Bringus Studios was also sent a AYANEO 2S to try out and he found that the screen developed backlight bleed along the right edge, where he (and now the Phawx) found that the screen gets hot. There was no backlight bleed out of the box (as can bee seen in his video) but it developed after a day of testing and leaving it on to download games. He contacted Ayaneo about it and they dismissed his concerns. This makes me wary about picking this up.
They pushed the nit of the original screen to 500 from 400. They shouldn’t have. I’m sure it will be changed in a software update. For now, I just run it at 80-90 percent brightness to avoid this issue. The confusion is if this a TDP thing. Based on my experience it is not
@@watchmejumpstart69 yup. It’s the same panel as the Aya 2. Shouldn’t have been pushed to 500. At this point AYANEO should be stressing not to run it at 100 percent. I’m 50-90 percent but never higher just to be safe.
@@Montytheolailaid they advertise it as 500 nits, as a improvement over the original Ayaneo 2 device? If yes, they should honor it and fully cover any damage done due to people using it the way it's being marketed for, instead of being let off easy and downgrade/cap it.
I got an Ally from Best Buy and it had a backlight bleed immediately just under where the volume buttons were. I went back to Best Buy and within 15 minutes I was at home setting up my new one no questions asked. New one works fine. I have been watching GPD, Ayn, Aya Neo, and others for a while but if none of them have the balls to back up their products with customer service then they aren't worth it. That's why I got a steam deck and now Ally
@@christopherkomer2982 Can't speak to GPD, but AYN and Aya Neo both offer aftermarket customer service. Hell, Aya Neo is still giving away free upgrade kits (heat sinks, speakers, etc.) for purchasers of their earlier model devices right now.
Thanks for the review.. I already have the Ayaneo 2 since March and at the beginning of June I got the free Heat Dissipation Cooling Copper upgrade and did it myself.. as you said it's about 10° cooler which is nice of them to give us for free
You should definitely retest once Bios 320 comes out for the rog ally. Based on Dave2D tests, the rog ally beat the Ayaneo 2s at 15 watts tdp with bios 317.
@watchmejumpstart69 it was in his video. He showed charts and everything. But then asus released bios 319 which reduces performance by 20% to 33%. Asus even said don't update in their dev talk video. They said the performance will be fixed bios 320. Was supposed to come out last week but I guess it may come this week
@watchmejumpstart69 did you watch asus dev video? That explains everything. There are no assumptions on my end. Devs explained why there were big performance decreases with Bios 319 and reported that the next bios update will fix the power draw issue that is affecting performance. Hence, it's safe to conclude bios 320 will resume back to bios 317 performance found in Dave2d video and others. I myself am still on bios 317 and know for a fact I get way higher performance results than what Phawx is getting.
When asus has an update .. ayaneo will too And ayaneo will distroy the ally once again Its just better i tried both, the 2s is better performing Yes its more expensive but better in everything
That was extremely extensive comprehensive and meticulous on I for one applaud you and wish you the best of luck on this channel as it's probably one of the best in this Arena my only question to you sir is how do you feel about how hot The Thermals are away from your finger but how long the right side screen isn't that going to ruin the screen over time depending on people's mileage with their device what did it burn it out that's my only fear
Do you think you could get an example ph a 7640u device? the gpd youtube channel shows off the win max 2 with 7640u performing only slightly slower thsn the 7840u but significantly chesper.
My Ayaneo 2 from January works great and seems like both Ally Z1 and 2s 7840u are not worth considering at all for now, we will see with newer drivers but i'm not confident much will change...the Win Max 2 7840u though, that shows some improvement in performance, and the fact that it also has the bigger battery and it can also be a mini laptop, makes it very interesting
I own gpd max 2 6800u and aya geek. I will say the biggest knock against gpd is the switch style joysticks. The full size sticks on the Neo are phenomenal
The screen is the big downside to this device for me, looks pretty aesthetically but the VRR landscape panel on the Ally is absolutely killer. VRR makes such a huge difference in how good some lower fps ranges feel.
While I would never buy one, Ayaneo certainly knows how to design good looking hardware. Maybe Valve should poach an engineer or three for their next Steam Deck. 😅
Aya Neo is making a new one with trackpads that I believe is set to release late this year. I doubt they'll be as robust as the Deck trackpads though unless they somehow get them integrated with Steam Input natively.
@@bnr32jason i agree, i rather a compact design like the aokzoe a2 and onexfly, most games i play are completely fine with standard controller just as have been playing on console and handhelds like switch, i feel it's more so for those that like those pc specific rts type games, which i never care to play
@@melxb Speaking as someone who does play those games, I think it's insane that anyone would want to play them on a handheld. You need way too many buttons, have to press them too damn fast, and also want a WAY larger screen than 7 or 8 inches. Playing SC2 and AoE on a handheld is a horrible experience.
@yousufalbaker4599 never said rog is better, just that it runs much better than the results shown. Plus, based on testing the ally beats the Ayaneo at 15 watts but loses at 25 watts. Thus, performance is equally good.
