Really, really appreciate the honesty and the time taken to get the real issues. So tired of fanboy "reviews". Thanks for saving me $500+. This was going to be my Axial comeback vehicle.
I must have got a good one I have had zero problems and I have put miles on mine it dominates my course and I have done hill climbs tree climbing and tryed to make it a submarine so impressed hope it continues to preform probably my favorite in my fleet at the moment great video ✌🏻👍🏻😎😁
I'd argue NO mainstream crawler so far on the market is under-powered. Compared to REAL rock crawlers, these things are insane for tq/weight ratios! I have been demanding my friends and I all run in the TRX-4 practice mode or low voltage safe mode even so that we have very little power and have to use REAL WORLD technique not just stomping on endless power. Sure there are some incredible machines out there 1:1 now these days but for the most part, when you go out in the your Jeeps and Yotas, you won't be stomping the throttle to the ground when you crawl, unless you want to replace axles and parts often. Instead you go slow and use finesse, it's a lot more enjoyable honestly. I'd like to see that direction be supported for "crawlers" since they are meant to "crawl"! If I had my way, I'd program in a ramp up hp feature that would essentially make the power come on slower and build like real engine does instead of a instant TQ electric motor.
Perhaps. But if companies are going to add two tires, an axle and a whole bunch of weight to an existing vehicle, bump up the power or at least give the option for the user to have a litte stronger motor.
@The reasonableAmericans...I would tend to agree with most if not all of your points... some of these hop up motor/ esc combos are really nice but also quite expensive.. I mean if your trying to run a couple of trucks for yourself and kids the cost just blows out with nice beadlocks and good tyres etc.. let alone all other aspects that can be customized... I can get a super enjoyable afternoon crawling with my son and a friendly comp with stock powered trx4 and Scx10ii... and nothing to fix... Cheers
the spektrum dx5c controller has the ability to set the throttle response for a exponential curve, much like the pedal-to-output realism in a actual gas engine.i bought a 6x6 this weekend, ran into the unfortunate clicking/unshimmed center axle but still enjoyed my time using it!! i swapped in my own radio system and setup the throttle exponential on my radio and it sure acts like a real vehicle in terms of throttle ramp-up and output..i totally agreee with you on the finesse as opposed to brute power. its way more fun finessing it than bashing trust me, that's how axle assmblies shred :)
@@RCReviewChannel the umg 6x6👍 I just love the look of it has lots of scaling potential also the thing that put me off the trx6 wasn't the price but the issues I had with my trx4 I had replace 2075 2065 servos early on and the titan motor I swapped out too as the brushes have poor longevity especially since I run in alot of mud, it's a nice rig but would feel like buying the same car over again to fix the same issues finally got my trx4 how I want it but like the idea of something new to me as never had an axial tha ks for replying man💯I'm a really a big fan of your channel
My brother bought one and the 2nd axle does click but very rarely. We also fixed the rear driveshaft falling out issue by fixing the driveline angles and putting small light springs on each side of the center piece of the driveshaft to keep it centered. Also the tires suck. We did install a lighter spring on rear most axle and a 2spd transmission with a 21t 550 motor.
bought one this weekend. love it but less than 4 minutes in the centre axle was clicking...super disappointed but i contacted horizon and had a catalogue of "V2" parts sent out the following monday. really impressed with horizons support on this issue, glad to see theyre fixing it as online forums led me to believe i was on my own.
Great to hear!!!! Sounds like you had the same experience as many of us last year. Theyr provide warranty for sure (if you can get through) the phone lines. Still quite a bit disappointed that they have not addressed this known issue. There are probably many UMG 6x6 owners out there who just don't use the car much and/or the brand in frustration.
Wow I am sooo glade you posted this video! I was getting ready to go get the axial 6x6 . Now I will wait and see what they do to fix the axle problem. I have the Trx6 and it is awesome. Thank you for your reviews, If I think I want a new truck I always see if you reviewed it before I get it. 👍👍
I bought one of these a couple weeks ago. When I was unpacking it and almost ready to put the box in the recycle bin, I noticed that drive shaft part sitting in the box! And yes, it is "tippy".
I drove my buddies with proline hydrax tires and droop shocks, climbs any line the 4x4s won't, now im converting a bomber to 6x6 as a sct hauler, and my og scx10 crawler to 6x6 as well
I really like mine. Don't have the clicking issue and haven't lost a driveshaft yet. Did tear off the snorkel and the paint on the outside is coming off.
I had an scx10ii Jeep I got for my son. The chassis flexing badly and cheap plastic shocks really turned me off. Promptly sold it and got him a trx4 sport. Feels better built and it was less expensive!!
And it's discontinued. The trx6 can unlock its diffs and actually run at speed and turn. Stock for stock, my trx6 out turns my capra without dig. Now, I've ditched the AMG body for a CST J45C Land Cruiser one and threw 4ws on the capra, so it's tough to choose between the two. One is so nimble, but the other can just straight up crawl over so much. . I also reduced the intermediate axle's wheelbase from 12.8" to 12" since I wanted it to actually provide a better breakover angle. I would prefer it to be 10" with a 16" rear axle wheelbase, but that won't be possible. It would actually give you the best of short wheel base breakover and long wheelbase stability. But the 12"/18" is still nice.
