I believe they are actually selling it as an axle kit for belly draggers seeing how the gspeed chassis and a few others are basically built to accept axial hardware. Plus option for stock rigs. 🤷♂️
That's actually bad packaging come to think of it. Have a bunch of extras underneath the foam in the box. Hope not too many people miss the extra goodies.
RC Review, WOW nice Axle conversion kit there Sir. Clearance loss from the diff but, More scale looking. What a difference it will make when climbing the rocks. A before action and after axle swap action is needed for me to be sold on buying that kit. I do like the kit and I think you're right about it being a great kit to add to a new build. Cog will defiantly change. Thank you for sharing. - Gary
This will work for folks who have smoother and steep terrain. Clearance usually comes at the cost of high CG. Also, many low CG chassis folk want an option like this.
Hahahahahahaha awesome you said a dirty word!!!! I agree with you that announced products and being able to purchase so far apart is lame. Also, not producing enough product to sell. So everthing is always sold out with months of waiting for it to come back in stock
It's an old marketing trick to hype and build up demand. Good for the manufacturer but terrible for the consumer. Many industries are abandoning it. If you announce it, folks should be able to order same day.
amazing though, why not offer it on a rtr and have that choice. They really taking your money after you buy a rtr then get this kit. Maybe if you build something custom axles are nice for that. Just the price is a down side is all. I am glad they do offer it but dang they get ya.
From what was hinted in an online interview. It will happen in a kit or RTR. 2020 just slowed or stopped a lot of Axial's plans.. The Ryft project started before Horizon bought out Axial to give prospective. Cheers mate 👍
You could sell the portals for close to the cost of the his kit. I expect Axial will eventually release a kit or RTR of the 10.3 with the straight axles as well.
After your videos of this and Matt from SBG I decided to order the Wrangler JL kit and the straight axle kit. I should have done it back when the price dropped down to $100 for the axle kit
First, everyone asked for portals for the scx10 ... When one comes out with them ... People ask for conventional axles .. 😳 ... Do we really know what we want ??
Love my portals... Doubt I'd go back to straights as I love to cheat. hehehe .. Steering angles are the limiting factor but you know... We are so lucky ATM with Crawler Tech... and Axial are really doing it right.. Traxxas has their TRX-4 and that's been such an epic platform. Why we'd go back to straight axles...I dunno?... Wait... just saw the shocks... You're sending me broke Francis...hahahaha Awesome review mate... as always!
Just picked up a kit for the wife’s SCXIII. Making it to match her 1:1 Rubicon and for some reason axial made the diff covers different on the straight axles. I had bought SSD brass diff covers thinking they would be the same BUT nope.🙄🤦🏻♂️
the links included are the rear upper, however if you are putting it on the gladiator you use the stock links. the shocks dont come with any oil in them. also one other thing to note is 12mm hex spacers dont work with it or at least the front axle.. if you want wheel offset you either have to get a good offset on the wheel or use the vanquish spacers that fit over the stock 12mm hex. but it is an awesome looking kit on my gladiator for a good scale look and still crawls like a beast
Try finding SCX10 III portal axle takeouts on eBay, one seller that has a lot of good stuff and reliability is JennysRC (I got TRX-4 shocks for my Redcat Scout II from them)
I think they should have designed them in way you could convert Portals to straight. This is a whole kit diff gears and shafts makes the price shoot up. If you look on market as complete kit they are actually cheap but for add on to existing SCX10.3 its pricey.
It’d be cool to have a portal conversion kit for the older SCX10 versions, but at the same time you most likely can find portal axle takeouts on eBay from the RTR SCX10 III also 🤷♂️
Another fine video. Well done. I’m interested in building a cheater rig with these axles. Are these new straight axles better than the SCX10 ii axles? What are the differences between the old and the new?
@@OldMan4of4 Actually, one significant difference between these SCX10-III straight axles and the SCX10-II axles is that the pumpkin on the front axle is moved from the center to driver's side...A significant plus.
