This song I believe it came out in 1982 81 82 it was very popular Pete Townsend of The Who and the song was a big hit play it in a lot of Clubs and everybody was on the Dance Floor little weird to say and dance to but it worked people can make up all kinds of dances reminds me of my boyfriend in 1982 and I moved away I wonder what happened to him mood far away to California and he was way back in Kentucky memories and truly😊😊😊❤ a great song maybe just one more time but I think he's married the internet says so
I know, best hands that ever touched a bass. In rock anyway. Sure theres many others just as good but, damn. he played so gracefully. God i love The Who man. I love the way they make me feel. Im 52 now and was def a fan when i heard them for the first time. But now, i feel like i really understand them. who knows man.
@@pc_buildyb0i935 ya man you did. Groovy bass work , with awesome licks full of feel and descending lil bass fills. As far as rock goes, I would consider the bass in this pretty busy, and is highlighted in the mix.
John Entwistle is such an incredible bass player, nobody is close Thunder Fingers. The bass is all over it with theses tiny bass fill solos as only The Ox could deliver.
I have "A Complete Guide to the Music of The Who" by Chris Charlesworth. He calls Eminence Front "the best song on the album" but says it has "no outstanding bass line". I recall a contemporary reviewer who liked the song but said the rhythm section were not up to delivering what was needed. It makes you wonder what could possibly have satisfied them?
One of the coolest effortless funk jams to exist. Rolling around in a helicopter over the desert at night on GTA SA. This song always came on. That bass that kicks in on the chorus gives me chills every time. Entwistle knew how to make a bassline stand out.
Just an FYI, this was also used as the background music for the GMC Sierra pick up, about being professional grade. A lot of people don't realize that background music is The Who lol
@@cardtrickcalvin8192 It was September 3rd, 1989. SRV died August 27, 1990. What a lineup. I saw The Rolling Stones with ZZ TOP and The Fabulous Thunderbirds at the Cotton Bowl Halloween ‘81. I was 16 and hadn’t heard of Stevie yet.
Good to hear Tasha talk about the meaning of the song. There are too many reactions that pay attention to the music and not the lyrics which are clearly part of the song. She even mentioned a documentary she'd seen and related it to the song. Great stuff!
Yeah, as a musician I'm all into that famous intro and the groove, but she kept pushing the discussion back to the message and making me ponder how it's still relevant over 40 years later.
The two Who albums with Kenney Jones are underrated. I know Keith Moon was a tough act to follow but they had some classics on "Face Dances" and "It's Hard"
Completely agree. No one was going to live up to Moon, but Kenney contributed to several amazing tracks on those 2 albums. They are criminally underrated.
Kenney did great. Any other preceding drummer to replace and he would have been a smashing success. Just hard following Keith. However, Keith was not in control at the end, even during Who Are You.
Yeah because Pete in 2003 was the picture of being in control... when he bought kiddie porn from the Landslide website. Keith and his reputation have nothing to worry about, in comparison, wouldn’t ya say?
Great as this track is, you STILL haven't really heard The WHO! Behind Blue Eyes, Love Reign O'er Me, and Won't Get Fooled Again are absolutely ESSENTIAL Who tracks!
This is the first album The WHO did an album with their infamous drummer Keith Moon . Keith was like the life of the band . People were talking the band couldn't make it without Keith . This song proved those people wrong .
Love your reaction. I'm a 63 year old Canadian. This is my groove..... and every 70's classic rock riff. It's a world. A real world, living in a put on.
Operation Ore Part One. The rabbit hole is not a hole, just Pete getting caught downloading kiddie porn. What’s interesting is that more people know about Jared from Subway being a pedo than Pete Townshend. (Yes, a backhanded compliment to The Who’s legal team. You’re worth 10 times what they pay you.)
@Some Guy but that doesn’t mean they are not a Who fan…we all hear different things. Just because you or I like the song doesn’t mean everyone has to. Other opinions are good too…takes all sorts to make a world! Peace! 🙂
Oh my gosh, I didn’t realize I won! Yeah!!! Good thing I’m not driving, I’d have this blasting, windows down, cruising down the road! Thank you so much for reacting to my pick! 😎☺️ BTW, this came out the year I graduated high school! I’m so glad you liked it. I was so nervous. T, maybe that’s why I love it so much. I love funk music, and I have always considered this “classic rock” as well. Tasha, exactly right. It’s a put on and it’s all bs!