They made a design mistake with the ayaneo 2 and now they are selling us the new cooling upgrade with the next model lol 😂 the average lifecycle of an Ayaneo device is 6 months with the full product support. Never ever buying Ayaneo device again . the company gave the free gift kit with the new cooling solution for free to the ayaneo 2 users . normal users won´t be able to exchange the cooling without destroying the device .
No you shouldn't, if you want a better console get A1 PRO, if you dont keep the ally Between aya neo and rog, rog has 120hz + VRR + BFI screen, the only handheld with such screen. But if you want actual upgrade, AOKZOE A1 PRO has 8inch screen [standard 60hz thou], has Magnetic Hall Sensor thumbsticks, has 2280 [standard size] M.2 NVMe support, you can plug even 8tb models they available, rog Ally has small 2230 sized SSD and these only 2tb max and all DRAMLess because they so small AYA NEO is not an upgrade vs rog, its a side grade and you lose brand name, local warranty and potential updates, ASUS will keep supporting this device for years But if you Really want something better especially if you want larger screen, A1 Pro is the answer [it has 32gb ram, 7840U SOC]
I am so fatigued by Aya products. They're a company completely devoid of focus. 1-2 product versions a year, focus on software that's what they should have done rather than the constant parade.
They run on hype, all they want is sales, but at least they offer options. ASUS locking in into single model was a bad choise, for me personally 32gb of ram is a must, bigegr screen is a bonus, 8,9 or 10 inch is preferable [7inch is already not pocketable, so why not go bigger] A1 PRO has everything so far, the only handheld with 8inch screen
It's rather dismissive to call the prices "just $700" when it's only for a few hundred units on early bird pricing.... Especially when the official prices are right next to them
@@AugustineKusiDuah-bk4fr yeah dude I totally have $800 just laying around for a handheld.... Difference is, as opposed to early bird pricing, the ALLY and STEAM DECK will be their base pricing for the foreseeable future, the STEAMDECK even got discounts already.
You are pretty cool.I have watched a few of your videos.I also saw you in a six pack.LOL.That video with six of the most knowledgeable people on handhelds.Okay,I don’t want to buy the Steamdeck,I want something nicer. The Ally was returned.Which handheld do you recommend?
The screen flickering looks really awful. It means they used pulse-width modulation on LCD to regulate brightness. Normally LCDs have DC dimming, which is perfect, but a little bit more expensive. Pulse-width modulation only affects a small minority of people, though, but for them it causes migraines and eye-strain. I had to skip Steam Deck for the same reason. It's a shame than 1000+ dollars device cuts corners on the screen quality to save some money.
Avoid. The response Bringus Studios' got from AYANEO is extremely concerning after his unit was overheating so much that the screen started to shift and caused lightbleed. Do not trust this company.
Their response wasn't concerning. Bringus is just an idiot, and his email was astoundingly terrible. He claimed that the screen developed light bleed from use (which you can't actually see in the video because he didn't show even ONE instance of the device running with the light bleed he supposedly suffered). Assuming that his video was authentic, he also recorded the device's screen externally from the initial boot. To prove that harm was caused from regular use, he simply needed to put two pictures next to each other, one from when he had originally booted the system, and one after the problem was noticeable. Instead, he sends a single picture of a portion of the screen wherein the edge of the image looks brighter than the rest. No one looking at that image would immediately conclude light bleed, especially if you had prior knowledge that the particular area shown is where the light projects and that it usually looks brighter in external screenshots (which their engineers obviously would know). He further claimed (again, with zero evidence) that this was caused by his device's screen running too hot while downloading games with a maxed out TDP. The engineers (apparently more aware of how Steam's downloading works than an actual gamer), listed a general, but practical solution to the heating problem that he should've applied to begin with (had he not forfeited TDP and brightness controls). The marketting rep asked him not to share their email response to his complaint in his video, *not the problem he reportedly had*. She did not say that as a CYA. She said that because the issues he supposedly had are basic aspects of using a laptop PC for gaming. Them telling him basic shit about how to use a computer was to promote his credibility and by extension their product. Him including their response explaining PC gaming fundamentals, and then spending a third of the video bitching about the rep not bending over backwards for his terrible passive-aggressive email shot his credibility into the ground. I clicked on that video the other day because I was specifically looking for problems with a device I was potentially interested in purchasing in the future after they add the Oculink port. I did not learn one goddamn thing about the problems with the device from that video. What I came away with was that "this person does not know how to navigate windows, has zero intention of showing how to operate the device or presenting its strengths and weaknesses, lacks the basic critical thinking skills to perform even rudimentary troubleshooting, and possesses all of the emotional maturity of a petulant nine year-old. This is not a person to be trusted."
@@Castcoder dont need to watch reviews .. i have the ayaneo 2s and my brother have the rog ally .. the 2s is better performing in so many games and is indeed the king of handhelds right now
