Another whopper of a video, packed with ideas on how to assemble a number of price-based collection chock full of great watches. I like them all, to be honest. That AliExpress combo offers ridiculous value, and look at the number of well respected and trendy watches that are available for $1000! No need to spend big to have fun in this hobby. Cheers, Jody

The huge success of the Orient Kamasu is in no small parts due to its sapphire crystal. Similarly the hype around the Tissot PRX would be hard to imagine if it had mineral crystal only. Then why didn't Casio take advantage of the opportunity and upgraded the crystals on the new EFV 140 "Aqua Terras" to sapphire and charge $ 20 more? That watch would be one of the biggest sellers in the watch market.

It's not like they can't do it. Casio has a bunch of "fancy" edifice models at around $100-140 with sapphire + solar.

It’s he just the wholesale cost though….the end cost of the Watch gets a markup by distributors, then ADs, so if retail is 3x cost that $20 part adds $60.

Pumped to see the Armitron Griffy appear on here. I bought one for fun/casual wear and it's a gem. The stainless case is solid and comfortable, the bracelet's surprisingly decent, and it's gotten a lot more wear than I would have expected. Great purchase, and has me seriously reconsidering my opinion of Armitron.

Your Casio collection is pretty good. Here's my combo: 1) GW-B5600 - every day carry, daily beater, working, diving, sports watch for around $150 2) MQ24-7B2 - every day carry, dressy, business watch for less than $20 (if it's good for the Pope, it's good for everyone)

Wearing it among people who wear $1k+ watches, can only be a sign of confidence and intelligence, because you don't give a crap about their bling and you know your $20 Casio is good enough. Tho, it's not that the watch isn't pretty and elegant, but rather the opposite. It suits any suit.

Great choices at all levels. I know that you don’t get the atomic signal down under, but I don’t think I could mentally live without one Multi Band 6 watch in my collection. A guy could easily substitute one at each price level and keep the collection very similar.

I pretty much agree with you on this selection. However I would swop the Orient Star Diver for a Glycine Combat Sub.

The OS Diver is a more refined watch than the Glycine in terms of finishing imo. Also, the lume is superior. I think the former is a more suitable recommendation. That said, if you prefer the Glycine then great!

The Glycine is a very nice watch, had it for a while and gave it to my brother for his birthday as he kept looking at it with hungry eyes. Lol. I have the Orient Mako XL, not a new watch, still sell them but not sure if they're still making them, lume isn't great on it, but I love the watch, and also a Kamasu which has great lume. Unfortunately the Glycine had even weaker lume than my Mako. It's all a matter of taste of course, so on balance I would stick with the Orient. A diver should have great lume and there are too many divers with bad or mediocre lume, the Doxa is absolutely awful, for example, and that's a quite famous piece, even the homages have better lume.

I have both the Glycine Combat Sub and the Orient Star Diver. Both will be in my collection till the end. At first glance, the Glycine doesn’t seem to have good enough lume since it is not applied to large areas. But I have found that it is surprisingly effective and long lasting. The lume on my Orients is the best of all my watches. My usual overnight watch is one of my Orient Triton/Neptunes, which have the same amount and quality of lume as my Orient Star, but with more easily differentiated indices. For everyday wearing, the Glycine has the benefit of being lighter and thinner than the Orient Star.

My current 5-watch collection is still well within the under-500 category, with room for upgrades, particularly in one department: Daily: Timex Weekender*, $27 Dive: Seiko SKX013, $175 (at time of purchase) Beater: Casio DW-290, $32 Chrono: Seiko SBTR027, $110 Bonus: Casio CA-506 calculator, $24 Total: $368 * I think I've outgrown the Weekender as a daily and relegate it to be worn on the weekend as the name suggests. Considering some Seiko JDM quartz pieces or the Casio "Aqua Terras", but I'll wait for Jody's review of the striped dial ones.

I can't recommend enough the Casio 'AQ' . I went for the smaller versionn. The only things I'd change on it I've got on an Oceanus titanium.If your budget can stretch to this it may be a choice for you. The ony issue is the integrated bracelet ( only on 1 model) - so it's a great fit for summer & a bit loose in winter until (if) the heating is on.

To be honest, Seiko quartz pieces are still much unknown territory. Many people are religated to Seiko 5 autos and not the quartz

I put together an almost 1000 dollar collection over the past year. Used Seiko King Turtle (400), discounted Tissot PRX-80 (500), and a GM2100 G-shock metal Casioak (200).

Some Great choices here Jody. I'd pick the Seagull, the Casioak, the Steeldive and the Tissot. I know I'm over Budget and only picked four but I'd also cover most situations with the 4.

For around a 250$ collection I would also suggest: - Seiko SUR307 or 309 series.. 40mm, lumed, sapphire.. great GADA and office watch. Can be found around 100$ - Orient Ray 2.. great diver.. awesome lume. Submariner hommage but also it's own design. Weekend watch -Casio digital like W800. Good beater, good for casual wear and also sports.

I finally did it. After breaking the glass in my Duro (awaiting sapphire replacement glass) I saw the Casioak and ran out to get one. Chose the stealth. Damn it looks great. Now I need to go to the Tutorial so I can operate it😂

Another great Seiko Quartz-Chrono for around 100$ is the SNDC89P2 - I own one and I'm super happy with its for years. The coloured-details are great and - well, the strap isn't the best (but with matching stitching) - works great on all different types of replacement straps.

Lots of thought into these collections & really was sentimental remembering watching most of these in past vids as well :) that 1st collection features a bonus digital watch that you said nothing looks quite like it. It’s really quite a lot like a Garmin instinct! Not to correct you at all, but for the review upcoming for your red one, it might be neat to mention the differences between the two & how much functionality they bring down to that price. i'm kind of a minimalist person, so maximum 2 watches collection at the same time. Currently own a max bill junghans and orient star classic (sucker for bauhaus, thin case, and minimalist model), yes they are not a beater due to their water resistance.. but im a web developer, so most of my time is spend behind the desk :)

Some great suggestions for a 5 watch collection. For the Casio beater I’d also recommend the AE-1500WH. I picked mine up for $28 AUD. 100m WR and 10 yr battery life. For a really cheap “diver” you also can’t go past the Casio MRW-200H.