Unfortunately- not sure how you didn’t hear, but The Who (specifically Pete Townshend) were cancelled in 2003 when Pete admitted he had purchased child porn and then came out with this crazy, unbelievable BS about doing “research.” To Hell with Pete Townshend.
The Who were at their inception, first and foremost, an R & B band. It's difficult to see after almost 60 years of their work defining what hard rock is, but the funk was never far from the surface. You should hear them do "Heat Wave".
@Some Guy You are missing the point. And the link between R&B (the essence of funk) and rock and roll. Queen doing "Another One Bites the Dust" was a stretch, because they (save John Deacon) were never into R&B. Led Zeppelin doing "The Crunge" was not a stretch because their background was the blues and some RnB. The Who doing "Eminence Front" makes total sense, because they were very representative of mod RnB culture.
This was a sample of Pete Townsend's writing style towards the end of The Who's great run as one of the world's greatest rock bands. They had lost their drummer, Keith Moon to a drug overdose, and replaced him with Kenny Jones, formerly of the Small Faces. This was the first album The Who put out with Kenny who did a competent job, he wasn't as flamboyant as Keith, but everyone was getting older and mellowed out a little, so their style was reflecting it. When Pete did his solo work, it sounded a lot like this. Social commentary, current events and such. Not love songs or teenage angst anymore, but the bewildering taking notice of adulthood. The loud and obnoxious guitar riffs were gone, replaced by catchy and whimsical picking and strumming. The Who are perpetually on tour. It's just Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend left now, supported by Zach Starkey on drums (Ringo Starr's son, and prodigy of Ringo and Keith) and a different Bass player since John Entwhistle passed away (again, another overdose).
I remember this first time I heard this song, 1982, my older had his own pad, let me come whenever I wanted. He had a kick ass Kenwood stereo, sitting on the floor in front of the big speakers and listening to Eminence Front..what memories this brings back!
My favorite band EVER. They didn't do anything halfway for sure. It's unspeakable that you haven't gotten into them. Listen to that powerhouse that is Daltrey's voice in the song "Love, Reign O'er Me" and you will never forget it.
As George Santayana said "those who forget history are condemned to repeat it." There's a similar theme in another Who song "Won't Get Fooled Again." In the chorus of that song, written during a time when groups like the Black Panthers and the Weathermen were calling for revolution, the protagonist says he will "tip my hat to the new constitution/Take a bow for the new revolution/Smile and grin at the change all around/Pick up my guitar and play/Just like yesterday/Then I'll get on my knees and pray/We don't get fooled again..." Sounds like it could be applied to our current world situation..
You’ve been fooled into thinking Pete is not a pedophile. It’s like your looking at John Wayne Gacy or Hunter Biden’s paintings without the context of who they are (pardon the pun)
@@neilm71 Put on your tinfoil hats, folks, the secret cabal of the corporate/political pedophilic elites are comin' for ya, Jewish space lasers in hand. Nice touch trying to lump Hunter Biden in with Gacy--ludicrous, but a nice touch.
This was a very good reaction. And I mean your breakdown of the meaning of it. I love The Who. I love this song. You showed me this song in a new light.
Yo, I'll apologize ahead of time for not knowing the woman name first time watching your video. For real thou I have listened to that song a thousand if not a hundred thousand times in my lifetime and I always got the Jist of the song but the way the woman broke down the lyrics and said what she felt is the meaning of the song Man opened my eyes her description blew me away. I loved it. Well done Sister! Great job
The Who fan ever since start like music. been born raised in Rio moved to LA . Moved in 81 when was 19 and start seeing all my idols live, remember my first which at the time was living dream Allman Brothers. Was even at the Stones concert when people almost killed Prince, smart he run out of stage. Was around October 83 and The Who had a concert for this new album, to make even more fantastic The Clash played before. L A Coliseum jammed but was able to walk near the stage,The Clash well what can I say when they were finished was out of breath. My girl and I sat on the field to rest drinking water and bear and smoking not a Marlboro . We were there relaxing when the lights went off, and on in all sorts of colors, it was on. They open with a song from the new album with Roger on vocal, He is The Who voice after all and what a voice, played a couple of oldies, when the intro of E Front start before Pete solo came on i was already hooked with the music beat, his solo took me even higher and when he start singing already had on the same level of Love reign on..... . Sure knew he was a good singer, he had release a solo album the year before a good one by the way. Now E Front he wrote for his tune of voice, Roger singing would not feat this tune. Anyway when it was over, got in my car and drove not straight home, went to Tower records to buy the album and still today is on all my playlists.
