This song was written and sung by Pete Townsend . It was from their 1982 studio album "Its Hard". When Townsend introduces this song in concert he tells the crowd, " This is what happens if you put too much white powder up your nose". Some say it had to do with his recent rehab. The bass line and the drum beat are so powerful, with the guitar work keeping you entertained. Great reaction. ☃️🎅🌟🎄🎁 ...."Please Come Home For Christmas" .....THE EAGLES.... Pete must've made up and made nice with the Catholic Church, because originally it was a slam on the Vatican and R.C. church - In Concert, Bishops/Cardinals were dressed in red frocks (dressed to kill) strutting their stuff onstage with 'Nuns' - as it's all a put on, a sham by "His Eminence" the Pope - but all such references have been expunged! Doesn't have much reference, if any, to drugs (not nearly as the Vatican reference).

"Eminence" is high power or fame, so an "Eminence Front" is the illusion of such, as Pete Townshend indicates with the line, "It's a put-on." He said the song is about "the absurdity of drug-fueled grandiosity," possibly related to the Ativan detox program he went through shortly before writing the song.

Great song from one of the all time giants of Rock n Roll. This song is one of those that seem to get better over time. So hard to recommend just one, but I’d go with Pin Ball Wizard.

I’m really happy you appreciate the musicality of the Who! No other band sounds like them, GOAT in my humble opinion. Please please please do “Love Reign O’er Me” asap, you both will love it, so powerful and hopeful. Mahalo for what you do!

I honestly don't know a lot of their songs but of those I know this is my favorite. You've heard this before tonight...

Roger Daltry did an album called McVicar which featured songs from a movie he starred in of the same name. While technically it isn't a Who album, it includes all the members of the band. The songs are great. I think you would particularly like "My Time is Gonna Come".

In the music video for this song, the group recorded a dress rehearsal of the song before one of their concerts early in their "farewell tour" in 1982-83. In that dress rehearsal, Pete Townsend performs an incredible guitar solo early on in the song, that was much better than the original recording. Fans would call radio stations, demanding that they play the "MTV version" of the song, and some of them did so by popular demand. The music video is available for viewing here on RU-vid.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO MORE!!! This will be the best rabbit hole you’ve jumped into since Led Zeppelin. You can’t mention John Bonham with mentioning Kieth Moon! Tommy, Quadraphenia, are there two major Rock Operas that require listening from song to sing for the best experience. But the songs can stand along by themselves also. The Real Me is a must for bass and drums

This is one of the few Who songs I absolutely love. Just a fantastic song. The keyboards are mesmerizing. That’s Pete Townsend singing, not Roger Daltry. Love his emotional vocals.

One of the relatively rare songs where guitarist Pete Townhend is singing lead vocals, instead of Roger Daltry.

That was Pete Townsend singing on this one, instead of Roger. I saw the It's Hard 'Farewell' tour at JKF in Oct '82 - Santana then The Clash then The Who. Which makes me think, you should check out Pete Townsend solo... Rough Boys or Gonna Get Ya from Empty Glass.... Anyone?
