Great Review, You give such thorough information and comprehensive pro's and cons. I do not think anyone does as complete a review as you all do. Thank you for great information and another great video. 👍👍👍👍👍
Right on. Really appreciate it. We strive hard to find strengths and weaknesses so we can provide value and steer folks towards the right purchase for them. This was an impressive effort from Axial and that is so good for the industry!
The good news is.... we'll get better with each video. We look back to our first one 200 videos ago, and although crude and simple, we still agree with what we said.
I really like this guy! He’s so up front with us. Very knowledgeable. I enjoy rc review the most and Holmes hobbies next. I don’t care for Harley designs.
Lil bit of weight down low and a spring change should be wonderful. I've been waiting for your review before I push the button. Thanks so much!! Cant wait to see it with a full set of hyrax!!
Great insight, so thank you. Love the weaknesses section since that's where I seem to learn the most about the rig. Maybe do another video comparing it the other portal rigs. Also do a video on the DIG operation and when and where it makes a difference. If it's so good, not sure why no one offers it in a kit or RTR. It seems its time was when the steering radius on crawlers was awful, about a decade ago. But I would like to learn and your channel allows that.
I own an scx10ii, bomber , wraith, wromber.....and this is the most interesting kit I’ve seen from axial in forever....maybe since the Bomber was released? I’m gonna have one, hobbywing 1080, a cheap amazon servo and a Holmes Hobbies crawlmaster.
I have a ladore but it is a horror has assembled electronics no place for cables lol on st three friends quite ahead in rc and we can not operate the dig correctly especially the freewheel rear mode personally uses a dx5 ruggued but jsrrive to adjust the servo microphone. I missed screws as well in the box and the difficult wheels of the tiller that do. I had to put the original ceix. I also use a 2300kv axle and I try rockbeast xor pitbull and I do not find them agripant to compare min trx sport hyraxes. but by the way, my most successful crawler out of the box.im use savox sa 1231sg with and is a beast lol because the micro servo don’t accept the hi voltage not a lot of choice for servo
Will probably buy it when the spring comes. Would go brushed, hobbywing 1060 Esc and a traxxas 20t stinger motor I have laying around. If its to fast and power consuming I will get a 35 or 45t
Lets just be blunt and say right now, Axial has the best crawler in the game. RIGHT NOW. Traxxas has been goin for the throat with their TRX4 sport and TRX6 releases. I'll be curious to see if Traxxas has an answer for the Capra. because I can't imagine it being done better, but if it can be, Traxxas will do it. And no I'm not a Traxxas fanboy, I don't even own a traxxas crawler, but gotta give credit where it's due.
I was waiting for good review of the Capra. Thanks you. I just finished putting mine together over the weekend. Still have not crawled with it. I would like to see some metal parts come out for this soon. I think there is potential to make it better by adding weight down low on those axles. Also the servo mount could be bit stiffer. You guys should get some SSD wheels on it.
Great review, really enjoyed the running video. Its a nice rig for sure. My thought... I'm going to stick with my scale trail rigs (TRX4 Sport and Defender, Axial UMG10, Honcho, Wrangler) and go next with a comp crawler. I'd like to see what develops in the "Capra" segment from other manufacturers. Very tempting though.
Great review! Great insight on everything too. Picking mine up tomorrow. The RTR apparently comes with LED headlights too. At least that's how Hobbytown and Horizon are showing it🤷♂️.
I'm about to watch everyone get a Capra - EXCEPT ME, *not because I don't want one.* It seems to be the best Rig that Axial has made since the XR10 - the original Super Comp Crawler. Frankly, I can't wait to see those Portals on a UMG10!! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
I'm still trying to decide between this and the new Axial Bomber RR10 V2.0. Im coming from a TRX4 and fairly new to this hobby.. I know both the Bomber and the Capra are totally different, one being a rock racer and the other rock crawler. Your video has pulled me towards the Capra more but wish to make the right decission. BTW, thank you for your content! 🙂 fully subscribed now!
Very nice review. To address the too tall situation, I did place 8mm plastic spacers on the shafts inside the shocks to bring overall lengths down to 90 mm long. That basically made the lower links parallel to the ground. Needed to sand a minor amount of flashing off of the shock pistons to eliminate stiction with the shock bodies...Now have smooth action. Waiting for my electronics to complete the build. Went with Reefs servos. Do you consider the Hobbywing Axe/2300 to be the ultimate brushless setup?
