Celebrating the music of one of Greece’s most loved classical composers, Mikis Theodorakis, Axion Esti explores the Nobel Prize winning poetry of Odyseas Elytis in a unique collaboration featuring international vocalist Vasilis Lekkas, director George Ellis conducting a symphony orchestra, the Millenium Choir and narration by Tony Nikolakopoulos.
Theodorakis’ most famous melodies including Ena To Helidoni (A Solitary Swallow) and Tis Dikeosinis Ilie (Sun of Justice) will be performed as an Australian premiere in a special collaboration between Sydney based Millennium choir, a symphony orchestra and an array of musicians performing on traditional Greek instruments.
This unique event honours the 90th birthday of esteemed composer Theodorakis and celebrates the sheer musical beauty of his masterwork compositions. Combining suffering and passion, spiritual lessons and poetic power, Axion Esti ‘It is Worthy’ was used to be interwoven with musical intricacy to form the influential lyrics within Theodorakis’ work.
