. I've noticed you go to Advance Auto quite often; and just like I hooked you up with that graphics card a while back, I'm gonna hook you up with 20% off every time you go to Advance. See you then. -Zavier
I think you're underestimating the lateral forces on those lower control arms. Especially in rallycross/offroad when going through bumps the wheel has to ride up/against the hole. I think those arms should - at the very least - have a triangulating cross bar in them. For the suspension, i think you need a dual spring or progressive spring setup.
What do you think of replacing the pop up lights with semi-recessed light pods? Or...delete the pop ups entirely, and make the hood a clean square, and mount your lighting inside the bumper...
mounting point for... . If you are talking about the mounting point for the strut in the front suspetion that would be nearly impossible becouse it's part of the upright and it's cast iron and that is really dificult to weld
I'm glad that you put the turn signals back in their location. I think you should get rid of the circle pattern. It doesn't go with stock headlights as well as it did with the double rounds.
The blinker HEADLIGHTS look cool but i would recomend You put a Little bulb in between the screw hole and the HEADLIGHTS as the parking light. Just an idea.
take the circles off the lights. I think that would look better and give you better lighting. Also, make this thing legit long travel suspension some day!!!!
Get rid of the circles for sure. Definitely make it clear, or slight black tint. I was gonna say I wanted yellow but I remembered, the turn signals are in the same housing
You could cut the spring perch off the old struts and either relocate them to a more suited height, or get weld-on adjustable perches. I believe you may be able to remove the damper insert from the strut, so you could still use the adjustable dampers in the old struts.
Ya know G, there was a time when I really worried if a one man show like yours was going to be able to keep going. You have come so far your projects and editing are perfect. 👍👍👍. You can be very proud..
On the future you should go for an water to air intercooler setup and get rid of the scoop which would improve the visibility even more and it would be able to cool the IATs more on a low speed rallycross
This thing deserves a legit suspension setup that’s designed to work well together. You should look into having a set of bilsteins or konis custom valved for your spring rates, car’s weight, etc. I guarantee there’s a rally cross guru in the Miata or Subaru communities that would be able to make you a baller setup for a reasonable price. The track Miata guys swear by diy bilsteins. Or if you really want to go baller have King suspension engineer a custom setup for you.
You should build your own power coating oven for smaller parts or bigger. That way you can do one more thing your self. Learn to powder coat and ceramic coat. Building it your self you can build it to fit some where in the shop that works.
This thing is one of my favorite builds ever...to think that this all started with spray-tinting the tail lights of a focus. On the topic of the spring; I'd give it some time to settle and work it's way in. I think it'll end up where you want it to be. Well done! Also thoroughly enjoyed the launch control take off in the seat intro.
Caleb... you taught yourself so many new things within the past years. Why don't you get your own power coating set up and learn that? I've seen another RU-vidr do it at his house and a cheap oven.
i know alot of people are saying to get rid of the headlight circles now that you have a light bar instead of globes, but i gotta say the circles make the car look rugged and 'offroad-y' and match the overhead lights. i do hope you leave it for 'offroad-y' aesthetics :D Also a front skid plate is very much needed sir
Dude, you could totally just build your own powdercoat set up.... you just need a sandblaster, an oven and a small powdercoat gun. I powdercoat a bunch of stuff. Its pretty fun honestly. Plus you never really do anything big. So you wouldn't need a big set up
the only thing i can say is bc racing coil overs you could check them out i know there not cheap but they should be able to get what you want of of the front shocks and springs
I love your idea for headlights. I really can't wait for another video. I am so pumped on what's coming in next videos. PS. I think that to really complete rally miata you could add rear bash bar or something.
Still say you need to re-christen the rally Miata to the MAZ-DA-RU. Also, thank you for ditching the the “pop up” headlights. It’s going to look way better with a clean hood.
You should try Cerakoting your suspension parts, it has the best protection against Salt. and it looks sick. I bought me a Quart for about $75-100 and it goes along way.
I would keep them like that cause those circles on the lights is probably one of the few things left of the original rally Miata, considering it was there before it was even plastidipped green
You could build air intakes into the old headlight spaces, and even use the old headlight covers on them... I'm imagining something like the old Air Grabber pop-up scoops on old Dodge muscle cars, only weirder :P
Not sure you’re going to get enough, properly focused lighting out of those small light bars, especially behind the blinker lens and the black circle thingamabobs. I get you might get some more lighting, lower on the front, later on but hopefully you can get enough with what you have right now. At least you are *road-legal* with headlights and blinkers. I still think you’ll need to gusset the control arms to strengthen and prevent deflection. As for the red on the struts...you could always paint them or use that black bed-lining stuff on them to color-match with the rears. Everything looks cool though!
I would advise against putting the headlights and the blinkers in the same housing, if one is brighter than the other it would minimize the visibility of the dimmer light
might be time to throw some coils up front. will be totally dialed and worth the time/ money to fab it up. love the videos man been watching since the early forza days haha
You might want to consider a pretty stout bar/skid around that exhaust. But I like it better without the pop-ups. I had a l-88 type hood scoop on my v8 Z-car, couldn't see shit on that either. Good luck on it , its looking really good.
That noise in the back, it's probably some metal rubbing, here in brazil our cars doesn't have a strong body and after awhile it starts to make that noise in the back, normally the trunk :)
"I hate to end it there" - after 24 minutes, lol If those are your headlights now, I'd recommend getting rid of the black paint on them. You need a skid plate, or 1 rock will ruin your entire build. And, if you can weld some brackets holding your headlight covers to your hood, I think that would look best.
When are you going to get rid of the winter tires? The compound is surely hindering the car more than helping it with the temperatures what they are now.
I mean a simple fix would be cut a quarter to half a coil off the front coils. It's one way to lower coil springs when you are on a budget, or they don't have the exact length you want.
seeing this is making me want to revive my mud bogger WRX. everyone making progress on their cars while mine sits sad in the corner with a blown headgasket
please paint the red it clashes with the blue white and black theme. is they were black it would look much better but still have that hint of yellow poking through. just an idea keep up the good work brother❤️
Run that setup on my RallyCross car. But I went with the std height springs. I don’t have issues bottoming out the car. But the rally Miata needs the lift for sure.
I would tint the signal housings just bc those lights are so bright but it honestly looks good just the way it is. But I love that idea with the light bar as a turn signal. I may have to steal your idea and use it on my square body chevy haha
test the car once its ready and if your not feeling the springs then go for the rally coilovers and also the wheels look really big to be rallycross ish😂 the thing turned out so sick though