I have 6x6 and got weighted wheels like suggested. I'd like to add brushless, like axe setup. I seen in your axe video you had moment of 3300kv in scx,but you suggest against big power here as blow gears...is there a happy middle road like a 540 can rather than a 550 in a lower kv perhaps?
Really enjoy your reviews and points of view... I have scx10ii and trx4 in 4x4 models. But I think I would go the Trx6 myself... bit more a total package. Cheers
@@RCReviewChannel I just watched your video on the TRX6 and the UMG10. I agree that the TRX6 seems to be a more capable vehicle, but lacks the looks of the old school body on the Axial model. So I mounted the Axial UMG10 body on my TRX6, now I have the best of both worlds.
@@RCReviewChannel Speaking of mods, I'm thinking about changing out the stock motor and esc in my TRX6 for the Hobbywing 3300kv set-up that you did. Have you found any issues with that set-up?
Still glad I picked the Traxxas G63. Like I said Axial rushed and cut far too many corners. If they offer a free differential fix to present owners that would be superb customer service. If they don’t it will leave a bitter memory in everyone’s ownership of their products..
Like your reviews man. What is making the clicking sound ? Bad shimming of the ring and pinion gears? Would like to see the Umg10 6x6 body onto the trx6 chassis or does it not fit ? Keep up the good work
Theory is gears are misaligned and slipping. Shimming and packing with grease has been tried extensively on the Unimog Facebook group but not successful.
Hey can tell me with my unimog in the middle of a run it will start to do a stop and go pause like it loss power of a split second i changed the esc to a hobbywing and no change i got a savox servo coming could it be that.my trx4 sport did this to but it was the esc
I got lucky too mine doesn't click. I have had the driveline come apart while wheeling. The tires I thought were absolute junk. I also think it's super underpowered. What are you running motor wise
Thank you for your first-hand experience. Rear driveline dropped huh? Very interesting. Tires are so hard for the weight of that vehicle. Motor is a Castle Slate and Mamba X combo with 2350kv
@@RCReviewChannel thank you for the response. I'm starting the process of upgrading mine now. I will add that combo to my list. Tires and some sliders are 1st up
1:20 i dont find that helpful, the body gets on the way if your going to be working on it, imagine working on the chasis a lot(up and down or side to side etc) you’ll need to carry the body along with the chasis. you even said it, you guys are working on it thats why you remove the body away from the chasis. because it’s better🤷🏻♂️
First, you should NEVER rotate the gears by hand through the tire. The gears are Hypoid cut and similar to a Worm gear, they need to be powered at the input. 2nd there is NOT a 30 to 40% failure rate. You do not know are production numbers and thus this is FALSE information. Yes we have some with possibly bad gears but i'm still waiting to get one in hand to check myself. In the mean time, Any owners with this issue should contact Horizon customer service and they will take care of you the best they can while i narrow this down.
Good point. Please understand that this axle failed on its own by the second battery. It occurred during heavy braking and backing up. It just got worse and worse with every battery run. It would have been very easy to show the failure on video by just running and braking. But then the viewer will have zero idea where the problem area is. What axle? Tranny? Pinion. And that's why the wheel was rotated. It's a very similar force to drag braking.
I do not like the UMG body. It looks militaristic. I really like the Traxxas Mercedes body it doesn't remind me of war. Fair price, bs, you can get a 6 by 6 truck from Banggood for $160. It seems to me that our well known RC brands, I am talking to you Traxxas, are ripping off its own customers. All of the established brands are guilty of the practice. Just Saying
Interesting though is it was never used in the military. Only used as a farm vehicle predominantly.

@@RCReviewChannel In Europe Unimog is used as troop transport, light artillery towing vehicle and also as self propelled artillery. You can buy ex military trucks in Germany and Netherlands. It's true that it started as agricultural vehicle: UNIversal-MOtor-Gerät", Gerät being the German word for a piece of equipment (also in the sense of device, machine, instrument, gear, apparatus).
Not for everyone but these are scale bodies depicting real vehicles and these are two that exist in the real world. Not a lot of options. There's licensing fees too involved which limit options.
You are such a traxxas fanboy! You gave the enduro all these great accolades yet anything made by axial you politely shit on! Also if any of you could drive these things worth a damned you might find out just how good some of your so called bad vehicles really are.....my option just as you have yours.
Here are four videos we published about the Axial Capra, a very, very good Axial vehicle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xf1MaOPEIrc.html You own the the UMG10 and disagree with anything we said? What exactly. Hope you're not just flaming. We are just outlining all the strengths and weaknesses of the UMG10 6x6 that we observed.
After buying one axial this year I would never buy one again, the quality is just so cheep it feels like a cheep chineses toy...traxxas makes much better quality other than their electronics