Seen these guys twice. Absolutely blew me away!! Wait til you hear " love reign o'er me " mind blowing is an understatement. Let's not forget, the album Whos next is one of the best albums ever created. Not just my opinion. Great reaction you guys...you always ' get it '
Thanks for doing this one. It's a favorite of mine. On a great pair of headphones or buds this is UNBELIEVABLE! So much going on. So many overlapping sounds. That incredible bass. This song doesn't get enough love.
probably the best reaction vid ive seen seeing 2 people just vibing 2 a gr8 song love the who love reign o'er me is a different vibe but probably my favourite
I got to see The Who in a sumo cast in Chicago. There was so much demand they had to sumo cast the concert in several theaters in Chicagoland. Then they played the movie Tommy, you gotta see it!
Entwistle also was tasked with composing the lyrics to both of the “dirty” songs on Tommy because Pete Townshend was never molested as a kid and didn’t want the material to come across as inauthentic.
I’m 55 and I don’t know I just I’m glad I grew up when I did because this music was just so great just coming from that generation listening to you know 60s 70s and 80s and even the 50s you’re just never gonna get that kind of music again because he’s bands the best way I can come up the best way I can explain it is These bands, everybody had a unique sound and these guys they sang from the heart they just didn’t put a mic in front of them and just made up words. These people actually talked about their lives and I mean you’re never gonna see groups like this like the Beatles Pink Floyd, I can go on and on Led Zeppelin even even Stevie Ray Vaughan but that’s just my opinion
Great band with an awesome history being part of the 60's "British Invasion" music scene shaped American culture filling stadiums and arenas of crazed fans and music lovers ❤🔥❤
I’ve been a huge huge fan most of my life I mean one of like the top 10 Who fanatics that exist on the planet and this is the first time I’ve heard ANYONE truly understand this song! I had to explain to friends for years they didn’t get it and honestly I think that you got it even better than me!
Pete Townsend the guitarist and writer of the Who, sings lead on this track. He also has a solo record. LET MY LOVE OPEN THE DOOR is a very good tune. As for the Who, if you really want to jam hard listen to THE REAL ME. And listen closely to the lyrics.
The smiles on your faces that broke out after the initial drum intro. says it all. This is one of The Who's later hits of the early 80's after their first drummer Keith Moon passed away.
Right on, bro and sis! That's my theme song right there! Best song ever written: the lead-in, the vocals, Pete's guitar work, the lyrics.....everything. Many things in life really _are_ an eminence front. They've done a live orchestral version with the NY Symphony Orchestra that's killer too, if you can find it. So much great music from The Who. Behind Blue Eyes is one of my favorites, along with Reign O'er Me, Baba O'Reilly, I Can See For Miles, See Me/Feel Me, pretty much all of Tommy.
This is a great Who song. So glad you both liked it so much. Another great Who song is "Join Together". Give that one a try, you'll both love that one too.
When this album came out I was a junior in high school. We went to the record store on release day and bugged them until they cut a box open and sold me a record. We went to my house and put the record on. This was the last song on side 1. It hadn’t been played on the radio yet, and it was different. As I listened I thought, “This is either the best or worst song on the record, but I think it’s probably the best.” And it was. I remember like it was yesterday.
I've followed the Who since before the passing of Keith Moon. When he died, I thought the band was done. But, when this album came out, I knew they had many more years in them.
The Who is the most under rated band ever. These guys are filthy! Killer band. All are great at their instruments and Roger has a great voice. Keith is so insane on the drums. John is Mr. Chill on the bass and Pete is always going nuts on lead. Fun to watch them
Man! Pete Townsend put that bad ass guitar solo right up front and set the tone for the whole thing. You gotta listen to it again. One of the most complex pieces of guitar work you’ll ever hear.
