There was a moment that Ginting cried after the match, when asked about his mother, turn out that his mom was on court on wheel chair and she's fighting cancer for these past 1,5 years😢. He must've struggle a lot, I'm glad that he can make it until now...
The Lee Zii Jia I know never quits.💯 His journey was a source of strength to never give up ! He will be back again soon smashing all the way. We got your back Zii Jia now have a good break mentally and physically and let's start fresh again ! Trust the process 💪
FYI, Lee zii jia new coach WTM is one of the former mentor/ head coach of ASY🇰🇷, i can say he played a very important role in build up the highest level of ASY right now
Thank u for your support towards LZJ, AA & HK ❤️❤️. This is really nice to see especially when Malaysian media going crazy putting him down at every single chance they got. I believe he will be back stronger than ever especially with the new coach onboard. Just fyi, coach Wong was in Korea coaching An Se Yong before joining Hong Kong. I've always enjoyed TBE keep it up guys!!
Momota mention in one of his interviews that he sees doube vision after the accident in malaysia, maybe he can't pre-read his opponent's swing now like he used to. Before his accident he could almost predict and prepare in the right direction for his opponent's smash or drop but now has to react after his opponent move, hence requires more energy consumption. Can do a few push ups during matches in the past but now sweating in court more than he used to.
@james1274 Momota holds the World Genius Record for most titles won in a season. 11 World tour titles in 2019 at age 25. Not forgetting he also won World Championship twice before age 25.
@@meetiong8215 of course, but you mentioned GOAT, means u are expecting him to win at least 2 Olympic gold and 5 world titles had he not gotten into the accident
@@meetiong8215 Momota is ranked at most 6/7 place on the all time list in my books Lin Dan Axelsen Chen Long Taufik Hidayat LCW Momota Momota can be ranked ahead of LCW in terms of achievements, but not skills
We have seen so many achievements by Kento over the years totally agree that everyone still believe he can win but somehow keep ended up loosing at the first round recently. Hopefully he can find his way back again.. and of course it was good to see Anders did well in Singapore hopefully more good results will follow with the hard work. Also nice to see Hans at Indonesia Open last week. Great episode👏
Love this episode, so much insights you both have given and the behind the scenes of players about the struggles they’ve been through. Well done guys❤️
On this tournament, the most point earned by Victor's opponent in 1 match was Prannoy with 21-15 & 21-15, meanwhile Chou Tien Chen earned the least and the most point in each game with 21-5 in first game & 21-19 in second game. What a beast!
I just know Zii Jia is definitely burnt out because of the constant pressure from his country since he is the only one that has a chance to win the Olympics after LCW, every tournament that he loses is another wave of toxic comments from Malaysians, so I can understand his predicament. He's spending time with his family right now, my schoolmate is actually one of Zii Jia's family members and he says he's doing well mentally and just needs some rest and time with family for him to be able to come back. Hopefully he comes back soon because he is one of the most fun players to watch.
i love you guys! HK your Ginting RIP gesture made u even more a legend than u are already. So happy to see AA back on track. Maybe i missed it but i think worth mentioning is Carolina beeing back beating Akane!!! after her long injury. That is just badass best from Germany
Regarding Lee Zii Jia, he seems to be similar to Loh Kean Yew, they show flashes demonstrating utter brilliance/dominance, but seem to lose focus or not bring that same level consistently Loh is sooo quick with his footwork and strong, but appears too relaxed and passive for my liking. Maybe he's too nice a guy 😊 Lee is the hardest smasher, most powerful and very intense. But perhaps he burns out too quickly with this style Maybe we need to squish both players together to make a super player! 😂
Momota mentioned in one of his interview with Jinnai saying that he had lost the desire, he's not longer excited to play badminton, it's painful for him. Momota had recovered fully from the orbital eye socket injury unfortunately mentally he's squashed
Nice to see how HK acknowledges the nice playing style of Lin Chun Yi. I saw him play at the finals of the Belgian International and I have to admit that he plays very smoothly.
I was surprised you guys didn't touch on Marcus and Kevin. But over all great episode, can't wait for more. And I still believe mamota can make a comeback!
