Awesome Pilot Skill | US Air Force Thunderbirds F-16 Fighter Jet Cockpit View | US Air Force Thunderbirds F-16 Fighter Jet World's Most Elite Aerobatic Demonstration Teams.
The USAF Air Demonstration Squadron ("Thunderbirds") is the air demonstration squadron of the United States Air Force (USAF).[1] The Thunderbirds are assigned to the 57th Wing, and are based at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. Created 65 years ago in 1953, the USAF Thunderbirds are the third-oldest formal flying aerobatic team (under the same name) in the world, after the United States Navy Blue Angels formed in 1946 and the prestigious[citation needed] French Air Force Patrouille de France formed in 1931.
The Thunderbirds Squadron tours the United States and much of the world, performing aerobatic formation and solo flying in specially marked aircraft. The squadron's name is taken from the legendary creature that appears in the mythologies of several indigenous North American cultures.
On 1 March 2013, the USAF announced that due to budget cuts, aerial demonstration team performances would cease indefinitely, effective 1 April 2013. On 6 December 2013 the Thunderbirds announced their 2014 schedule and the resumption of their appearances.
The Thunderbirds perform aerial demonstrations in the F-16C Fighting Falcon, and they also fly two F-16D twin-seat trainers.
The F-16 has been the demonstration aircraft for the Thunderbirds since the 1983 season. In January 1982, 4 members of the squadron were killed in what became known as the "Diamond Crash" of T-38 Talon aircraft which the squadron had flown since 1974.[8] Partially as a result of that accident, the squadron switched to the F-16A, and sat out the 1982 airshow season and spent that year retraining and transitioning over to the new aircraft to ready themselves for the 1983 season. The F-16, however, had been considered for transition prior to the accident. In rebuilding the Thunderbird Team, the Air Force recruited previous Thunderbird pilots, qualified each in the F-16A, and had them begin by flying "two-ship" maneuvers, then expanded the program one airplane at a time up to the full six airplanes. Beginning in June 1982, the F-16 Thunderbirds were led by Major Jim Latham.
The team continues to fly the F-16, having switched from the F-16A to the F-16C in 1992. Only a few minor modifications differentiate a Thunderbird from an operational F-16C. These include the replacement of the 20 mm cannon and ammunition drum with a smoke-generating system, including its plumbing and control switches, the removal of the jet fuel starter exhaust door, and the application of the Thunderbirds' glossy red, white, and blue polyurethane paint scheme. All of the modification work is performed at the maintenance depot at Hill AFB near Ogden, Utah. Other than those modifications, the aircraft are taken from the standard USAF inventory as production fighters, and can be returned to an operational squadron in short order without any major modification.

@1stviper589
@1stviper589 5 лет назад
Hey man don't know if anybody ever answered your question about how often they replace aircraft for demonstrations teams.(Basic answer), Typically Frontline ,in service ,aircraft are brought in and completely gone through to check for structural cracks or potential problems and have non essential components removed but not changed too drastically. Once they have served on the team a year or two typically they are brought back into the Depo hanger and completely checked again, having non essential equipment reinstalled ,and often times upgrades done, plus they're obviously repainted before and after ,and flight tested before returning to Squadron (whether on board aircraft carriers or on land for the Blue Angels )or to their assigned wing for Air Force jets

@@@1stviper589- F-16's (I worked on them for many years) along with any other tactical fighter in the USAF have set intervals for isochronal(phase) inspections. Phase is done at home station. Does not matter if they are on the Thunderbird's. Thunderbird maneuvers do not stress aircraft any more than standard training. Actually probably less stress is placed on them. Essentially they replace them when they need to do so. Hill AFB is the F-16 depot and that is also done on a specific interval unless there is another reason to bring the aircraft in (major modifications, crash etc.) What most people don't know is regular maintenance troops at Nellis do a lot of "Thunderbird" maintenance. I know. I hated Nellis.

@@nomadjeff1922 by the way I did work on the very first F16s that came from General Dynamics Fort Worth, because I was in the fourth Amu of the 388th TAC Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base ,so we were the first-ever operational ready F-16 Wing in the world and they sent us from Norway to Australia to Egypt to kadena and we sure had a lot of bugs to work out of those early birds. In fact not long after we got our Birds the Israeli showed up to use the Wendover bombing range to practice for their Iraqi nuclear raid. Amazingly this was the same place that Colonel Paul Tibbets who I met in the early 90s established the bomb Wing to drop the atomic bomb

@@nomadjeff1922 one of the really cool things that consistently happened at Hill Air Force Base what is getting to see unique aircraft show up like the SR-71 that had to come into Transit alert for repairs ,and the "Guppie " that would bring rocket booster engines and parts for Morton thiokol who would test their shuttle booster engines out and Tremonton near the Great Salt Lake not to mention we had many nations come and train there

Well you can't really decisively say that Blue Angels( which are Navy and Marine Corps Pilots) or the Air Force Thunderbird Pilots are better,other than it's a matter of preference like chocolate or vanilla.... both teams bring in the best possible, experienced, compatible members to create these extraordinary teams. Pilots have one heart, one goal and one mindset, but the two teams have distinctively different performances. Hopefully you've been able to actually see both perform live more than once to truly appreciate each team's unique capabilities ,especially if you've ever seen the Canadian Snowbirds or the Breitling team or the French team perform

Adminstrative formation skill by definition can never be described as pilot skill. Interview actual tactical F-16 pilots someday, if you can find them.
@joshandkorinna
@joshandkorinna 5 лет назад
This is a ridiculous Statement.
@135iN55
@135iN55 5 лет назад
@@joshandkorinna Its not actually. The T-Birds aren't F-16 pilots, they are a cross section of AF pilots. Despite the outright lie that they could be converted to a combat unit, they can't, none are MR F-16 pilots, let alone qualled in weapons delivery or proficient in any meaningful way. Huge waste of airplanes. Its a shame we feel the need to pretend the USAF in any way operates like this or values these kinds of meaningless administrative "skills." It would be way better to do a fire power demo with actual F-16 pilots instead of these knuckleheads. They are chosen primarily based on their sex, ethnicity, and looks. Disgraceful. Its a slap in the face to tactical pilots who have flying skills. Same goes for the Blue Angels, of course.
@joshandkorinna
@joshandkorinna 5 лет назад
@@135iN55 I legit can't tell if you're trolling or not. Extreme tight formation flying is hardly "administrative skills." Yes, we should do live fire exercises in place of a formation demo at the dozens of airshows they appear at every year because that'll be much cheaper. Nobody who knows anything about this actually believes that the USAF actually operates like this or that the ground crews actually exercises that amount of pageantry preping a plane for take off, it's just supposed to look impressive and it does. They also make it explicitly clear that these aren't just F-16 pilots but pilots from various units throughout the AF. Also, waste of airplanes? Do you think we're really hurting for F-16's. We have a shit ton. If we really really really needed them they could shortly be converted back to combat ready though I doubt they'd be up to the latest Block standards. What other retarded thing do you have to say?
@135iN55
@135iN55 5 лет назад
