Geez! I love that my two favorite channels watch each other. Kurtis is one fine machinist and Isaac is a welding master. Both are fantastic teachers for me and my skills are much improved because you two! Thanks Isaac
Curtis from Cutting Edge Engineering, Australia, uses dual core wire for a lot of his work. He also follows your channel by the way. Nice work as always!
Yea, first time i actually became aware of how good it is was from Curtis. It makes for some solid welds and has changed my thinking on how to repair stuff.
Hobart makes a really good dual shield. I've run pallets of that wire. It'll even weld on scuzzy metal you're not too sure of. Really good properties can even do some impromptu hard facing with it if you peen on it a bit when it's still warm. Lays in nice and smooth and flux peels off like 7018 with the right settings. Can uphill and overhead with it no problemo. Listening to your weld if you bumped .2-.5 volts it'll stop spitting BBs and the end of your wire won't form a bead, never need to trim the end with welpers. I always ran straight stringers pushing slightly.
It’s comical to watch a master at work. Then grudgingly agree that there are technological advances in welding! lol Proves that even an old dog can learn new tricks! Keep up the great work Isaac!
I ran 2 or nearly 2 dual shield spools a week for a few years... you gotta play with the setting, it looked a little hot from the dark flux color... the sound was off not ssssss sizzle or the glopy cooking sound when the wire speed is a little slow... but all welding machines aren't the same and there's different settings for power and wire speeds for different requirements... the hotter it's ran the more strength it has but becomes more brittle. from my experience, when you get it dialed in the you'll get slag peal and no need to chip anything. I used a little air from the air chisel exhaust it would blow it away and would be ready for the next pass. I did mostly 1/2 to 1 in. structural with it and the occasional low hydrogen process on some applications. it's fantastic stuff.
Your videos are awesome, always a pleasure to watch. Leatherman tools should sponsor you, your Leatherman pliers show up in each video, they appear to be the go to tool for most everything. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
I hope you’ll work more with the duel-feed. It looks much better and most welders using it, like it. - eventually. You said it yourself, butter. Kind of ‘an old dog with a new trick’. But it’ll work better for you if you commit to it.
I dont understand why it's not used more in industrial and outdoor settings. Even in a windy environment it welds so well with fewer stops and starts than stick. There are certainly times when stick has an advantage but overall I'd weld dual shield over about any other process whenever I could.
I used ti weld with a very old hobart mig welding machine at the railways in my country I must say it was one of the best machines i worked with although it was so old a beutiful arc welded smooth the new machines we have today with all their fancy settings just dont beat that old gem.
@@ICWeld ours where more a yellow greenish colour being as old some guys painted their machines these days people dont have pride in their machines dont keep it dust free dent them etc pride is very important when doing your job even pride in ones machines and equipmqnt that is what makes up a good artesan pride in his/her work enjoy your day go well stay safe.
I’ve asked you before if your chain hoist was homemade, you said it was but you didn’t think we would be interested in how it was made. You’re wrong it’s something that we would & could use. Thank you Sir for your videos, they’ve helped us a lot. Again thank you Sir
So you finally tried dualshield!! It's awesome wire to run! the slag comes off easier if you give it a minute to protect the weld from the atmosphere, like lo-hi rod
Man thats the same stuff I used, it penetrates better than anything else. Miller Xmt or 252/251p? at 24 volts and 320 inches per minute or 21v and 240(?) would easily weld some 1inch blocks onto an auger that was as tall as an underpass on the freeway. Good for Kelly bars and 2inch or 4 inch(?)pile driver gussets too! Just 1 root pass and 3 more passes on top = strong. Even in the wind it's great!
Love the welds for what the dual shield does. I also have trouble seeing welds and I modified a light. I have one of those halogen work lights on a tripod stand with the rectangular fixture. Halogen bulbs don't last long and the heat they produce is next to welding. I purchased a pair of rectangular LED COB lights, yellow looking built on a white, flat circuit boars (amazon and other places sell them) and because it is Circuitry On Board, you only attach the positive and negative leads directly from a 110 outlet with solder. They are available in different output and the light produced by the finished unit is next to a cloudless day in the summer. I removed the halogen bulb and replaced it with the 2 LED COB lights. I used a piece of aluminum sheet (steel could also be used and aluminum is what I had available) to mount the LEDs with small screws and nuts and then attached it to the fixture. I was not able to use the reflector but with some mods it should be possible and when done, it was unnecessary. The LEDs do not make much heat and I can now see the weld. The LEDs produce a much better light than do the halogens. Look for at least 100W and if higher, go for it. Price might be ten bucks each. They last a long time and be sure to check if the ones you look at are 1110 or 240 volt so you do not get the wrong ones. This is an easy project.
Seasons Greetings 🎅 & Welcome to the Dual Shield club Issac ... try bumping your volts up a bit cuz ... it should run quieter & you'll be able to see the pool easier 🤔
Thank you for a year of great videos and learning opportunities. I wish you and your family (and all your subscribers) a safe and joyful Christmas and Happy New Year!
Nicely done, Isaaq. We have 4 Corners Welding Supply in Cortez and Durango, too. I didn't know they were down in Gallup but I'm not surprised. Glad they sent you the wire. That was very nice.
Hey man with that paint it looks factory made great job as usual Merry Christmas and another prosperous New Year will be looking forward for more of your great videos next year
Merry Christmas Sir. You had a lot of great videos the past year. Looking for more of the same for next year. As always well done sir. Mike from South Central Ky.
Thanks for the video Issac nicely done 👍❤❤. Take care of yourself and family and be Blessed. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family ❤.
You’re not too bad at this stuff, you should look into getting into the welding and repair business! lol you’ve forgotten more than I’ll ever know! Merry Christmas from Ahia!
Hi Isaac. Thanx for some very informative welding in all your projects. Enjoy it so much. May you have a blessed Christmas and Festive Season with your loved ones. 🎄🎄✝️✝️🙏🏽🙏🏽 Take care. EJM 🇿🇦🇿🇦
11:18 .. As a kid on the farm i normally used a #14 Dark Welding Glass in my Hood, When I was in construction as a Millwright in my 20's I used to make fun of the Old Ironworkers that had to use magnifying cheaters and a #9 Glass in their hoods. Well I'm down to bifocals' and a #10 Welding Glass today (#11 on bigger stick welding) .. lucky I am pretty much retired now. :)
Greetings Isac, can't believe it's been a year. Thank you for making time to video these amazing videos. Merry Christmas to you, your family, friends and subscribers. Wishing a healthy, joyful, prosperous and Blessed New Year, stay well be safe. Always and always enjoy your videos, very interesting, informative, educational and entertaining.....keep em coming please. Ciao
Yeah that was a good one. Easy not that bad. I have the same problem when I weld when I weld on my bench. I have a light above my head and it seems to reflect down inside the mask and it's hard to see. So I made up a little hood piece that hangs over the back of my head to block the light. I seen other people use them so I'm going to give it a shot next time I do some welding and see how it goes. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Merry Christmas to you and your family Isaac! (And Happy New Year)...I'm going to pretend to be you tomorrow and Weld on some auxiliary Hydraulic valves to my mini excavator, learning from your video definitely helps confidence, so thanks for sharing as always! Great video, looking forward to the next!
Isaac that is a good wire in my experience with it. Plus...Eric is a cool dude from what I have heard and my limited conversations with him. someday soon I am going to buy something from him.