Love my Capra! Running Rock Beasts 4.55 (soon to be XL size), aluminum wheels, Axe 2300kv, Savox 1210sg and Desert Lizard 100mm w/50wt oil , and I love the performance! Now I have to get parts to put my Enduro builder's kit back together since I stole everything for the Capra.
@@davidspinney7344 I like it a lot. It sits level links normally, but can articulate slightly more than stock, side hills better, and seems more stable in the droop setup. To be honest, I've only taken it out a few times, but 'am already impressed. I'll be keeping them on for awhile as I tune them to this chassis.
@@RCReviewChannel Springs are the lightest (in droop) so large spring under piston and small light spring above piston. 50wt to slow transition. Links sit level. Works great!
making a 4wd into a Front Wheel drive is not the main use of a dig. yes it can, but that is only needed in certain crawling spots where pulling the rear up will help you keep the line. Mostly the dig is made to lock the rear end to drag it around so you can move the front.
@@RCReviewChannel I just started making videos, mainly trail rides! It's a lot of fun, haven't done a review as of yet but maybe one day! Watched your review with the rtr 4runner! I just picked one up after watching and finding one!!! 😁👌
Canyon tires in the rear and Hyrax in the front is like "overdrive" because the canyons slip more ha ha! Please make all your next driving test (every crawler) on this amazing terrain!!
Well, it looks like no one's gonna build/give me a kit so this one is going on my list for kits that the Wife can try some day. Thanks for sharing this!👌😎😍 Saved video so I can have the extras list.
Really nice video as usual. I decided to get a TRX4 after watching your first review. I've seen several videos about the new Axial Capra and until now, I've not seen the pros and cons so well explained. Thanks for that. My TRX4 with a 2s 5000mAh battery lasts around 2 hours crawling and trailing and I was wondering how much time you can run that Capra with that configuration. Thanks in advance
Great choice on the TRX4. That is a crazy realistic and expandable platform and you'll have years of fun with it. So the Capra run time will be identical to the TRX4 since the weight and speeds are about the same. The Capra battery compartment is small so only a 3000 mah battery will fit, max. So that is 40% less run time than a 5000. A brushless system is more efficient since there's less friction and power loss. It adds about 30% more run time if driven at similar speeds.
Glad I could help. That's our main goal. Guide folks and give them a better idea for a decision. Too many out there just read the box features or give glowing accolades.
Well, I just purchased a Captra, great Black Friday special....question is, is the Brushless motor and Esc you used still your choice for an sorta EZ swap considering the stick skid plate....
Good review as usual. But I think is not equal to compare models with a realistic bodyshell with this category of almost "only chassis" vehicle. We think is completely another category, beautiful, high performing, but another story ! Even getting off bodyshell from any Axial or Traxxas vehicle...changes dramatically its performance to a really higher level. Some times ago I have seen a world crawling champion vehicle: it was 4 wheels some links and a square box in the center...for sure it was a really good crawler, but it was not something related with real world vehicles...!
Looks cool, the 'dig' transmission seems largely pointless to me. Front axle overdrive a la Element Enduro, or a locking/unlocking front diff a la TRX4 is much more useful. At least if you had RWD only, you could drift it around. Front wheel drive? Nah...
It seems like its biggest benefit today is dragging the rear down really steep descents. One can control and change position better. Steering radius is a plus too but these vehicles turn so well now.
Have you ever had a correctly working dig. Best option axial could have gone with. Not just turning but climbing. When you learn to use it it will get you a lot farther
another great video bro, one thing bug's me thou, why do you dislike the wraith 1.9 so much?? i absolutely love mine and as a matter of fact it walks all over my trx4 sport, it even rock crawls better than my bomber, the damn thing is like a spider;) i can't wait to get a capra and do some comparison's of my own, it will def. be a good time. thanx for your insight and keep up the good work!
It just didn't do well in any of our test courses. It performed like a deadbolt for us. For the price, the plastic shocks, dogbones, plastic links, high CG, steering radius were not quite there. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O3ksmXloXo0.html Still had fun though and we hammered out an amazing alloy body for it.
Really nice looking truck . I would love to see a comparison between the 4 portal trucks . I'm in the market for a new truck and am in love with the portal gen7 I have built. So my new truck will definitely be a portal truck .
