The psychoactive substance ayahuasca is common in Brazil. For generations, indigenous people have incorporated it into their rituals. Researchers say it can serve as an alternative to anti-depressants - and as a way to treat drug addiction.
Ayahuasca translates as "spirits of the woody vine.” In Brazil, consuming it as part of religious rituals has been legal for decades. In the village of the Huni Kuin tribe, the plants needed to make the sacramental drink grow right next to the river. Villagers gather once a month to drink the brown liquid from a small glass. It’s a bitter brew made by boiling a special type of vine with the leaves of a coffee plant. It puts the Huni Kuin people into a rapturous, hallucinatory state that lasts hours. It’s a cleansing, healing journey of self-discovery, says tribal elder Ibã Huni Kuin.
A growing number of foreigners and Brazilians are traveling to the state of Acre to join in these spiritual experiences. But in Rio de Janeiro - not far from the Sugarloaf Mountain - there’s an ayahuasca church that’s existed for decades. Several times of month, a religious congregation gathers at the church for an intoxicating ayahuasca ceremony that goes on for hours and involves dancing and the recitation of verses celebrating nature and the Catholic faith.
Back in the ayahuasca heartlands of Brazil, chief Ibã Huni Kuin uses art to capitalize financially on his ayahuasca ceremonies. This money, in turn, goes to help protect the rainforest.

Ayahuasca is not a hallucinogen (as stated in the description), but a psychedelic (something that reveals the contents of the mind), a substance that leads to a state of waking dream and brings to consciousness the deep mental contents of the person, those that they like and also those that they have swept under the rug. It acts as a magnifying glass as well, as each thought that surfaces is magnified hundreds of times. When I took it for the first time, it was like an intensive and instantaneous laboratory of practical Buddhism since Buddhism says that everything is mental creation. Under ayahuasca, what you create in the mind becomes as real and palpable as physical objects around us, in waking life. But I warn you, it's not for the faint-hearted: it's one of the most challenging and yet most instructive experiences one can have. And it's like jumping out of a plane: once you jump, there's no going back. It takes hours and hours for the effect to wear off, and those hours can become heaven or hell, depending on where the mind is led. Furthermore, under the influence of this psychedelic (as well as several others), the perception of time is greatly altered, and 5 minutes of hell during the process can feel like an eternity. Therefore, only take it under the care and guidance of a very experienced person. It's definitely not for recreational use!

Depends on the intention, the guide, the space, the dedication to healing and maintaining spiritual health. Many people are pulled into this trend and are having detrimental and sometimes psychotic experiences because they don’t actually know why they’re doing it. I am an advocate for ancestral healing, plant medicine, psilocybin, the healing of the nations, but when things become popular and trends and money shifts perspective, different energies affect the experience and some people are leading vulnerable individuals into soul expansion work without preparation and intention, and leech off their energy instead. An important video/point of discussion in these times🙏👁🧚‍♂🧚‍♂

