Dr. Shabir Ally has a real gift for explaining things in an easily understandable way but also a great gift for self reflection and introspection.

Being a Sunni myself, I completely agree with Dr Ally While we love to play the "tolerance card" when living in secular countries But at the same time we are so much intolerant to the minority sects of the Muslims

It is nice to see a shaykh/speaker from the GTA who can HONESTLY address the issue and not just be covered in Salafi infuelnce of hatred towards everyone else.

I have so much love and respect for brother Shabir and also for our sister Safiya. Some constructive criticism would be to perhaps allow the videos to go on a little longer in order to fully explore the idea. This video managed to cover the reasons for the division between Sunnis and Shias but barely scratched the surface of the story of the sister who was killed and the events that followed.

Who could be better in continuing the message of Islam and guidance of the Ummah than the first Muslim who was also raised in his household and married his daughter? Such a person would know of the intricacies of the religion to a much finer level than anyone else reasonably could. Do you think that God and the Prophet pbuh would go to all the trouble that they did and leave Muslims and mankind without guidance? Why would the Prophet not leave a will when it is required in Islam and when all the other Khalifas did? Are Abu Bakr, Omar, and Othman wiser than our beloved messenger?

For the people who are saying I’m Shia and this and that or I’m Sunni this and that, the prophet peace be upon him would not take up such titles, the only title a Muslim should have is a Muslim or a moumin. Wa al Salam wa alkum wa rahama.

Honestly it makes no sense that the Prophet would make Abu Bakr lead the prayer if Ali was there.

Since this Sheikh seems to be very fair minded I would like to ask him this question. If you were to appoint a successor to continue after yourself would you appoint somebody about the same age as yourself ? What would be the point in that. What if he died before yourself. A successor must be a few years younger to be meaningful.

There’s a lot in common with the moderate majority shia brothers that I don’t see any real difference with then, the problem however is with the extreme shia who hold evil false views on the Prophet’s companions and wives and even the holy Quran!

It is my understanding that the Shias do not like Aisha ra... while my husband doesn’t like to go by Sunni or Shia label, we follow Islam by the book, his family is Shia. When we had our daughter we considered the name aisha and there was so much protest from their side. Of course it didn’t matter to me or my husband I named my daughter as I wished. So if they’re rejecting abu bakr ra just coz of their dislike for Aisha ra i think it’s time to move on and reunite. There is no point on fighting over the successor because at the end of the day whether it was abu bakr ra or Ali ra both were there for the interest of the people and both would do their best. This political divide shouldn’t have become a religious divide... shame on both sides for the abuse and name calling ... how dare we expect secular countries to cater to our demands when we abuse one of our own?

A bit disappointed here. I am all for Shia/Sunni unity. But any Shia that curses the Sahabi and our mothers I DONT want unity with them at all. You mention attacks against Shia which happens.. its disgusting and un-islamic. But please mention the Shia attacks on Sunnis too (just look at Syria).
