Back for 2014, to experience the spectacular aircraft viewing spot on the A15, rumours say this maybe the last time we see this here, well lets hope not.
The Vulcan has to be the coolest plane ever made, I saw one live at Shoreham airshow about 10 years ago and the noise that thing makes is out of this world.
Great to see The Vulcan flying in to home! I still remember as a kid seeing them overhead almost every day. Then as I got a bit older I'd cycle 5 miles up the road and watch The Lightnings. Should have enlisted in The RAF, bit of a life regret not doing.
My sister is heavily in the Vulcan preservation community. I was always a Lightning ⚡ guy. Both are amazing but hers is meant to kill and mine was meant to stop death. It would piss her off when I came out with that twaddle..,☮️ Where did you go to watch them?
The Vulcan has been up two days running now. It must be getting ready for air shows and stuff. There is not a sound on this Earth that makes a noise like this beast, then suddenly after two low level circuits, it pointed upwards at an unbelievable angle and disappeared into the clouds like a javelin! Awesome.
I grew up in Finningley village as a kid in 70/80's and the vulcan 'bomber command' was based there. I'll never forget how the windows and lights used to shake when they took off. You could feel the heat on you face as they put on there after burners to gain hieght above our house. I still get a buzz thinking about it now.
I thought there were no more remaining Vulcans in the world that were flying, this is possibly one of the coolest things I seen, anybody here that day was so lucky.
There is one flying (evidently from this video) its a costly exercise for them but they try to keep her flying for displays. The orginisation that keeps her flying have mostly flown Vulcans' themselves during their military careers. She's a thing of beauty though ain't she.
Liam Husler 2015 will be the last display season ever though as the engines and airframe have about reached their allotted flight hours, very very sad. But Im fortunate enough to have lived close to where it was based (the pilot at the time up to 1993 lived about a dozen doors down the road). I remember we used to get regular flypasts when I was at school, just awesome! Go watch some vids with it on full throttle, sounds like hells being unleashed.
gtametro It would be flying longer if some idiot hadn't left stuff (silica bags last I heard) in the engines when she started up a couple years back, that wrecked two meaning the two spares had to be fitted... totally killed the flight life-span of what she had left.
+N.G Firenz`e Brxdda ✈ I googled it and found out that is is kept in 'taxiable' condition, the airframe is not safe for takeoffs any longer. I would not mind taking a taxi like that home from the local pub....
Blew my phone speakers at 0:41. Blew my ear buds at 1:37. Blew my Bluetooth speaker at 1:57. Blew my computer speakers at 2:10 . Blew my home theater at 3:57. But I knew it was all worth it at 4:16 when I realized I'd gone completely deaf. RIP ear drums.
Wow, there were some interesting things coming in to land! Especially the Draaken and the Viggen. I didn't even think the Draaken was operational still!
I remember my Dad taking me to Fbro airshow when I was a teenager. We had a 2CV and we removed the entire back seat and used it as a sofa! The weather was great and it was 1st time I'd seen (and heard!) Vulcan for real. I admit when it went overhead I was absolutely bloody *terrified* by the noise thru the ground! Oh happy days :-)
absolutely incredible spot! especially with the awacs and then the vulcan at the end. i think that is the only vulcan that is still able to fly too so you're very lucky to have seen that!
Holy Moly, I felt like running and Iam watching it on my laptop......wish I was there to experience that, shame like you say it might be the last time, but watching this vid I can understand why......
Love the lawn chairs and ladders! Just missing the coolers and beer! In America you'd be told to leave for traffic safety. But that B-17 landing...awesome! Like going back in time 70 years and seeing what people experienced in Europe and the UK back then. And I had no idea there was a Saab Draken even still flying! Nice to see European warbirds like that still around.
Actually, no you can watch approaches at Air Park in Queens, NY. It is situated on approach to 4-22 and is located across from the airport and Grand Central Parkway. I spent many a day there with my boys watching approaches and shooting stills and videos.
florret2003 - Reminds me of sitting in the park (Gravelly National Park) in front of Washington DC's Reagan National airport when they are landing to the south for 19 after following the Potomac down from the northwest! Bigtime plane spotting there too and it's even great when they taxi up to 19 and take off to the south. What I was referring to was runways that are next to roads where people pull off, just like this one. I used to live near Lockheed-Martin's factory in Marietta GA (Dobbins Air Reserve base) and the road that runs north-south on the southeastern side of the runway with an excellent view (Cobb Parkway). When pulling off the road there and getting out to shoot photos or video the Cobb County or local Marietta police would tell me to move along.
