ASA and thank you both for sharing this info as well as your lovely recitation of Ayatul Kursi. That said, I went online immediately hoping and praying who I thought it was...and it is. I'm weeping. It's intensely painful to witness the most hateful, misogynist destructive people "claim" Islam and be welcomed. These folks are antithetical to the most valuable, spiritual and beautiful tenets of Islam, yet here we are. The physical and psychic violence such folks inflict harms those at the most marginalized intersections. I'm a darkskinned Black Muslim woman from Africa living in the U.S. Nevertheless, forewarned is forearmed. May The Divine receive and respond to our prayers. 🤲🏿Amn.

Yep, my heart hurts! It physically hurts that he's being welcomed, celebrated, claimed. Too many Muslims on the internet are going "Forgive him! Allah has forgiven him for he is now our brother in faith, in Islam!" Meanwhile, being a woman in Islam is ... the total opposite. We are ridiculed, dragged, mocked, humiliated for just existing! The grace extended to men is always denied to us. It hurts to be a Muslim woman in these spaces.

@@WhatthePatriarchy And he refused to revoke his statements and apologize. Converting does not mean one has the right to forsake responsibility for their actions and to not fix their wrongs. In light of this, it scares me that many Muslims are not reflecting on why someone like him might be drawn to ‘Islam’, what kind of so called ‘Islam’ he is drawn to, what kind of Islam ‘Muslims’ who are drawn to him and HOPE for his conversion follow, and what we can do to delegitimize it.

Was literally just about to write what you said in your second paragraph! I'm fairly confident he converted *because* of what so many Muslims have convinced him is legitimate in Islam, the patriarchy he's such a fan of! One of the first things he posted after conversion was that sexist hadith about there being more women in hell or that women are deficient in intellect and spirituality and such!

@@WhatthePatriarchy you've articulated PRECISELY what is additionally injurious about how he and those like him are hailed as beloved kin. When my hair is covered, there are those who take issue with the manner it's worn. When my hair is uncovered (like now), there are some sisters who are sisterly, while others use it as a reason to misperceive me as "lesser" Muslima in service to patriarchal approval. Meanwhile, I know what I've endured and the existential crises it has wrought when I regard even the men in my family and how they are "in good standing" seemingly regardless of what they do (and don't do). I'd appreciate it if men of faith and conscience would assert that this is opposite of what Prophet Muhammad (saw) would approve. It shouldn't be a cover for religious "freedom" for those who want to harm and abuse with impunity, particularly since Islam germinated where it did as a direct corrective of rampant injustice in the region.

My heart. Yep, I totally feel that. And I feel it viscerally. It's hard not to feel like too many Muslim just absolutely hate us (and it's not just Muslim men, obviously - men in all patriarchies are taught that, and there's a different kind of misogynistic hate that we experience living in, say, the U.S. at the hands of too many (non-Muslim) American men of any and no religious backgrounds as well). It's so heartbreaking. I wish Muslim men of faith and conscience would reflect on these issues the way we are forced to constantly.

Thanks, Hamida - I’d like to ask you again to please not rush me. My time is divided between many, many commitments and obligations. I assure you I will get to you when I have a moment and I promise we will talk like I said in my email to you. It’s just a matter of finding a good time between our different continents and time zones and my availabilities - I also don’t check my public email daily and don’t respond to emails right away, but I do get to them when works for me. ❤️

@@WhatthePatriarchy Oh I'm sorry if I made u feel pressurized. It's okay I understand your situation. The reason why I posted this comment now that because yesterday I attended a zoom session with professor Asma Barlas in which she explained about marriage, family relations nisa 4:34 and all. I asked about verses 24:31 and 33:59 ,she responded so i just wanted to share her response and my thoughts with you. Again it's okay I'll wait take your time and let me know through an email when you are free☺

I’m quite baffled by your statements tbh. When you say you’re terrified that Andrew Tate was accepted by Muslims, was he accepted on the basis of his jaahil views, or was he accepted because he was a strong (insofar as vocal without caring about public opinion) character who, if introduced to Islamic concepts more succinctly, can allow Muslims to reclaim their Islamic identity? Unless of course “Islamic concepts” don’t exist in your framework. What kind of reaction is this? When Umar reverted to Islam, despite being a burier of girls, was he not accepted and didn’t our beloved’s face rejoice? Wasn’t this even the duaa of our Rasool? I’m not quite sure what presumptions your basing your thoughts upon, but perhaps they can be elaborated upon slightly. I’m genuinely quite baffled. Jazakhallah khair.
@WhatthePatriarchy

What's baffling? I'm not mad someone converted to Islam - Islam isn't any one person's to own so it's open for everyone to choose. I plan to make another video on why his conversion to Islam is harmful, why HE is harmful to humanity, so I won't get into detail here, but a) have you seen what he has to say about women (including making comments like he'd stone his wife to death if she cheated on him? b) he has tweets in his past where he makes statements like he wishes he were Muslim because [insert all the misogynistic hadiths about women so his misogynistic violence is validated by Islam!]; c) he has openly publicly admitted to assaulting women, his webcam company hires only his girlfriends as models (seemingly by compulsion) and he STILL is involved in the webcam business (he takes a huge chunk of his former girlfriends' salary working for his webcam studio), and so on - and he has no remorse about it, and no, converting to Islam didn't help make him better but only makes it worse because he uses a very violent interpretation of Islam to justify his actions and beliefs. But besides all this, have you seen how he dresses? What he posts on his social media still? If not, we shouldn't be having this discussion here. If yes, then ask yourself very honestly: what do Muslims (the same ones worshipping him now) do to Muslim women who dress like that, who speak like that? He still talks about having sex with women (as an unmarried man) - what do we do to Muslim women who have sex before marriage? What do we do to them when they show their HAIR let alone any skin like legs or arms? Andrew Tate lives with his gf to whom he's not married, and what are Muslim dudes who shame and harass and punish women for literally just existing letting alone having boyfriends or romantic partners before marriage saying about it? "It's none of our business." Great, why is it anyone's business when we muslim women do things like have boyfriends and live with them before marriage then? If you'd like to hear more about what I have to say on the sexist double standards of our community, praising men for sleeping with women outside of marriage and treating them as heroes and role models OR EVEN if they sexually assault women (!!) vs treating women who do such harmless stuff as lead prayers, show their hair, show legs, be active on social media, be feminist, be vocal, here's a video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v2ciFqqxgqw.html

Interesting definition of beauty! But isn’t the purpose of hijab according to patriarchal ppl like you to HIDE the woman’s beauty and make her look undesirable to men who have no self-control?… but also, I don't have to be beautiful, and neither do you, if it means you must cover when you don't want to 💕 Be yourself - that's the ultimate beauty.
