Check out the great new Untuned Jaw Harps from Shaun Jones of the USA. It is always a great day for new Jaw Harps. Shaun Jones Jaw Harps can be found here www.theharpery.com/special-pu...
Hey jamie! The high harp is not forged. It is made from a very old common nail. I acquired a small pile of them recently Another note on harps cleaning up after playing them for a few minutes: I've found that after cleaning them with alcohol, the friction between trigger and your finger is increased by a lot, sort of like adding rosin to a bow, and the more friction there, the more secondary vibrations in the trigger which interfere with the vibrations of the reed, adding some dirt to the sound. I saw a post recently suggesting adding a tiny amount of coconut oil to the trigger to reduce this friction, and it really has an effect on the sound
Hey Shaun, I’ve only just started making harps so I’m still learning for sure, but I clean my harps with 99% iso when I’m all said and done and immediately rub coconut oil all over the harp. I have definitely noticed the friction change before and after and also noticed the sound change, but had know idea that was why. Great info! Love your stuff too. I will be looking to order one as soon as my wife lets me spend more money on harps… (Hence why I started making them!) 🤣