What the documentary fails to point out, is that the indigenous communies in Brazil and other countries , as for instance the Shipibo in Peru take and mix other psychotropic substances like such as the flowers of Toe, the Morning Glory also known as Datura into their brews. There have been countless cases cases of heavy metal illness and death throughout history. Also the documentary does not reflect on the fact that a big portion of the members of the Santo Daime church as well as others from the Uniao do Vegetal are used to the habit of smoking Maconia ( marihuana) either at the time of ceremony or afterwards. In the Santo Daime it is done openly, whereas in the Uniao do Vegetal it is more of a hidden, private affair. But this is just my personal observation of spending time in both environments with the use of the potion in indigenous environments as well as the urban settings of the big brazilian Metropoles. I don't want even to touch the subject of business oriented ayahuasca retreats around Iquitos and elsewhere in the amazon basin of Peru. The stories of all kind of exploitation of the foreign tourists by the ceremonial shamans and especially sexual exploitation of the female tourists which often find themselves in utterly vulnerable and highly sensitive mental and emotional conditions induced by various substances taken separately or mixed together at the sessions , are literally endless. I personally know of Shipibo shamans, which are highly regarded in their magical skills, that have up to 10 children with as many different western women. Another subject that the documentary does not touch is the cultural background of the use of ayahuasca in pre-european times. Where those potions were used by the clans shaman for not only healing but also for the magical practices of finding prey for hunting as well as spiritual warfare with other rivaling clans. It was very common for instance, that shamans who didn't provide the wanted results were either killed or expelled from from their communities. Those magic often deadly magical practices , which often resulted with illness or death of the targeted individuals were never lost but just ,out of economic concerns ,gave way to the completely misguided western approach of peace , love and happiness. Which is a grave misunderstanding of the highly poverty driven background of the indigenous people of the region. As someone with quite some years of personal experience in this field, i feel that those aspects should be pointed out in order to provoke the attention of those rather naive and gullible individuals seeking other worldly experiences as a substitute for their personal enquiry and discovery of the internal factors that have led them to their emotional unease, anxiety and depression. In other words we mislead ourselves by blaming the circumstances , people , our traumas and the arisen emotional pain for our suffering, while in reality it is our gratuitous attitude of having somehow ownership over the domain of feelings and therefore being entitled to not wanting pain and to only feel pleasurable. Such an attitude of aversion towards arisen painful feelings then becomes the only reason for our suffering. Through our wrong understanding of the nature of phenomena such as feelings , our lives become dictated by the lust and desire for pleasure and our hate and aversion for displeasure. The use of psychotropic substances can , in my experience, effectively mask and prevent us from discerning such fundamental existential discrepancies within us by providing a temporary and pleasant safe haven for our deeply hidden wrong views of reality and our misguided intentions.
@edusays
@edusays 6 месяцев назад
Yes. We created societies that will you teach you to hate our human condition that is suffering. Of course it shouldn't be an ideal. But it is one way that makes us feel human.
@zorananda
@zorananda 6 месяцев назад
@@edusaysit's not so much the fact that we hate our human condition. It's more the fact that we hate every kind of painful feeling that arises, be it physical or mental. This attitude of hate towards a painful feeling implies already in itself that we assume to have some kind of control, some kind of ownership over feelings , that we have a say over what kind of feelings we want and what kind of feelings we don't want to have. But by asking ourselves if we are the creator and master of a arisen painful feeling, we can see that we have no say and no control whatsoever in the arising of a painful feeling. We didn't make it nor did we want it. If we were its creator and controller we would never have let a painful feeling arise in the first place. If we were the creator and master of feelings, we would always only have pleasant feelings. But the fact that we are experiencing painful feelings , which are not wanted, means that we have absolutely no say in the domain of feelings. So we see that our sense of ownership and control over feelings is nothing more than a gratuitous assumption which is rooted in our wrong perception of those phenomena. Whereby pain in itself was never the problem. The problem is in our attitude towards pain. In other words, the problem is that we have a problem with pain. Pain is not what is making us suffer. What makes us suffer is our aversion and resistance towards pain. There is a painful feeling present and i don't want it. That internal discrepancy is what makes us suffer. Remove the craving to get rid of the pain and there will be no suffering. Discerning that deeply rooted internal discrepancy between the nature of phenomena such as feelings and our wrong perception of them ,which result in our gratuitous assumptions, is something that is solely in our individual responsibility. The ways of society might not be helpful in discerning those things but it is surely not to blame for that condition. The only thing to blame is our wrong understanding and ignorance in regards to the true nature of reality. So instead of obscuring reality with yet another temporary pain killer in the form of a intense psychoactive substance which will "cure" us by temporarily covering up our weaknesses, we could just try to restrain our senses and practice not to act out of intentions that are rooted in the desire for pleasure or in the aversion towards pain. That would eventually reveal our deeply rooted addiction and dependence on sensual pleasure. And that would then provide us with a more accurate picture and starting point of our problems.