$169NZD plus postage for 1 micro servo? You can get a RTR Crawler for that price! $523.36NZD for the kit sounds reasonable but then you add $697.66NZD for electronics etc for a grand total of $1221.02NZD without shipping costs!??! but for $170NZD you can get a transmission & a dig transmission with servo! & make your own rig do everything the Capra does! to me it's a no brainer eh' Jezz Axial use to be know for low cost rc's but times have changed sadly.......................
Did you notice any rubbing between wheels and portal covers? I saw some people complaining that stock wheels are rubbing at portal covers and need to remove some material from portal covers to solve the issue.
Would be great if you can try out the capra with some 2.2 tires. I know the capra is not made for bashing but how fast is it with the 2300kv hobbywing?
2300kv is fast, but 2.2 tires look a little silly on it. Follow the Capra group on Facebook as there is a picture thread with people putting on 2.2s and a big portion going back to 1.9.
@@trailcrawler2038 yes some of them look silly. Found another one with 2.2 hyrax and i think they fit real good. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kfMcA74EXzA.html&t=
What type of wheels can I fit the Capra I got metal weighted wheels for my enduro but when I put them on the Capra the inside rubs like the hex inside the wheel is to short I notice with the stock Capra wheels the hex is out more
using the red springs that come in the kit my links are parallel to the ground. i really don't understand what it is people are doing with their shocks that it's leaving their capras so tall..
We are very far from level on the red springs. Are you pushing the vehicle down? Make sure you're just letting it sit on its own weight and settle. What is your motor/esc/battery?
@@RCReviewChannel not pushing it down at all, im running a mamba x/slate combo, gens ace adventure 3600 battery, 35wt shock oil (for now) front and rear, also zero preload, no limiters or anything either. built per manual spec
Hi Frances Where can I find more information about the modified Enduro Sendero on small tyres? Is it standard ride height with 1.9 wheels and 1.55 tyres? Many thanks in advance Kip
I heard you a few times talking about the hyrax. You seem to think hyrax are better then cut Traxxas canyon trail? Are they the best of all in your opinion?
For where we crawl, Hyrax is best in predator compound. We like the steep rocks and loose. The Traxxas Canyon Trail is decent and seems to be the best RTR tire around. It can be improved quite a bit by switching to softer foam and cutting and opening up the tread pattern and siping it. Video howto here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OziJKOmZHfc.html
Working on it. We'll have all the numbers too. The stock soft ones are way too hard (red). The purple ones on this link is what we'll try. www.amainhobbies.com/search?s=capra+springs
So.. I wonder what the next 2.2.. rig .. Going to look like and. Is it Traxxas, or axial II,... Element RC! 6X6🤔OR .. Traxxas. Straight axil crawler would be cool 🤗.. too..
Get this one or the Element RC Enduro. You'll be stoked with either one. Just a question of whether you want one that's hard to work on and look like a buggy but ultimate performance or one that looks like a truck (element rc) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BNQrn40M4lc.html
No, what we meant is our beadlock wheels that had hyrax wheels would not fit on those portals. The Axial portals are incompatible with a lot of beadlock wheels since they are so big.
@@RCReviewChannel Thanks Francis. I'm thinking of swapping my stock Gen 8 springs for these... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FS896JZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Do you think I should, or stick with what I have?
I would use a Holmes Hobby brushed, 35turn 540. The best that you can afford from their line since this vehicle does not allow the bigger 550 can. Hobbywing 1040 ESC is the key.
Nice video...you need to learn how to use the dig. There was 5 or 6 times the dig would have just pulled the rig up. I have ran 2.2 and supers for years so it's just my natural way I drive.
The 45 degree turning radius gets no tighter when locking the diff lol, maybe the turning radius in general but no the 45 degrees doesn’t not get fighters hahahaha
Make an RTR and I'll purchase Axial as well as figure a way to use my Traxxas batteries and charger. I have neither the patience, know-how or build facilities for a 'Kit'. If Traxxas comes up with something similar first they'll get my money, again.
RC Review , no personal experience with it but everything I’ve seen and read about it seems like it’s a good/capable product. It would be interesting to have an honest review of the two...and that’s what you do.
I LOVE YOUR REVIEW AND TIPS BUT MAN YOU GOT TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE MUSIC IN YOUR VIDEO IT NOT FITTING YOUR STYLE OFF VIDEO AND IT S MAKING ME WANNA QUIT WATCHING BUT I LIKE THE VIDEO SO I KEEP WATCHING BUT WITH NO SOUND AND I MISS WHAT YOU SAY PLEASE STOP IT THANK.YOU KEEP ON GOIN BUT NO MUSIC 👍👍
