- Okay so let me get this out of the way. - Basically I've seen a channel who I shall keep nameless, cut off an axolotls legs, I saw so many people who were enraged with him and wanted to get this out of the way at many channels. Enough small talk, here's what I have to say: For the man who cut off the axolotls leg, it was medically necessary. If an axolotls leg gets cut off by a human, or natural reasons, axolotls will regrow their legs, obviously. Cutting of an axolotls leg(s) and or tail is necessary if it didn't grow in correctly! This helps your aquatic friend live a better life! I also highly recommend that if you are thinking about this you do research and get a vet or medical help if doing so if you haven't done this procedure before! Hope this helped. Stay safe. 🙂

Could a Axolotl breed with an adult salamander?

From what I understand, the larval stage axolotls can breed with morphed tiger salamanders (Ambystoma tigrinum) though it seems to be frown upon in the community. As for a larval axolotl breeding with a morphed axolotl, I didn't find anything indicated that it can't happen - though it's extremely rare for them to morph (so rare that the possibility of it happening in the wild is questioned and most of the ones that have morphed in captivity have done so through stimulation).

No. They're aquatic animals and need water to survive. MAYBE if one metamorphosed into the adult form without gills - but that is rather rare and the resulting adults are known to have shortened lifespans.

What depth do they live in?

I would say no deeper than about 5 feet (1.5m), as that is the maximum depth listed on Google of Xochimilco (the only place on earth they live wildly).
