AWFUL PLAYSTATION GAMES: HBO Boxing Review 

This game was not great, but back when it came out I couldn't stop playing it because it was the only boxing game with Roy Jones jr in it. Beast Mode, back in the days when I was a kid Roy Jones jr was my favorate fighter to watch. Although this is not a great game, when it came out I was happy with it.

They admitted that they messed up the 'reach' aspect, they took the tip to tip reach and ignored the shoulder width!

The health meter goes down sooo slow it's like watching paint dry.

I refuse to play George Foreman if I can not unleash the power of the Foreman Grill

LMFAO I love the exaggerated stance of Roy Jones Jr. in this game. That is hilarious.They might as well have made the character model drag his knuckles on the ring floor.

Glad you pointed out the reach problem; Marciano was known for a short reach, which was part of why he had so much power in his punches. So Stan, in their prime who do you think would win between Roberto Duran and Rocky Marciano? I have to go with Duran on this one.

I loved the injury system in this game where it would tell you your opponent had a brused eye or cut or broken bone.

Im gonna buy this game because of the roster and because HBO boxing doesn't exist anymore so this is a must have for me... Also I played it before and it's fun to play

Just got my copy 3.99$ CAD my pros and cons. Pros: Realistic judges score and ref/stoppages , Clinch battles, Fighter selection. Cons: Controls, Difficulty, Sluggish Movement.

Dude Great call on Knockout Kings 2000, I remember when I was a kid.. Me and my Dad poured so many hours upon hours into this one game.. lol it is epic

Have you played any of the older UFC games? I had one for PS2 (Throwdown, I think). I don't remember enjoying it very much.

@yorrickwi Nothing's wrong with QWOP, though. It's a simple flash game with a gameplay mechanic that's supposed to be difficult.

I recall wanting to get this and Mike Tyson Boxing to expand my PS1 boxing game library at one time. Ultimately, I didn't and just stuck with KK 2001. Actually, i respect this man's opinion but the game doesn't look bad for an early PS title. I do remember some positive reviews on this game back in the day...

I had fun with this game. Had flaws sure, it wasn't the best graphically and was limited feature wise, but this game not that awful to me.

Any TV show game is horrible? Ahem, Ducktales, Chip n Dale, Darkwing Duck for the NES are all great games. So are the TMNT arcade games and the Tiny Toons games, both made by Konami.

I just picked this game up and almost wrote off the career mode until I began advancing in the rankings.It actually got pretty addicting afterwords. The combos work well if you learn how to pull them off.Plus the HBO overlays look great.The first few bouts in career mode are quiet,no announcers ,but once you move up the announcers come Into play.Plus ,you can change your fighters appearance in mid career to keep things new.Not an outstanding game but far from horrible.Gotta give it time.

i disagree with so much. HBO boxing was an ok game, but it was MUCH better than knockout kings 2000. KK looked alot better in fights, but HBO had a better insight into boxing imo.. my fave things about HBO (besides the great playable names from all boxing eras) were the career mode/training simulator, and the injuries in the fights (i had many long fights where i sustained my opponents injuries without knocking them out to get a TKO from "gushing cuts" and broken ribs haha im a sadist) if i remember right, combos are pulled by pressing a series of buttons (like most fight games that time around) i think you were just totally hung up on the aesthetics of the game

Hey Stan, have you ever played Victory Boxing for PS1? I remember it being a lot of fun back in the day, although by today's standards it would feel very clunky in terms of control and polygon count.

The Atari 2600, ColecoVision, IntelliVision, Commodore, Amiga, NES, Genesis, SNES, TurboGrafix, NeoGeo, Sega Saturn, N64, PS1, and more consoles from the late 70's-late 90's all have many games that are good, and lots of people (including the maker of this video) agree with me on that. However, those consoles also have many BAD games as well. This is a bad PS1 game. That's all.

You should do Jaws Unleashed for the PS2 or Pc. My friend saw it in the shops today and thought it would be funny to reprise my memories with it on the PC. trust me, it was so bad on the PS2 that it made it funny at its own fail but PC controls where just fucked...F12 was an attack...so i had to jump around the dam keybored like a Mexican pixie running for the border. No offence to Mexicans there.

And guess what? It was made the same people who that game as well.

This game is like a terrible mixture of Hellboy and Mike Tyson's Boxing on the Ps1. But Hellboy was still worst. This game is just like this using the same shitty ass "One-Punch-at-a-Time" mechanic. That pile of rabbit shit non-effective punches. This games looks hideous! This is a game some slacker would make, not a popular productive company like HBO! I disagree with George Foreman looking fine, he looks like the biggest gorilla of them all! Atleast his arms aren't Stretchable-Long. Anyways, we had Ready 2 Rumble and Punch Out, two awesome and very popular boxing games. That's the games me and my brothers grew up on. We'd play that so much with our father. This crap? What is this that I'm watching? Also, the HBO in this trash game standing for "Horrendous Boxing Orangutans!"

This review sucks, you didnt show any combo,the boxing styles,the carreer mode,the character editor,the injuries,the taunts,the personal punches i think this is much way better than KO kings 2000,that one is a robot fight game...the only thing that i agree is that ridiculous arm range in SOME characters...basically you based the review on that...but when you are playing you dont think about that,anyway i think this one, "Ko Kings 2001" and "Ready 2 rumble 2" ( if you like fantasy boxing) are the best boxing games for the ps1,and i played ALL boxing games for this console.
