Basic review of my 3 man tunnel tent the Coyote 3 by OEX #midwales #oex #rations #solocamp #sonofapitch #survival #tent #backpacking #backpackinggear #bushcraft #coyote3
Great Review Topman. been looking at these tent for a while just for myself for a night away wild camping. Like you I need a great tent for the job happy camping 🏕️
I have one of these tents and I love it.The size of the bedroom area is large and the size of the vestibule area it a complete game changer for me.You can easily store everything in it and with two doors for ventilating you can cook in it if the weather turns bad. Great wee video mate ATB.
I did get some condensation on my last trip out to Loch Doon , but this is inevitable in the present weather.Don`t get me wrong ,although i did get condensation on the flysheet it did not wet the inner tent.Leaving the inner door open and using the mess door would have possibly helped the situation.Im back out in a couple of weeks to Kinloch Rannoch.Hopefully in some cooler weather and hopefully some rainfall. ATB
Great review ! after watching went out and got myself one , planning on doing a few community camps over the next few years and it gives me more options for locations than my tarp does , thanks bud i blamed you and the Dutchess accepted it was your fault and i was not to blame at all ! (NOT !!!! ) but i tried ..
Hope you like it Daz it’s certainly a great tent very spacious, outer pitch first or you can leave the inner attached. Would be perfect for a community camp. I don’t mind getting the blame at all lol 😂
It's looking good , now the rain test video . Btw all zips bend or splay at the back of the zip. If you flatten off the back guides on the faulty zip it'll Fix it . Pull the rails even . Bring zip back to start . Then flatten the sides of the steel zip . A pliers will do . Don't pinch too hard . .... Any old zip
Cheers will give the zip a try. Yes I need a good night out in heavy rain haven’t had the opportunity lately or the weather, snow forecast on high ground around me for next weekend so may end up being a snow test first.
I think priorities change depending on your size . For me at 6ft 2 and 105 kg I feel the difference in comfort of a larger tent more than I feel the 2kg on my back . Pluss I normally go with a girl . I just give her the mat , the mess tins and the hexy burner to off set it . If I do go on my own I still take a 2 man tunnel that's about 3. kg . I can't do those coffins lol
Thanks very much! It’s available on both Amazon and eBay and a few other stores over in the uk, I don’t see why you couldn’t get it shipped to the states. Postage may cost a little but the tent is great value for money !
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment mate, it all depends if your wanting it for backpacking or car camping really? Tunnel tent wise, OEX have the jackel 3 and coyote 3, vango have the scarfel 300 and 300+, nature hike have a 3 person tunnel tent all within budget. I’ve used all 3 brands and they are all good quality some are on the heavy side for back packing
Dan from this channel has just bought one and will be doing a review on it in a couple of weeks, I personally haven’t used this tent so I can’t really comment on it at the moment. Hope this helps if you subscribe and hit the notification bell then as soon as Dan posts the review it will notify you. Cheers Lee
I use a Vango Omega 350 for when I go on motorcycle rallies, I like it's size, there's enough headroom for me to sit in a chair and cook etc. I don't do backpacking camping so weight isn't such an issue, being comfortable is.
@@steveclark.. the omega 350 and coyote 3 are more or less the same design tunnel tent. The omega is larger all round , it must seem massive inside. Would be interesting to pitch them together and compare them !
@@sonofapitch6238 Yeah, it's massive for one person but it's handy for storing all the bike kit and the porch area seats two, real handy when it's chucking it down. Had any experience with Coleman tents? There's one similar but it's porch door could be used with poles to shade you from the sun, that's a great idea I'm thinking.
We have this tent amongst others, me and my son wild camp in the lakes in all weathers, this tent is cracking tent, loads of room, strong, and once you get used to pitching it you can get it nice and tight with no flapping about,
I agree it’s a solid tent in high winds . It’s not the lightest but it is massive inside. The only problem live ever had with it was the poles were so tight to get in I buckled one and then it gave way in the night 😂, I’ve since cut 5 mm off each end of the poles but yet to try it out.
I would check eBay possibly Im know they stock them in go outdoors in the UK not sure if they ship to the US though. Polmoly now do a tent very similar think it’s a hot tent too.
Generally quite good, but I did have a one night where the wind bent a pole. I have repaired it now though. The only downside I found with this tent is that the poles are an extremely tight fit. Other than this it’s a really good tent
I had a friend ship this tent to the US because I love the look and idea of it, and we have nothing that compares over here. The idea of this tent is great but the execution needs work. I've never had a backpacking tent that was so difficult to pitch. In fact, I'd venture to say that it's a 2 person job. You set up the fly first and then have to crawl under to attach the tent? Insanity. Also, a tent should NEVER rely on stakes to keep it standing. It should be freestanding. In places where I camp, the Rocky Mountains, you are never guaranteed you can pound in a stake. Hell, I've camped on pure bedrock before and this tent would not work there. That's a massive fail. I also think the ventilation is lacking; they could have fixed that so easily. I love the size of the sleep area, the height, and the large vestibule is amazing, especially in rainy weather. The tent looks cool and the color is nice. I'd love to see one of the big American companies pick up this design and improve the execution.
The poles are extremely difficult and tight to bend in position, it’s a real fight some days. And yes it’s a let down not being free standing. But having the ability to pitch outer first is a redeeming feature, I know you don’t like the idea of crawling inside to fix the inner in place but once you’ve done it once you can leave it fitted and just pitch it complete. I Agree with you it’s a decent tent that could be amazing with the right manufacturer taking it on.
I don't agree on the freestanding - for sure not being freestanding is bad for your use, but for most people in the market it's designed for it's perfectly fine, in fact there are ways in which it is preferable. If you need a tent that is freestanding, then that's what you should buy - it's far from the end of the world.
