I'm so glad i ordered the geek 1s and surprised that we share the same opinion on the 800p screen I saw the original geek with the 800p display and went "hey this display aint bad" held the console in the store loving it and my mind immediately wanting to buy the geek 1s Thank god i can still get the early bird price on the base model I think ppl need to start stop talking about higher resolutions on handhelds and start talking about panel quality I was originally going to buy the new air with 7840u but sad that i found out that they use the same shell as the air pro which i have and it means it has the same 38wh battery I was hoping it would use the same shell as the air plus (46wh) But now im getting the geek 1s mainly for the bigger battery and the analog stick im so excited
@@colegillgrass3373 yeah but its probably going to release at the end of the year or something Decided to get the geek for a bit bigger battery and that nice big analog stick
LoL, I watched a review for steam deck OLED, some people actually compare that to Ayaneo 2S and said they don't like Aya because the company stop support their product. And here we are, huge improvemnt to their software. Also is the Dpad on the 1S different than 2S? You gave like a B+ for the 2S' Dpad!
I'd love to see a comparison of this with the Aya Neo Air 1S. I have small hands and really want a smaller handheld. Currently using ROG Ally as a daily gaming device.
this, heck throw in the gpd win 4 too for good measure and then the onexfly and aokzoe a2 when they release as they also look equally compact... maybe the ayaneo slide too and then compare all the larger ones too, it would be great to really see which have the best screen, best buttons, etc go down the list comparing every aspect side by side, then i feel like one would make a more educated decision on which fits their needs best
Ayaneo just dropped a new BIOS that increases the RAM to 7500 MT for a couple of models, including the Geek 1S. I wonder if you have some thoughts on what sorts of effects we should expect from that.
Thanks for this review. I just ordered one in Pure White. 7840u + 800p + 50wh battery seems like the perfect setup right now. AYAspace 2 also looks really promising. I'm so excited!
I'm avidly waiting for the email with the tracking number for the Geek 1S with the 1200p display that I've ordered. I was torn between this and the GPD Win 4, with a little more overtime on my job I still might spring for the Win 4.
man i hear u they all look sick in their own way, those 2 and then ayaneo 1s with the oled, upcoming aokzoe a2, rog ally because of the 120hz vrr screen well it just irks me that others lack that feature on their screen, those are my top models i just can't decide btw and also would love to just buy them all lmao, i mean especially someone that was fond of their psp and vita it's like an automatic with the gpd win 4, it's like sony made it lol
I'm not one of those people that loves the steam deck track pads but what is useful is the fact that you can hold down the steam button and then use the track pad at any point to move a mouse cursor is there a button that allows you to do the same thing with the right analog stick?
The recently announced Kun looks amazing. Depending on the price, I may go with that or the Ally. The Ally seems to be the best value in terms of a windows handheld. I already have a steam deck and have no desire to dual boot, I really like the steamOS on it, I've become somewhat of a handheld fanboy .
have the ally but it sucks with the 16gb of ram. I keep getting notifications stating i am running low on system memory when you want to use the 8gb vram. judt purchased a aokzoe a1 pro and a air 1s and thinking of getting this geek 1s
I’m seriously tempted to get the geek 1s over an Ally, but the lottery of having to pay import taxes when shipping to the UK is putting me off. That and having to send it back somehow if it fails. I can go and buy an Ally from a large retailer in the UK so I know exactly what I’d be paying. Plus where to go if there’s a problem.
I just got my 2s, and import taxes were only $30 (Belgium). Was pleasantly surprised. Doesn’t mean it would be that reasonable for you of course. I do really like the device, like physically. The ayaspace software is terrible (usable but not a good experience), but I’m on version 1, so that will be improved. The whole experience of using windows is a little annoying, so I’m considering getting an sd card and running Chimera OS off that most of the time.