@zorananda
@zorananda 6 месяцев назад
@@thegreatujo my post was actually more about the emotional pain and our craving to get rid of it. And how we have no say in the arisng of unpleasant feelings. We should not not mix that with physical pain because it is a slightly different issue. In regards to physical pain we can say that if we always immediately run to painkillers as soon as we feel bodily pains, then that attitude is turning us into overly sensitive ,weak cowards. If you want to develop a mind that is able to surmount bodily pain, then your attitude should be as follows: ,, if it is not a life threatening situation, i will not take any painkillers." Practice fearlessness towards pain sufficiently and soon you will see that pain is loosening its grip over you. When the pain sees that you will under no circumstances try to run away from it, then it will lose interest in you and you will stop being its regular "customer". When you stop being afraid of pain,it's almost as if the pain starts being afraid of you. I am saying that out of my personal experience of not taking any painkillers for many years now. Stop cultivating a attitude of avoiding pain at any cost and pain will stop being a overwhelming burden for you.

@@wallybingbang4350I’m glad you have someone, but I feel it’s important for you to remember nothing is permanent, good things and bad, and especially when it comes to another person, another mind, we have no control over circumstances. All that to say, sometimes we may need another to love us and help us into a better place, but putting all our happiness and well being on that person is not a good thing. Any given day what they need from life could change, and we should be ready for that. Also, almost paradoxically, when you put your happiness on someone else to that degree, it actually strains relationships, heavily, and subconsciously causes the other person to lose respect for us. The more a relationship means to you, the more fragile it is. One of the HARDEST things to understand and properly implement in life, I feel especially for men. You guys (DW) should have gone to the Takiwasi Center, in Tarapoto, Peru. It is a drug rehabilitation center that uses Ayahuasca as medicine. The founder is a French doctor (Jacques Mabit) with a degree in Tropical Pathology and Naturotherapy. The ceremonies performed during the treatment are traditional to local shamans and are part of a program that lasts up to a year. The cure rate is very high, including non-recurrence. Some employees arrived at the center as patients and now work there. In fact, the Takiwasi Center has enough material to fill a video alone. I recommend a video on RU-vid (with English subtitles) in which he explains a bit what is Ayahuasca and how natives and westerners view the drink. Even if the “Santo Daime churches” use Ayahuasca (they call it “Daime”), the ceremony itself is completely different than the one based on indigenous tradition. In my perception the Daime ceremony is more similar to what a Christianity religious cerimonies would be, with a lot of rules. While the indigenous ceremony is more spiritual not that religious, without a lot of rules. There is no better or worst, it’s just different. The documentary is great, but kind of described both Daime and Ayshuasca ceremonies as the same thing.

ka = female & spiritual, the Teacher, Source ba = male & material, the Master, God la = body (~ba) & nobody (~ka), the Pupil, Ego (external ego ~ ba & internal ego ~ ka) If we would use the image of a house as a metaphor, the ka is the attic, the ba is the basement and the la is everything in between. The problem is that we live in a ba-only mentality and the mind is connected to the ba and not the ka. This creates a vicious circle with a lot of compensation attitude, that gives us seldom a structural improvement. We 'forgot' the ka to have a bit of a life of our own and maybe, this gave us material benefits, but we alienated more and more from our true 'human' nature. The psyche is the balance between body and mind, and it is connected to the ka and our internal ego. Even I am afraid of 'cures' that uncover the secrets that were meant to be kept in the dark. Reality can be stranger than fiction and we are only aware of 5% of what is needed, so it's better to keep a low profile when things don't go as expected. Often, the advantages of a 'spiritual' waking up are short lived and you have learned already to manage your energy level from childhood on. With the experiences I had when the floor of the attic came down, I would advice to keep the shutters closed and invest into your potential only - there is a very good reason for your 'Achterhuis' (~ Anne Frank). Both males and females have a mix of ba and ka, so it doesn't make you gender specific, but women have a different function in the collective than men and that's why there is a matriarchal handover besides the patriarchal heritage line. We don't want a long life, but a 'happy' one and things become very concerning when you'd rather go to sleep (sleep is the little death) than waking up (which has become reality for me), so maybe the ka-ba-la frame can help us understand that the psyche is our natural survival kit and we can use the serenity prayer (A.A.) as a reminder when we feel left in the cold.