Kento Momota's perspective on life has changed for sure due to that car crash he was in. We are all human at the end of the day & that type of event is simply too big to not have impacted him mentally. I agree with all the other comments here that there is most likely also something affecting his health, his physical health, also impacted by the accident. It's incredibly sad, as someone else that travelled in that vehicle passed away. (the driver if I am not mistaken) Dealing with survivor's guilt also is physiologically draining. Momota himself might be in a place still where he himself can't talk about it yet, so healing takes time. While our minds are extremely powerful & as athletes we must be extremely strong, this type of event is extreme. It's not something we know how to deal with 💯. Also, if there are physical ramnifications from the accident, that's a lot of mind space on top of everything else. While it is sad, it's also given Momota a different kind of appreciation for life & hopefully he will be able to use it somehow in the future perhaps in ways we yet can't tell.
Really appreciate this podcast. Antonsen & Vittinghus, you guys are good men, though you didn't win against Ginting, to me, you give comment that can improve ginting's performance. I Ginting really needs to see this.
Momota's anticipation was his strength. And he making anticipated. So he can makes lifts little early before player get base position after every shot. He grinding each and every point like this. And he is not looking for winning. Je looking for every point. And getting prepared for every service. Now these all not working like he planned. Nobody allowed him to anticipated. I hope momota will back. Bhe shows some flashes of him. Only one thing he should improve is forehand side chase attack. He is little slow here. Young players good at that. He must focus on thos chase. Must do alot jumping workouts similar to volleyball players. I suggests two workouts for him 1)boxing 2)box jump(try to achieve the world record. Keep this aim in every box jump workout). Old momota preparing for every points mentally and physically.
I feel like now we have finally found our real top 3 in the MS world… World number 2 is Ginting and Number 3 is Kunlavut… I think those two recently have stepped up a gear comparing to the others by some margin…
Great Podcast Guys! 👍 I think VA more prone to long rally players like kodai, kunlavut and also prannoy, thats why Ginting is having a tough time every time he faces VA because he's naturally attacking player therefore takes more punishment from VA defenses and his consistent lifts. Agreed 100% with AA that these previous loses is actually manifesting in Ginting's attack when he's playing against Axelsen. He should just let it all out, don't need to think too much and play all out his attacking game. That way we'll have even more magnificent entertaining match 😜
i know this might be unrelated to the podcast, but I would like to know your insights as to why Kento Momota isnt entering more competitions to boost his rankings? He did it after his 2016 suspension, slowly rose up the ranks by entering small comps. Why cant he do the same again to have a chance at rebuilding his confidence? I find it counterintuitive that he isnt joining more comps when he is behind 3 compatriots. Take this week's Taipei Open for instance; he isnt there but his other teammates are. Could he possibly be bound by sponsors to only be able to partake in bigger events, or could it be his national team restricting him in some ways?
@@melonusk6120 which in of itself is counterintuitive? If he misses 2 or 3 comps, only to be ousted in the 1st rnd of a comp he joins, wouldnt it be btr for to join smaller comps and at least progress further for more match exposure? Getting one match per 3 weeks wont help him much imo
He was entered into Thailand and Singapore Open but withdrew from both due to back injury, which also explains why his performance in Indonesia Open being lacklustre. He is likely not ready for the tournament. This back injury has been haunting him since late 2021 where he sustained it during the match against Kanta Tsuneyama. He was forced to play in pain due BWF rule of retiring against his own countrymen would lose him points. However, not qutting earlier proved to be catastrophic, as not long after, he had to withdraw from WC, and when he came back in 2022, he was no longer the same. Momota car accident is the much more well known incident and it did kickstart his misfortune, but his lesser known back injury is likely the bigger cause of his poor performance thereafter, and it would explain why he did not join as many tournaments as his compatriots.
It's really sad to see Kento Momota like this. I think he's lost his confidence. Possibly still grappling with issues after the trauma of the unfortunate road traffic accident in Malaysia a few years back. I hope he finds his way back for at least one last hurrah.
The Malaysia incident (that he is not fully recovered from in both mental and physical states since it came at a very annoying timing right before Olympics). Momota promising career has been filled with disruptive events that mentally were too much to handle. The gambling punishement involving his friend Tago Kenishi, the malaysia car accident where he witnessed death up close since the driver was killed but also permanently affected his vision, then the covid lockdowns started. Eyesight issues cannot be fixed with trainning. Something not mentioned but the retirement of the big legends LCW / LD might have also contributed to his demotivation on the world tour. With so much going on you start to question the life path and wonder if something else is planned for you by the universe and God-Source. I don't think He even have spiritual grounding, this is the thing you need to overcome the life odds and stay motivated. Momota stand out asset was his anticipation coupled with a pristine touch at the net that made him an annoying monster of defense, you can see how much the lost his 'spider-sense' impact his game. He is not only unable to read the shots but has to deal with distracting visual feedback
Regarding Momota, from my point of view, the mens single play style has changed so much in the past 3 years post covid. Now its much more fast, explosive and everybody seems to have levelled up their play. And it simply doesnt suit with Momota play style where he likes patient rally style, good footwork, and he relies on his good quality strokes to get points. He was never known for having very hard smash, and his footwork seems to be very heavy (slow) nowadays.
