Bands like Metallica owe a lot to Venom, I remember there being this buzz in Newcastle about Venom back in 78/79, the first of any genre always struggle in some way.
They gave name to the black metal genre, but the music itself (except for the lyrics) has little in common with actual black metal. You have to look at the Norwegian band Mayhem for the creation of black metal. The Venom sound inspired many genres.
@@zaph1rax Bathory, Venom, Iron Maden and a few others were the beginning inspiration for black metal. As you said Venom isn't really black metal but they gave the name and some of the sounds for it. Iron Maden inspired a lot of the imagery and Bathory is one of the earliest black metal bands, besides Mayhem. The genre started as a way to say fuck you to the christian influence in Norwegian life/government. I know I'm missing some bands, just can't think of the names right now
@@zaph1rax Venom ARE "BLACK METAL" The Scandinavians and the rest, purloined "Venom's ideas and concepts" and made them their own. Venom were the benchmark for them to expound and and expand their concepts and sound but VENOM are their dads. Including "Bathory"
Many (who are more knowing than I am) have compared "Don¨t burn the witch" with Metallica's "Master of puppets". I must say that now when it's been pointed out they are very influenced by each other. Problem: Venom was far earlier.

Most metal fans don't have any money, so you can't make much money in metal. They drive old beaters, wear cheap old dirty clothes. Better to look for people who drive new Mercedes they have tons of money to throw around so you can make money, they don't like metal.
The album is called Black Metal (2nd Venom album, released in 1982). Venom's Legions refers to their fans. At War with Satan is the title of their 3rd album with a 20 minute title track. What you heard was kind of a teaser for that song which closes the Black Metal album.
Venom were a 3 piece band from Newcastle, England formed in the late 1970s early 1980s. They were the forerunners of all Black Metal bands and an inspiration to Metallica and many others. Whilst their songs may be deemed a bit outdated, you have to remember that this type of musical approach was new at its time.
They made an album called "At war with Satan". The whole A-side is that song they just started here. (Btw, In legue with Satan is their most famous song)
Their more known song is 'Witching Hour.' Should add in some 'Celtic Frost' to your listening. Try 'Dethroned Emperor,' and 'Procreation of the Wicked' by C. Frost. They definitely had a big influence on metal in general.
"How do you start a new song then just fade out?" Haha, that's why it says "preview" in parentheses - that narrative bit was the prelude/intro portion of the title track to the next album.
The original Venom came together in the late 70's in England... they were 3 bodybuilders 😂 I think, who started a heavy metal band. They weren't good as musicians, so they took the punk rock approach - play loud, fast & hard! That became Venom's sound that was a huge inspiration to Metallica... plus their satanic imagery was more explicit and was meant to shock. The original band was Cronos (Conrad Lant, vocals & bass), Mantas (Jeff Dunn, guitar) & Abaddon (Tony Bray, drums) Early Venom was very raw, and they trademarked themselves 'black metal' in 1982... They were expected to become big, but the bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, etc... that they influenced, took the world by storm, while Venom petered out, along w/ Raven, Anvil, Exciter, Diamond Head, etc. Cronos quit Venom in the 80's, replaced by Tony 'Demolition Man' Dolan (bass & vocals) for a few albums... Cronos rejoined Venom in the 90's, but currently, Cronos is the only original member in Venom, while Dolan has his own version - Venom Inc.
Bands influenced by Venom? Well, early Slayer for one... Venom's song "Witching Hour" was part of their live repertoire for decades. Tons of thrash bands outside of the Big Four covered Venom in demos. The primary German thrash bands like Destruction, Kreator and especially Sodom borrowed liberally from their sound and aesthetic.. Just about any band from the 80s that could be called Death Metal or Black Metal. The avant-garde metal band Celtic Frost grew out of Hellhammer, whose guitarist and founder Tom Warrior described as "a Venom clone, and a deficient one at that". Norwegian Black Metal originators Mayhem covered Venom songs on their first two albums. Too many to name.
Interesting comparison with Master of Puppets. I totally hear it now. So funny I have been listening to Venom and Metallica since bout 85 and Never heard it that way before lol Thats why I love these reaction videos to bands I grew up with. A different perspective. Now I cant unhear Master in this song now lol
"Legions" is not the album title - this is the Black Metal album (1982). The best era was with the original trio (Conrad "Cronos" Lant = lead vocals & bass / Jeff "Mantas" Dunn = guitars & vocals / Tony "Abaddon" Bray = drums) : - 1981 - Welcome To Hell - 1982 - Black Metal - 1983 - At War With Satan - 1985 - Possessed Worthy mention : 1987's Calm Before The Storm has a couple of good tracks : Black Xmas (ideal pick for the holidays as they draw near!), The Chanting Of The Priests, Muscle.
If you like that outro section (the prelude for At War With Satan), you may wanna check out the actual track, AWWS. It runs over 20 minutes, but there are so many changes throughout that you won't be bored, and, the ending has another little "epilogue" of demonic narration to finish things off.
Venom were heavily influenced by Kiss and Judas Priest, but your right Venom along with Motorhead were a huge influence on the extreme Metal scene the Thrash and Death Metal Bands that followed.
I'm ashamed to admit that I've been listening to both bands since I was a teenager in the 80's and I never heard the similarities between the two songs until you brought it up. 😞 Bad Metal Mamma...
Right Right don't burn the witches. We don't like burning. Since we are not made of wood, even if we weigh the same as a Duck. 5 Internet points for the reference
@@bschuler6216 No Quepie Doll. Though I'll give you 1 Internet point for Historical correctness, but You will have to talk to the French men who will probably Taunt You. Just watch out for the Bridge of Death.
Thank you t really dug the opeth my arms your hearse live stream I think 2 days ago now lol I can't remember I try to check all of of yalls videos though 🤘
Not the best musicians and production, but that makes it dark and raw, they have some cool lyrics too: " Lay down your soul to the GODS! Rock and Roll! " Definitely pioneers, the first band to really throw the whole satanic devil worship thing into parents faces haha
You'll find that a lot of black metal is legitimately satanic. Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Belphegor, Dark Funeral; all are for real satanic. A lot of talent in these bands, to be sure, but it's worth noting what you're getting into with black metal
subbed a while ago, didn't know you were a Christian! There's some great Christian metal bands and songs worth anyone's time, some suggestions that come to mind are Extol's "Ember", Underoath's "The Last" or "Cries From the Past" or Zao's "5 Year Winter"
lol never mind, made it a few minutes into the video hahahaha, but still, great songs none the less, I'm not a Christian but Extol, Zao and those first 2 underoath albums can get it lol
@@TheAdventuresofTNT absolutely, I don't believe in satan, but that doesn't stop me from loving black metal, why shouldn't a good christian band squeak in there, and extol are definitely that. a few members went on to make a great new band called Azusa that is also fantastic and worth your time
The music and lyrical flow during the verses reminds me of Kill Again by Slayer but I am sure Slayer ripped this one. I love early Slayer but it was a Venom copy.
Then why title your video a Christian guy reacts to video?I love to watch your videos but when made the comment about religion that almost made me want to stop watching your videos.
