This is a great tutorial BUT... You need to explain how you have everything set up. Like for monitoring... How and where are your monitor speakers plugged in?
Just tried it with Protools and you do it the same way. The thing with Protools is that you first need to create a so called Aggregate Audio Device first (if you are on a MAC) you do this in the Audio Midi Setup application. When you done that you can do as in this video. You can check this link for more info at the fractal audio forum /Hasse
Hello! Nice video!! Quick question. How are the cables connected in the back and front of the axe fx? I would presume the guitar would go into the back, but what would you connect to the front instrument input?
Hi, nice video again :-) I have done this a couple of times before and always end up with the reamped track a bit out of sync every time when I use the USB reamping. Have you experienced the same thing? Also, do you need a FX block in your preset to get the clean tone? When I reamp with out the use of USB I know i need it. Regarding reamping in Protools I belive you do it the same why as in this video, I will do a test run and get back with an answer. /Hasse
Hi all, best tutorial I just need to understand last steps. Once I have choosed new sound from the axe, how you recorded in a new track? which input/output I have to select for that track? Could you explain your monitor configuration? thank you!
I am planning on buying an Axe FX II soon. In theory, would this work? Guitar to AXEFX guitar in. AXEFX out1 to 6i6 in3 which goes to main outs JUST to monitor processed tone for tracking. AXEFX usb to computer to DAW for only recording DI. Re-Amping: Set DAW DI track to send to spdif-out on 6i6... 6i6 spidif-out to AXEFX spdif-in... Apply tone. AXEFX spdif-out to 6i6 spdif-in. Set DAW to record 6i6 spdif-in which should be the processed AXEFX tone.
This is awesome, but would be even better if the "re-amp" part would affect only the dry track instead of the files. Any solutions on how to do that within Logic without additional hardware while still using the Axe FX as the audio interface?
Maldi Kellici I dont know exactly what you mean... you can always reamp in logic, but then you would have to use a plugin, which would not sound as good as using the axe FX
Bernd Kiltz Thnx for the reply Bernd. The issue is that when you reamp, it affects every track, not just the dry guitar track. That's why you mute certain tracks, right? It makes that hard to hear how the reamped track would sound in a mix, if you're doing tone building because all the other tracks go through the axe fx. Not sure if there's a way to set it up so that only the reamped tracks is affected by the Axe Fx.
Maldi Kellici You of course have to switch the track to solo, record it, and only then can you hear the whole mix. its much more complicated than with software... but thats the way it works only using the axe. You can reamp in other ways with an audio interface AND the axe fx, but that is much more complicated to set up. Search the Fractal Forums for "Analog reamping" - good luck :)
As the AXEFXII is fix on 48.000, you should have the project at 48.000 if you connect over USB. Otherwise you would have resampling and artifacts all over the place, not recommended - and I don't think it even works. I record with my SPL Crimson and connect the Axe over symmetrical cables (analog), if I am doing recordings. Best from Germany
i do not have the scarlet nor do i have pro tools - so that is not possible! Sould not be much different though, If you have the basics to pro tools down.
