All Van Halen is Van Halen. So tired of people bagging on Sammy. He’s a much better Singer than DLR. DLR is a better dancer. They are both great. RIP Eddie. You are missed.
5150 is the album, released in 1986, it was Van Halen's first album to go to #1 on the Billboard rock charts. That smash, plus Why Can't This Be Love, Love Walks In and Dreams were huge hits.
"GET UP" is an underrated song from the Van Hagar era.. the 5150 album. Its fast.. like really fast. With the slightest tweak or could be made into a thrash song.
In 1986 I was 15years old and had been playing guitar for around 3 years. I'd never heard of Van Halen. I was totally into the Beatles, then found my guitar hero in Mark Knopfler from Dire straits, but one day (in Summer) my friend from up the street comes over with his mountain sized getto blaster, loads a tape of VH 5150, and says "listen to this".....he hits play and it was the intro to Summer nights. I had never heard guitar playing like that before.......it was the sound of an angry menacing guitar riff mixed with beautiful melodic tones......it was oozing out of those speakers and into my soul.....it was a drop everything moment as we both just stood grinning at eachother appreciating every slick slide and every string scrape.....it was Edward Van Halen. That changed everything in my guitar playing world.
David Lee Roth might have been the perfect front-man for VH (even though he couldn’t remember any lyrics on stage or was usually bombed out of his skull), but when Sammy Hagar joined the band.....that’s when a an ACTUAL songwriter joined the band. This is one of my “Hagar Era” favorites. Give “Black And Blue” a listen. That’s another worthy jam. For some reason nobody has reacted to it.
Back in the early 80’s, the band ‘Journey’ took some time off from each other and did they’re own solo acts... during this time, Journey guitarist “Neil Schon” teamed up with Sammy Hagar and two other guys (Kenny Aaronson and Michael Schreve) to form HSAS (Hagar, Schon, Aaronson, Schreve). They only put out one album ( Through the Fire), but IMO, THIS was Sammys best work ever. A MUST listen to!!! So underrated and never recognized. Lots of great tunes on that album... Animation Valley of the Kings He will understand
I think that's 86, and I couldn't have been more happy about it....loved Sammy and Van Halen....Roth was ....Roth...so great switch and new breath for fresh air for the guys.
5150 is a fantastic Van Halen album, released in March 1986 it was Van Halen's first Album to hit #1 on Billboards top 100, their previous release 1984 peaked at #2 on the Billboard top 100 ( I think Michael Jackson's Thriller was at #1 at this time ) I like & have seen both versions of Van Halen . Hey T!! Check out these other Hagar era Van Halen songs. Poundcake, Right Now, Judgement Day, Humans being ( from the Twister Soundtrack), Don't tell me what Love can do , Finish what Ya started, Good Enough, Love walks in.
The title track, 5150, is highly underrated too. Everyone has a jumping on point with VH. Mine was Jump on the 1984 album. However, I was only 9 or 10 then so there were other more important things in my life than music. So when I really came to appreciate VH, Sammy was my guy through my teens and into college.
Best song and best album right on bro! thanks for this. Listened to this back in the late 90s as a teenager, now 30 years later still makes you feel good just like you said. and also how you said it made you live memories that you didn't experience this song did the same thing for me ! It takes you right into summer and it made me really appreciate those hot summer nights having a good time listening to the radio and this song!
This song is like no other song I've ever heard, only Eddie Van Halen could have came up with something so different but so cool, R.I.P. Eddie we are still missing you old friend.
The album is 5150 one of the best songs on it (along with Summer Nights) is Dreams. Give it a listen you won't regret it. You gotta watch the VH Live without a net guitar solo it captures Eddie at his best.
Sammy released an album while he was w/ Van Halen, "I never said goodbye" which is a solid album. Eddie played bass, the 1st song "when the hammer falls down" is a great song. Before Sammy joined VH, he had a solo album VOA which was huge with the hit "I can't drive 55".
This whole album reminds me of hanging out with my friends the summer of 86 in high school. My friends and I loved DLR with Van Halen and were bummed when they broke up but this album was awesome! BTW the album of the summer of 87 was Def Leppard 's"Hysteria".