Lol 190$ after shipping pointless the whole reason to buy 10.3 is for portals unless u had one rig and we're trying to have strait axles cus ur at a comp that is strait axles only that's the only reason I could see buying this product for a 10.3
His video didn't really explain that point well.. the kit includes everything to make a 10iii correct on straight axles... -Ride height... new shocks -Steering... new links and panhard mount -Gearing.... new ratio gear set for transmission -And of course the new axles Cheers 👍
Why would you want strain axles instead? Just curious. I’ve never really had any crawler other than my gladiator. Just curious what the advantages and disadvantages are.
None available. It's part of the problem where they announce and hype 1-2 months in advance, give to partners but no consumer can buy it. I have it backordered.
@@RCReviewChannel I know right... so far I have only seen "RC Spark", "Harley Design" and "Racing on the rock" who actually have the Axial Ryft with them for the reviews. London, it will be in stock on 27th Jan 2021, can't wait. Very good looking rig, I will get the black version as orange colour looks like toys with the underbelly parts in orange. My plan is to rip out the guts and replace with Hobbywing Fusion and convert it to a slow crawler, I just love the FOC slow crawl function. What do you think Francis? Is my plan a waste of the Ryft?
Kinda nuts someone would buy an SCX10III and then buy the straight axle kit. It’s a much better deal to buy a $200 SCX10II builders kit. Heck, if you really want a forward motor mount buy the SSD Trail King which is basically a SCX10 with forward motor mount, better shocks and metal pivot balls
I don’t see a big upgrade over AR44’s, I guess. The truss, some stiffness? Doesn’t the lower gearing kinda mess up pairing it with a non-scx10iii transmission?
If you want an axial vehicle without portals they make three or four of them. if you buy a vehicle with portals it's because you want the ground clearance of the portals in gear reduction. not because you want to go spend $170 to switch it over for a scale look. And then at the end he shows a video of a scx10 3 with portal driving around 🙄.
Nothing is impossible. But as the front axle has offset pumkin the umg10 Ar44 axle won't work in the 10iii. The portals should be fairly easy into the umg10 though, just links for steering I would think. Cheers👍
I am new to trail crawlers. Every review video and test out there said portals were the way of the future, rigs without were looked down on. I don't get why someone would make this conversion.
They don't come with portals in real life. Some people want a more realistic feel and to not dominate every obstacle. It becomes more about the driver capabilities and not the truck.
@@cool.stuffs yea its all about bashing to me i dont get into all that scale stuff i could care less about what it looks like to me rc are to go have fun with i just watched a vid the other day where the guy said if it dont come with portals its old and out dated but to each there own but to me its a downgrade the should of kept straight axles and sold a updated portal kit think it would of made them more money they should offer the 10.3 in straight or portal versions i feel
Why are you calling it straight axle conversion ? It has straight axles already. You mean standard axle conversion . Straight axles don’t move independently , so both stock and standard axles are straight.
@@weridebikes1000 first off who u calling kid. Ima grown man been in rc for years and when I see a waste of money believe I’ll let it be known regardless if it’s his money or not
@@semsterrc5099 "ur" a grown man trying to tell another grown man in America how to spend his $. Then fighting about it on youtube... Think about it lol
It could be nice if you can donate at least one of your cool rc cars to me. I'm from south Africa. And all this cool stuff is not available in my country
Well that was the biggest waste of time and money. Why would you take portals out of something. To put straight axles underneath it. For a scale look😆by one of the other four axial Jeep platforms that don't have portals. they've got the ar-60 the ar-44 the ar-45 take your pick. the video of the scx10 3 you showed at the end. Has portal axles underneath it sir. you showed the wrong vehicle 🙄
Ok, if you want it to be scale, but other than that, Why??? $170 to down grade an RC truck. Whatever. Yep, when you turn a baby over, that's what you'll usually see. S@$&. lol
No it's the downgrade. why would you put straight axles, underneath a vehicle with portals. To make and look scale. Counterproductive by one of the other three axial platforms that don't have portals