Awesome video! One can almost feel the shock waves as these giants fly by! And did you see those kids having a great time, waving theirs arms in the air.. wonderful!
I had 35 years in the US Air Force and was on flying status, and I have to say the Vulcan is one of the coolest aircraft I've ever seen. Back in the mid-1970s, I saw one at McGuire AFB, New Jersey. He did a low approach cross-ways to the main runway (toward the crowd) and then went full throttle up. Unreal!
@@rvnmedic1968 not really, i crewed on board RC-135 aircraft (same plane at 3:00 mark but the plane in the video is RAF) which were sac planes but i was usaf security service. kadena and offutt (eielson and mildenhall) thanks again, take care
As a kid we used to park up at the end of Lakenheath runway watching the F111 land. Some of the pilots waved and some opened up the afterburners for us. It all stopped though as the Uber sensitive yanks claimed it was a security issue and made a designated viewing area out of the flight path which is totally useless now.
+Rich77UK Makes sense, as per your statement that the pilots would focus on the watchers as they were landing, instead of focusing entirely on the landing, I can see how that can be an issue. Why should we lose a $50-$100 million aircraft to impress a gaggle of Brits who wish they had the military hardware we do, so much they decide to distract our pilots?
+CuIt of Personality There is always one twat about isnt there. You don't think that the aircraft had enough warning systems and safety protocol that the pilot (or copilot as they are side by side in the F111) could give a simple wave lasting less than 3 seconds? They do it at airshows regular enough.
Aircraft in the video: Boeing KC-767A Pegasus Turkish Air Force F-16 SE-LRA: Saab 2000 Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress No idea... Saab J35 Draken F-16 Fighting Falcon Boeing E-3 Sentry Royal Netherlands Air Force Hunter F6A Royal Air Force RC-135W Red Arrows Not even gonna question what aircraft that truck was transporting... Eurofighter Typhoon XH558: Avro Vulcan Another Vulcan, possibly same one, just from different perspective
Not sure if it's still the case, but when I lived outside Detroit many years ago there was a great viewing spot right at the north end of the primary runway used for inbound flights. Very similar proximity to what's seen here, but with an unobstructed view of the runway. I have a great shot of a British Airways 747 passing directly over my head. Next time I'm back for a visit I'll have to see if the spot became off limits after 9/11 (or possibly due to a major expansion project that happened some time after I moved away).
Great video. Nice assortment of aircraft. Reminds me of my Jr./High School age sitting at the end of the runway of Castle AFB. Would love to see a flying Vulcan.
Even by modern aviation standards, keeping the solitary Vulcan bomber in the air, is frightfully expensive. It cost several million pounds to restore and return it to operational flight, and it's four massive Olympus Rolls Royce engines drink more fuel than any current preserved aircraft in private ownership. Even though it's four engines have hardly and air mileage in them, 2015 will be the final year it sees active service. It will then be mothballed for future generations to admire, but unfortunately will not leave the ground at the end of 2015. On the 29th August, weather permitting it will be making one of its last flights at the Rhyl airshow, and i will be there to see it.
I saw it a few years ago at the Blackpool Air Show.. what an incredibly strange sound it makes?! Just curious about your comment about the amount of fuel used.. if it was so poor why was it considered a viable option to build?
I'm surprised they don't have this area closed off for security. Here in the states the FAA and Homeland Security would have a fit about people being able to come and go through the final approach path of a major airport or air force base.
That`s a good point, although we don`t know if there was a discreet security presence - probably was. It`s a very white part of England,so any dark complected folks would have ankle tags.
You're surprised because you're American. In most countries around the world people don't act crazy. Your culture is rotten. Your people have no concept of right and wrong, no heritage, your country has no history. Your country is a bastardisation of criminal immigrants and outcasts from other countries. We have churches and castles older than your country. I'm not saying this to insult but to explain why your country will never be wholly civilised for a very long time. I will never visit America.