I was a big fan of Van Halen from a young age. David Lee Roth was out of the band & I hated him for leaving. I finally was old enough to see them live & got to see Van Halen twice w/ Sammy which was great, but I wish I could have seen Roth w/ the band. Please listen to "Best of both worlds" on this album 5150. 5150 is the police code for a crazy person. And "finish what you started" & "black & blue" from the next album OU812. Thanks 👍
Some of my favorites are Hang em high, Dirty movies, Girl gone bad and AFU. You should check that guitar out that Ed plays on Summer nights. It's very small and you can lock in different tunings with the tremolo bar. Edward said he missed the correct lock once in concert and had to stop the song. Ed never makes mistakes.
Van Halen Sammy era, please check out Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do, Seventh Seal, Feelin, Judgment Day, Mine All Mine, Best Of Both Worlds, 5150, Humans Being
Judgement Day is a BEAST of a song, and gets almost zero attention. It's my favorite from Unlawful, closely packed in with pleasuredome and the dream is over.
@@phildodson6141 up top!👏 Next you'll probably say VH is the greatest rock band to ever exist- I mean, besides... umm. . uhh... I'll have to get back to you on those other bands..
Uggg Sammy's so cheezy .. original chemistry of Van Halen is why we are all talking about Eddie to this day. We would not be remembering the same Van Halen !
I do love David Lee Roth fronting VH in the early days.....When Sammy joined VH they really matured to a GREAT BAND! But I really missed the "Red Rocker," Sammy he kind of sat behind Eddie. I think in so many ways Sammy was the best frontman of VH. I think Wolfie is a great musician but I do think they done Mark so wrong....Thank goodness he still performs with Sammy. Such a great song...I LOVE THIS SONG! Reminds me so much of my youth growing up in the San Joaquin Valley in Calofornia...a lot of HOT summer nights, crusin....OMG
My favorite band, duh. Since 1981. I saw them twice with Sammy. It made VH a different band, but I loved the Hagar era. There's no one like Dave though
Love Dave and Love Sammy. Most of the differences between the two iterations of VH had more to do with where Eddie's mind was at, than they had to do with the vocalists in my opinion. I've always loved this track. If you want another Sammy track with a similar vibe I recommend the song Cabo Wabo. Thanks for another great reaction.
Great reaction to my favorite group of all time !!, I think “The Dream is Over” is the best song of the Van Hagar era and one that you might like,,,Keep those Van Halen reactions coming !!, Any more Friday night party’s planned???
For me, many albums have a season. For Van Halen, the two big summer albums are 5150 and F.U.C.K. A bit more pop. Winter albums.....VH3, VH2, Women and children first. Fall is Fair Warning all the way. Spring...........Diver Down, VH1, 1984, anticipating summer time. I love them all, but different times of the year get different play times for each album.
This is a Amazing song but you should have reacted to the live version...Eddie does a extended solo that is off the chain...and if your favorite time of year is fall check out Jackolanterns Weather by 311...talk about funky...
Maybe being a fan of Sammy Hagar from his Montrose and solo days made me biased, but I loved Van Halen with both he and David Lee Roth. Saw the band live with Dave in '84 and live in '88 with Sammy and both concerts rocked! In fact if they had to replace Dave who better than the Red Rocker himself.
I love your reactions brother !!! You are honest and always smiling, it shows that you enjoy knowing good Metal / Rock and you enjoy every moment, it would be possible that you would react to "La Cantata Del Diablo - Diabulus in opera" by the Spanish band Mago De oz (?) Greetings from Concepción (Chile)
I prefer Roth but they did have some great songs with Sammy, bottom line though without Hagar VH would have been over because there was absolutely no reconciling with Roth during these times!
Sammy is a badass, I don't understand the hate. Sammy is an awesome performer and an accomplished musician and vocalist. It would be great if you did a reaction to something from his solo career. One of my favorites is VOA, The voice of America. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_c51qJ3Ad_4.html
I don't think you can really understand the disparity of fan opinion after the DLR spit unless you were there, truly. Looking at it 10, 20, 30 years later if you were not a fan back then, can't tell the full picture.
First of all....I just love all Van Halen albums. Those that don't like Sammy just don't want to acknowledge that he is a much better singer than DLR. Those people are the ones that won't also acknowledge RJD in Black Sabbath. 🤔