I know it's not ayahuasca but because of psychedelic 'shrooms I came to know and love God. I was raised in a Christian household but was angry at life, at my parents who created me and remember blaspheming God's Holy name until one of my co-workers gave me his dealer's number and starting testing my boundaries with the dosages. The trip that stood out was December 8th 2023 when the psychedelic trance wasn't cutting it, vibes were off so after an hour I got up to change the music and checked RU-vid for some. A video came up "Who is God?" a twenty-minute video of different pastors/speakers talking about God. After finishing the video I was still stoned and needed to lay back down so I clicked on "Planet Zoo Ambiance" on RU-vid and went to bed. Those who use 'shrooms try it out for a trip once. The music is such vibes: the soft melodies with the humming and finger-snapping. Very nice! Every time I listen to that soundtrack I remember of this trip. I don't remember dying or anything but remember blasting off to Heaven from the Bible and seeing all my family and loved ones being in white clothes, smiling and being joyous. I was in bed, completely comfortable, tearing up while envisioning this. I was looking at them with PURE love and happiness. Something I barely feel. Sure. I feel happy but this type of happy was on a insane 10,000% feeling. The ugly feelings of whatever we humans have: hatred, greed, sorrow, jealously, so on. didn't exist in my heart nor in that place. At some point I remember seeing Jesus in his form (like from Passion of the Christ) with flowing brown hair and white clothes. I thanked Him for dying for us and thanked God with every other breathe while this was happening. Truly amazing! Perhaps God gave me a glimpse of what Heaven will be like and to try to live a sin-less life. And after that my porn addiction, masturbation, anger and depression seized to exist! Sure I still get annoying or irritated but on a much smaller scale than before. I would definitely recommend it IF you are doing it with good intentions and willing to change. 😊🍄

He heard voices constantly saying he couldn't eat and that he had to turn in to a hermit for spiritual purposes, his father is now a advocate against ayahuasca. Another famous case was of a guy who k!lled a father and a son, leathers of a well known Ayahuasca organisation, this man also developed schizophrenia....Also a famous brazilian comedian to0k his 0wn life after developing paranoia caused by ayahuasca. All those guys took the drink in very well known ayahuasca organisations, recognised by the government as valid spiritual facilities so they can by law consume the drink. I'm Brazilian and familiar with the underground niche surrounding ayahuasca. In the past, this herb was used for indigenous rituals. However, nowadays, many people drink it to experience random sensations. In realy talk, this is an event to drug oneself, camouflaged within Afro-descendant, Catholic, and indigenous religions. My wife is indigenous, and she abhors this practice. She has never taken it because it was not from her tribe and recognizes that it is something dangerous. There is no quality standard for handling the drug or even authorization by public health authorities.

There is not really a Boom of that. People know of this tea for a long time and it is new for many people on world. Lots of people are looking for that thinking it is one more entrainment but they find light and themselves when drinking with someone that knows how to guide the person on this use.

I took ayahuasca from beginning of my birth. It healed my anxiety from entering this world.

There's a song in brazil called " Cachimbo da paz" . It goes like this: "A drunk man stabbed the bar owner 'Cause he doesn't sell licquor on the cuff And a old man drinked whisky too much Woke up by the side of a trans, murdered the poor thing" Is the Ayahuasca the real enemy here?

Might be well intentioned. But Ayahuasca practice and Daime's are not the same. And translating daime representatives talking about their practice as if it was the same thing that the indigenous peoples practice is not accurate. While the drink is similar (yet, not identical) it is important to highlight the context and practices which are as important, if not more so, than the drink itself

I've taken peyote and other sacred cacti. I think the effects would be similar to ayahuasca. You see geometric patterns and magical shapes. Noises and visuals are distorted, but you can still think in linear patterns. I'm not interested in taking peytoe again because of the vomit factor, but sacred cacti provided a route to inner-healing from August 2006 to July 2007.
