Holy crap Batman. He actually made me laugh out loud when he said naughty region and drew it out like his body was a weather map on TV. Another well presented extremely valuable tip for everyone especially those of us with far less experience. Keep up the great work.
Seriously! I tend to not use my axe/hatchet that often because I favor my knife, but every time I grab my hatchet I realize that 80% of all my safety knowledge comes from some guy 200 miles south of me that I've never even met.
Wow, never would have thought of that. I actually do just the opposite 🥴, but not anymore. Thank you soooo so much for your excellent, most excellent tips and ooooh soooo important instructions.
Absolutely love your channel!! You’re an inspiration and outstanding instructor!! Love all your tutorials!! Any idea as to when your shovels will be back in stock? I’m getting ready to place an order!! Can you help me?!❤❤❤
Love your videos. I have taught this technique to cadets I have worked with on shelter building courses here in the UK. It's nice to pass on these skills to young people and try to keep them outdoors! 😊
Oh my gosh. I've been doing it wrong the entire time, cutting into the V where the small branch meet the bigger one. And I've been cleaning up limbs a lot lately. Yikes! At least I was being careful to cut in a direction away from myself. I am SO glad I watch this channel!! And the safety tips are awesome. Thanks, Dan, for yet another fantastic video! 👍
Gotta love how 'naughty bits' lives on decades past the Pythons and Benny Hill. Also, love these shorts that deal with safety. Will go out and practice these tomorrow.
Dam I thought you were going to make an axe from scratch, very disappointed. P.S. Thanks for the free pillow tip, got mine today and an intro to light gear from OV! Looks like they have really nice quality stuff.
THIS. Is a real useful and informative tip (lesson actually!) Good stuff bro. As usual 🙄. “No boring stuff to see here. Move along now (if you into boring stuff…”) 😆
Another point is to try to keep your swing consistent, just change the AOA (angle of attack) the position of your body in relation to the workpiece. If you keep your swing consistent there is less chance of missing or causing injury.
One can never focus enough and "re-learn" what we may have become complacent about. Axe head in quads'll make ya cry Any advice on refurbing a gum blanket I got from you? Has started flaking ...a lot. Sent question to site a few months ago but no response . It has not been stored incorrectly nor dried out or abused , but it makes a huge mess and mama ain't happy. Had shoulder replacement 11 wks ago so I'm about ready to rock again! Love the vids
I'm curious why you have an axe with a 'straight' edge instead of an axe with a more crescent blade? I was thinking an axe with a crescent blade might be more efficient as a hatchet, because you can also use it as a knifelikeblade?
Off topic of the video, with it now being spring, do you do anything to try and prevent tick bites? I know you have a video on tick removal, but was wondering what, if anything, you do to prevent ticks before they bite? Lots of deet? Permetherin? Just wondering what you find works best
What kind of axe was that? Looks exactly like my vintage 2.1 lb hults bruks agdor. I had it hung on a custom 22" handle so it can really do some work. But still make a great pack axe.
Great tip! Finally the first to comment 😆 after all these years! Thank you for all you do brother! I need a hat like that when do they come out? Another awesome video as always brother 👍 💪
With axes, hatchets, machetes, knives or any other blade it's always the same basic rule: don't be were the blade will be with any part of your body. Don't hold your firewood with your fingers when splitting it - that's a really stupid but common practice! Don't cut something towards you, don't cut over your leg. When splitting wood near the ground with a hatchet, kneel down. When doing it with an axe, use a chopping block. It all works well 500 times until that one evening when you're cold and tired and want that fire fast...
Could you post the link to your knife safety video in the comments, please? I'm a Cub Scout Den Leader, and next year, I'm leading the Bear Den. Which is when Cub Scouts are allowed to earn their whittling chip.
Ohhh Dear Lord,,,did you really have to explain how to trim limbs off the tree??? Couple cuts on knee cups, shins, toes,,,let people have real experience..Let’s say you have a child who wants to touch hot oven and you say don’t touch the oven but up to no avail..Nope,let them touch the oven once or twice and problem solved..So kids don’t do tobacco, alcohol or drugs it will bite your assets…
I subscribe to you, Coal, but your opener, for this video, was all wrong. You are an impressive dude, but, with this, I am not impressed. [I stopped @ 00:04 seconds] You have, half a million subscribers. You will not even see this comment but viewers, like me, will. Five hundred thousand, that is a lot of responsibility for someone who is supposed to be offering; safe, survivable instruction. 10,000 faithful viewers (2%) could lose an eye, trying to emulate you, with your hatchet trick. You're looking like a showboat to me. I could say it to your face. I am a 63 yr old retired carpenter and veteran in Canada. In that order. That was the most unsafe... I am lost for words and I'm sure that many feel the same. Let it reflect in likes or comments. Buddy! some people shave with their axes. Didn't care to see the rest of the video. Gonna hold the 'like' on this one, Coal. Still a subscriber in Ontario, Canada, take care all...