Wang Tzu Wei just reach the quarterfinal of Tapei Open after beating chi yu jen from Tapei. Tommorow up against Lin Chun Yi from Tapei who just beat CTC. Interesting match to see where Wang Tzu Wei can perform his best tommorow
Momota having trouble physically I loved when you guys detailly talked about Ginting vs Axelsen , mentally and technically.. How about Rajawat, do you think he is good enough?
For momota it’s I think there are many areas which he has not been doing so well like the past such as the the attack and defend and the speed that he have in the past which I think could affect his mental and confidence. However his net and skills are still there.
Mr. Momota had this perticular incident in the past. It had immediate impact on him physically and most likely psychologically. Best thing to do would be to invite him on.
what do you think of Kenta momota, why is he not consistent right now? 2 years back he was playing in another level like viktor right now, i think he is strugling to retrive cross slice smash and the unpredictibility, because his strength is the defence, and players realised and starting to do varation in attack and they could gain the points against him. please share your thoughts on it.
In my opinion, WS and XD can be more realistic... For WS, I think ASY for Gold, Akane Yamaguchi for Silver and Chen Yufei for Bronze. TTY will lose to any of the three of them. For XD, I think Zheng Huang for Gold, Kim Jeong for Silver and Watanabe Higashino for Bronze. Popor Bass will lose to any of the three of them, Kim Jeong will beat Watanabe Higashino. Just my opinion, not offending anyone...🙏
Too early bro and you can't underestimate Ginting as you know if he plays at his best and gets a good draw then he will for sure win silver and the only player who Ginting can't defeat is Axelsen
Kento looks like he doesn't have the motivation anymore to put in the hard work. His shot quality and speed is not comparable to before. And I totally understand it. After being the best of the best for so long, not really playing to your standard can be a tough pill to swallow.
Great episode. Love listening to them. I have a question regarding Danish Olympic Qualification. Obviously Anders you now are training away from the national team, but Gemke is still there. Let’s say both you and Gemke make the top 16, the national federation picks who play thee Olympics. Do you think you’ll be at a disadvantage due to not being in the team vs Gemke who is? I’m English and I know Greg and Jenny have just had problems with European games selection. The selectors picked Marcus and Lauren due to them being national team and Greg and Jenny not. Also back during Rio qualification. Marcus and langridge didn’t get picked despite them qualifying higher than Ben and Sean at the time.
Just one qtn. Why is it that these days opponent seems to be able to come back from being very far behind. For example i could be leading say 18-12. But the opponent can just cone back. This seem be happening very frequently. Also Anders, what happened that caused kodai to actually win the first set after being so far behind
really hopes that somehow kento momota can regain his consistency and reach the olympics (and hopefully at least win a medal). that guy has been through a lot 🥲
I think kento needs to change his play style bcs in past his defence was like an iron wall but nowadays everyone else has level up their attacks which makes long rallies and defensive play that Kento preferred to be not as effective as it was previously.
Momota may still be affected by both the gambling controversy in his life (mental) and also the car crash (mental and physical). He looks like he doesn't have the same desire to win, does not believe in himself anymore. The hunger needs to return. It would be great to see him push really hard to qualify for the Olympics as I think he missed out before due to being suspended?
antonsen please tell us in the next video why you have not been using smashing like you used to, notice you are doing more controls now. its a pity as your smashing equals Victor's but we dont get to see very often nowadays.
Yeah Ginting really suit to be number 2 ... But is that only me or not... I think his mental is not enough strong.. he such like having trauma when facing Shi Yu Qi and Viktor that restrain himself
why dont players have more advertisments on their uniforms from big brands like mcdonals and so on ? who pays for the flight and hotels you guys travel too ? olympics is anyones guess , its who ever is on top of their game at that period of time is going to win.
I think after the accident, Momota's brain cant set badminton to be the highest goal in life anymore, in your subconsious perspecitves do change after traumatic experiences,..well that is the only explanation I have !
To me Kento Momota has lost his passion for badminton, it is not a lack of skill or anything else, i think after the accident he had he just can't find maybe the motive anymore
