Axial Capra with Traxx! Can They Rock Crawl???

The Traxxas Traxx are an interesting option available as an upgrade, but can they improve performance on the rocks? Today I bring two rear steer brushless crawlers to see how they perform compared to a Capra with tires on it.

I see where this would be an experiment, i was curious as to how this would work as well. Funny thing is the tracks are usually meant for snow, but tracks of this style tend not to do well there either, they sink almost as bad as tires. They need to be wide, kinda the same principle as snowshoes. Good vid Logan, wifes a great driver too

Yeah they definitely need to be really wide and have scoops/paddles for the snow. Otherwise they're basically longer contact patch tires.

This is hilarious. Traxx on my rear steer could be fun in the Wisconsin winter, but theyre expensive for one season.

Adjust your steering end points on your transmitter to limit your servo travel.

I have a TRX 4 sport with traxx and its very fun in snow, mud, loose dirt or just trail driving, pretty much anything but rock crawling. It's definitely not a technical crawler...but lots of fun just off road...

You shouldn't have had to drill out anything to mount to the portal box. All I did on my Capra was use a longer portal case cover screw with a washer. I did the deep Traxx on my brushless capra though. Video coming soon on my channel 🤙

Really like to see this one. Looks fun. I wonder about the cog though. The way logan builds his rigs will help with it, but will it be enough? Go logan!

To me, tracks are just a novelty, really no point. Good on sand or snow but so is a wide tire. Don't get me wrong, totally cool looking and they are a lot of fun, just not practical. Fun watching someone else trying to get them to hook up, though, lol! Enjoyed the video 👍

trax are for snow. honestly dont know what else they could be ok at doing but they surely aren't for V notches or rocks in general LOL fun to watch either way.

Can you show me more about how you attached the trax? I want to do it for fun for this winter… I got brass knuckles might have to drill some brass! And a standard rear axle.

I think the trax have too much surface area which means less pressure on the ground. Same thing that makes them work on snow makes them slip on rocks. You can see how they grip better on the edges but not so much on the big flat area.

Hey Tyson You may be able to replace those tracks if you can find a tire that is a good compound with at the right diameter cut it up to fit if that would be worth doing.

Some one would have to offer a track that had predator compound or something. The traxxas compound is terrible for traction. But they have to be tough not to slip.

This is nuts! Great work! I'm curious if it's just the compound that's really holding them back, or just the design of the tracks? I'm assume they'll never be good as a traditional tire, but I wonder if a better compound would see a significant improvement.

Have my tracks for snow only. Haven’t found any benefit over a good tire besides in the snow.

Even on snow a 4 or 5 psi tire does better, in Antarctica the use giant tires with very little inflation not tracks for the most part.

you ever try to drive a snowmobile up a ramp? its not as straightforward as it seems and can be tricky. the same thing happens with these tracks. they dont flex like tires, at all. your giving up so much traction with tracks when trying to crawl with them. the compound doesnt help. 5:22 front driver is a perfect example

Tracks dont work good on hard surface. I tested tracks on my Sport also with the traxx with more "bite" even on snow i prefer bigger tires . But in the mud they work very well.

Well Ding Dong you lived up to your name and proved Harley right on how tracks are worthless on rocks. I chuckled when I saw the thumbnail and new it would be entertaining to watch. I have a 51 ounce RTR Axialfest Class Two legal flat rail Jeep that I could send you to test drive. I built it as a hold me beer I could do this better than a You Tube influencer who built a superlight on his channel. let me know if you are interested. This rig will never see terrain like what you have. Ken