I think if I end up paying UK VAT, then for the Geek 1S, 32GB, 512GB SSD version it would cost around £750. Which is only £50 more than the Ally, but I get twice the memory, hall sticks and a bigger battery. So when you look at it that way, it’s not a bad deal (it’s fantastic deal if I get lucky and pay no import taxes). I guess that just leaves the question of what would happen if I have a problem with it. You’d think the way I was talking I’ve actually got a spare £750 and the use case to buy one. FOMO is a terrible thing 😂
My issue with the Alloy is that at home in bed (at least 3/4 of my usage scenario), I'd be using it plugged in, and I don't have a single USB slot available to me when it's plugged in. Huge oversight. The SD card slot is well known to have heat issues and malfunction, so I can't even rely on that. Just one USB port is all I want. Incredible. The 4090 dock is 4 GRAND here in OZ, so not even an option. I'd have considered the 6850M dock, as they were blowing them out at about 1200 AUD, and would have been more cohesive all AMD setup, retaining the freesync and allowing me to play on the internal screen at 1080P ultra for any game, but they're all sold out. The 4090 dock is really only for those wanting to use an external screen, otherwise a complete waste at 1080P. The Ally is 1299 AUD here, 200 less than a GEEK with 32TB and 2TB storage, so, double the ram with Aya Neo (great for iGPU and OS never to get memory bottlenecked) and 4x the storage for 200 bucks. And a working SD slot lol. But I don't know what indiegogo ship will cost. Also, they have heat issues with the screen, so that's a no go too. Plus, the Ally is the only one to use a proper landscape screen, not a rotated portrait display, so zero compatibility issues with old games right out of the box. With the Ally I'd have local Asus warranty support, but again, 512GB SSD with no free USB slot when plugged in, and a hit or miss sd card, and 16GB ram which will get much more easily maxed out, and it really puts me off. I don't know what to do. I have large hands and the Ally's offset design, heavily so, really looks like it will be comfy for me also, but I don't know how to get past that lack of USB. Maybe there's some other usb c hub out there with power passthrough that can provide me some ports. Will look into it. I am just not sure what to do. All that said, in keeping with your OP, I think the Geek or the 2S are too much of a risk cause of the screen heat issue. I'd be taking a real punt to on comfort, as I have a feeling it won't be comfortable to hold. The offset is too mild and grips too rounded and shallow.
Is there a way to request features for AyaSpace? I just saw a 3rd party Handheld Overlay that allows to turn off CPU cores and that would be awesome to have in the official app
According to some users experiences , they said there are heat issue on the screen and loud fan noise and some back light problems , I d like to see review on those aspects .
It's possible. Well known actually that at 100% brightness at anything over 25w the screen becomes a hazard to touch, exceeding mid 50's Celsius on the surface. They have acknowledged it and say to run below 80% brightness and under 30w. Even on the 2S with its premium price. Pay for a premium device and can't use it at full speed. Screen will discolour too on the right side. Stopped me in my tracks from purchase.@@hartlytartly
I'm a bit confused on the FSR toggle. Is that simply a "Full Screen" toggle? Couldn't one just select bordeless full screen or full screen on that game? It's a bit confusing because AMD's FSR usually refers to their AI upscale tech.
the 16GB model defaults to 3GB VRAM for the GPU while the 32GB defaults to 6GB. It can make a difference in newer, stuttering games that take more vram like hogwarts legacy
But how does it compare to the GPD Win 4? Besides offset dpad how good is the grip for long gaming sessions? What about heat and fan noise? How about the overall weight? Does it support fast charging? Talk about the USB ports yada yada...
AyaSpace 2 looks fantastic. I very much dislike Aya Space on my Aya Neo 2. Any word of availability for Aya Space 2 for the Aya Neo 2? Even in beta form?
@@KindaKurtI can't imagine that removing the keyboard would allow for it to be much smaller than the Win 2 or the new Win Mini, there's only so much space it takes up and those two are already some of the smallest on the market regardless of the included keyboard.
I have the 2 but I would agree with the points. I just love the all glass but hardly ever use the full 1200 resolution in games since I can't read the text anymore LoL Too small for the screen!
Supposedly it is coming out this summer at some point. So it shouldn't be too long till the indigogo, but if you want it now, I don't know how long it will take before they start shipping.
its been coupla months of waiting on my g1s 32\512 1200p purple and today aya sait that i need to wait, once again, just a little more, till the beginning of august..............
