@@ernestpadilla-je3rk My Nana used to say it all the time so I asked her (and confirmed with google later) she said "it means that you are so confident in your prediction or statement that you are willing to bet your dollars against donuts, or more literally bet something worthwhile against something meaningless." Keep in mind the time this saying probably came about donuts were likely only a few cents each, so putting up dollars against donuts meant 1 dollar to 1 donut (or a couple pennies). And now I have passed on my Nana's wisdom to another, please do the same if you ever get a chance :)

As a wheelchaired person, if someone tells me to "go to school/somewhere is amazing. People telling me to "drive home" (I don't own a car) are fine as well, but I prefer to be treated like any other person, if they can walk or not
Something like this happend to me once. I was in the store searching for something, it was right in my face but i didnt see it, so i asked a store guy and asked where it was, they showed me it and i said: "Ugh im so blind" Then there was a blind guy next to me, but he didn't mind.
I was working on something and someone missed something that someone said and someone I know whispered to me (as a joke, she wasn't attempting to hurt this guys feelings and she was very obvious about that) "he's so deaf." I think she forgot I was hearing impaired. I had great fun laughing at that in my head. (Just to be clear, this didn't bother me at all I thought it was hilarious.)
That’s hilarious, I’m blind, people make those comments in public all the time, I’ll just turn around and look at them smile and say same Bestie, it’s all just funny lol
That’s so sweet and there are people out there who are horrible to people like that because they don’t see them as a equal to them because they have a certain disability we’re all human we’re not all the same every single person on this is unique in their own way
As someone who is blind, you handled this situation well. With him grabbing your arm, thats called the sighted guide technique. Definitely something that would be good to get some more information on, so if you have to guide him in the future you are able to properly. (Its not complicated

My uncle is blind, one of the best guys I've ever met. He wasn't born blind but his eye-sight deteroated early on. He's got grandkids now, loves jokes about his blindness. He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met, including his 7 still alive brothers.
I think the thing with comments like that are the context of them. If you don’t mean it to be nasty then quite often people won’t take it that way. I’m glad it worked out for OP
I did that with my coworker. He is wheel chair bound. He asked me what I was up too. I said," you know, walking around." I felt so bad, I apologized. He said he appreciated I talked to him like I do anyone else.
Pro tip: if you ever make an accidental pun like this follow it up with a joke drum sound "badun stu". it makes it feel like a cheeky one liner instead of you just fumbling
this is great. (i love this story) but theres a flip side, even if the blind child's sister knows that his brother in law is going to pick him up, someone could easily take advantage of his blindness and end up kidnapping him. This story is so wholesome but it's scary that we even think about these terrible things.
It makes perfect sense not only that but you have to remember people that are burn blind. That’s the world they know so they know everything all the other senses kick in to make up for the lack of the site so they know what time it is so yeah he knows what time it is, so of course he’s happy. You treat him like everybody else because he knows what time it is.
My brother in law and I have this kind of thing. He’s legally blind and we’re into a lot of the same things (games and DnD and nerd stuff) and our running joke has become to ask “Mike, you see anything wrong with that?” And he just grins and says “na, I don’t see anything at all”. I thought my mother in law was going to shit herself last time I picked them up and handed him the keys like “yeah, you go ahead and drive, Mike, I’m gonna catch a nap.”
Coming from someone with a disability, something we hate is not being treated like a human being. We’re limited in what we can do of course we know that, but being pitied or people constantly tip toeing around sucks, just treat us like people, if something makes us uncomfortable or anything or you think it will just ask or we’ll tell you and we’ll move on.
That's so amazing, it's really cute but it's also kind of sad, I mean blind people are treated as if they have some sort of neurological problem, but it's not even that they're just a normal human being but stuck with a s*** outcome I don't understand why people try to Baby blind people cuz they're literally just other humans, that's like baby talking a little person by that point LMAO but just treat them like they're a normal person yeah they might need a little extra help getting around but they're still normal
