I loved playing the Punisher arcade years ago which I'm glad that is being re-released soon as part of Marvel vs. Capcom fighting arcade classics soon!
I liked the PS2 punisher. When you sneak into a mob funeral in the coffin then pop up during speeches to gun down attendees 😮 that game was awesome 😂👍😎
Other than Dave and Busters as well as Chuck E. Cheese, arcades pretty much were no longer around in this area while I was growing up. So many of the arcade games I've played have been from MAME. So really it's mostly either videos like this recommending titles, or scrolling through MAME's menu until I see something that stands out to check out. With that said, I've tried The Simpsons and the Alien VS Predator games, but none of the other ones. They do sound interesting though, so I'll be willing to check them out when I can. Also, think you pretty much covered all the beat em up games I could think of off the top of my head I've tried on MAME. Sailor Moon still stands as a personal fav, but that may also be because of how much of a fan of the anime I am. Anyways, thank you for these recommended games to check out.
I was so pleasantly surprised by Hook, wasn't even aware there was an arcade game until I stumbled across the ROM, should've gotten a port to consoles instead of the so-so platformer.
Excellent video Jim. This is the genre that i grew up with and the one that speaks to me the most. So many great beat em ups out there for sure. One I'd recommend you check out is Gaia Crusaders.
Ninja Baseball Bat Man is probably one of the most frantic and imaginative beat em up out there. Its can be hard but its a fun and wild ride of a game. I think one game that recently people have been getting attention to is Undercover Cops. I remember playing it at the arcades in the mid 90s. I love the graphics, the 3 characters and the music. Of course the gameplay and the game design is amazing. It may not be a classic but definitely one of the best that often gets overlooked.
Some excellent selections! although I have to tell the night slashers story, my wife saw me playing the switch release and was not long before she said 'I wanna play that!' so we've done a few co-op runs since teaming up to stomp on some undead zombie skulls! I did get to check out the Steam demo of the upcoming remake... it's definitely interesting and if it lands on console I'll probably pick it up!!
YESS!!! This is the game that made my childhood!!! I remember I had to go to the doctors (to usually get checked up on or do surgery on!) Thing is the doctors was like 300 miles ahead of our home! So we usually get a hotel to do all of the doctors (but before that!) We would usually go to some shopping malls there (has a cool ice rink BTW!) Have some donuts at crispy Kream! And go to Chuck E. Cheese to play the simpsons arcade game! I was sad that the machine is gone but thanks to parodius and owning a arcade (virtua) stick And of course some pizza and some Coca Cola drinks (do you have a favorite one?) I feel like a kid again! Awsome video as always!
Well, I don't really drink soda anymore, but I was a fan of Mountain Dew, I'll occasionally have a Coke at the movies or something. I also played most of my arcade games at the mall, the bowling alley, and the skating rink.
Great list as usual!!! Gonna have to play some of these after I get out of work, unfortunately Night Slashers was delisted, I'm guessing due to the upcoming remaster, glad I got it when I did, Captain America and the Avengers has a special place in my hearth
I totally agree about the Simpsons. The art and sound do a great job of recreating early teevee episodes. And we even get Life in Hell cameos! But the actually gameplay kinda sucks.
I owned Ninja Baseball Bat man on PCB for a short while. I never really got into beat em ups in the arcade, preferring platformers and shooters. I also owned Cannon Dancer brand new straight from the factory, that was hard as nails as hard as nails get. One game from the arcade I have that nobody talks about is Spinmaster, I like it. Granted none of the games I mentioned are beat emups. But as I don't play beat em ups in the arcades I stick to what I like.
Had the AVP board up until a cpl of years ago when I sold most of my pcbs. Vendetta went too, a great beat-em-up imo but i did keep Denjin Makai 2 which (again in my humble opinion) is possibly top 5 for me.

Hi Jim. Night Slashers is no longer on the Switch eshop. Unless it’s on the Japanese store? Let us know cos last time I searched both the UK and Japanese shop I couldn’t find it.