Since this is the same 800p panel from the regular geek, from what I heard, through CRU utility some people have only been able to get it down to 50hz at the lowest, and some can't get it to work at all. Real bummer.
Yes. I think 2230m.2 on Ally vs the full sized 2280 m.2 on Aya Neo will make up the difference. Plus the SD Card issue on Ally is a hardware issue thats not on the Aya devices. (That i know of)
@@jpnzo2k12es but warranty and support is worse than on ROG Ally, and also with the Geek you need to import it and pay a bunch of customs and taxes on it. On the Ally I can buy it locally, and send it back if I don’t like it.
@@jpnzo2k12hahahahah ally over the 2s ! You must be drunk 2s over the ally all day night I have both and sold the ally its shit compared to my 2s in so many tests
Their next device, the AyaNeo Kun, has really nice Touchpads. It's like a Strictly Better Steam Deck, with a larger 8'4 screen, nearly double sized battery (75wh vs 40wh), and not much heavier (i believe less than 100g weight difference). So if one really cars about TrackPads that is a good option.
I suppose that in the current market, it does look pretty good. I'm not sure that the 32Gb RAM model will being anything special to the table for the additional price. I think that the storage bag should be included as standard and the optional dock seems overpriced. I've never seen a 'fantasy' black colour. It is universally known as plain old black.
I still don't understand people playing downgraded versions of Triple AA games on handhelds. Handhelds have always been and for the foreseeable future on the Go Retro Systems, and for Indie Titles that can easily be ran at full speed and native resolution. Nothing More.
If the xbox series s was a handheld that could be dock could xbox also make a egpu make it have series x graphics are something external to make it work like a series x when dock?
They're running the same chipset so their performance should be the same, but the Ally had significant driver issues hampering its performance compared to the Aya2S/Geek1S and especially the GPD handhelds. Unless ASUS has cleaned up drivers, the Ally isn't going to perform as well as anything with a standard 7840u.
@@ThePhilosogamer Not even really talking about performance. Just overall experience. This just comes off as a paid showcase otherwise if there's no comparison to any other devices. Should I buy one? I don't know, you didn't compare it to anything else. Bonkers to omit it willingly considering the popularity of the Ally, so I can only imagine it was a stipulation of the agreement for a review unit and if that's the case... yikes.
@@banboosyought I’d try help you out with my experience. I have the Ayaneo 2s and HAD the rog ally. I returned the rog ally because - it felt cheap in my hands / the proprietary e-gpu port / the lack of io ( only one usb-c port) /the worries about my sd card being broken by the rog ally. - In short, I really enjoyed it but felt like a beta tester, which I didn’t like as I thought I’d dodge that bullet by buying a big-name brand. The good - the VRR screen, support from ASUS (still bad but better than ayaneo). The Ayaneo 2s has been great for me (so far: 3 weeks of ownership) the design is nicer in my opinion, it feels premium to hold and the screen has a nicer colour profile. The software for now is worse than ASUS’ , but Ayaspace 2 should fix that. I also miss the VRR screen, but it does perform better. I get around 8-10fps more in cyberpunk. I prefer the option for 32gb RAM + larger storage capacity, as despite being a tinkerer don’t want to upgrade manually and screw the pooch somehow. Bare in mind that the geek has a different screen by default , so my comments might be irrelevant on that matter. Hope this helps in your decision-making somehow! Enjoy whatever you end up with! If you have any more specific questions feel free to ask away.
@@Nookie94 I keep going back and forth. My heart says Geek 1s (32GB), but my conscience says I live 5 min from Best Buy so I can break the ROG Ally as much as I want. Am I overthinking it?
There is likely a contractual obligation to not sell review devices. Maybe he has to ship them back. It looks he is a collector as well, but my word.... if he went on a ebay selling spree he could likely retire.
Sorry Die-Hard Nintendo Fans, including my wife but this just show how stubborn and dumb they are for not going with AMD for their hardware which could do wonders for software developments on Nintendo Switch/2. The proof is about 3 years old now.
