WOW had never thought that a lady could sing this Thumri with such elan, had always thought that it was the forte of Ustaad Badeghulam Ali saheb. And yes Sri Ambi is no less. Agree with Dipankarji that the Sarangi should indeed have been muted. I would have expected Sri Katti would have realised it.
Back then, in the 1950's in Lahore, little did BGAK know how gracefully future generations will multiply his classic into "Dimensions Beyond Infinity". This rendition by KC highlights those dimensions, Sindh Bharvi and beyond. Thanks you KC Ji.
Music is an institution beyond limits. One can beautifully enhance it using beyond limits thoughts. This Thumri, initially set up by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib, in Sindh Bharvi, became a love of many beautiful singers. In this rendition by K. C. I sense number of raags initially in the alaap. I love it. That's what a creative musician and singer would do. Ustad Amanat Ali, Nusrat Ali, and many others dream up a variation from the original composition, and then return to it. My love to lovers of mosiqi..
More than excellent, Kaushiki; and the supportive artists rather the teamwork is really very much praiseworthy; the audience should think that this duet/fusion is not going with the formula rather going with kheyal/mood and, this is actually the creative form; here the violinist brother Ambi had also delivered his creative approach to that extent and, Kaushiki's voice matching with the combination of notes is beyond excellence; brother Ambi also followed her where necessary and, again, he also went with a different path again Kaushiki nourished other notes with due care to make the music enriched, soothing and tranquil. Hearty Best Wishes to all the artists and Ms. Sanjari Gupta Ji

@@abcxyz7847 Don't bring religion into this. You can criticize him without taking his religion into consideration. This thumri was written by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, a Muslim, by criticizing this person, you are actually insulting the creator of this song , and you have no right to do that.
This can be regarded as one of the finest example of how a performance can not achieve its potential limit... with all due respect to the tabla accompanist ... the rhythm (chhanda) could have been adjusted. Hal dhora r boitha tana ki ek ?
The sarangi alaap piece at the outset is predominantly KAIRANI. Koshki's alaap materially differs. When it ends, sarangi repeats Kairani!!!! Can someone say on what raga this composition is based, or BGAK has left an artistic ambiguity for all times to come. Momin's ghazal was composed and sung by BGAK's brother. Ghulam Ali re-sung it.
Barkat Ali Khan sahab used to sing this as a thumri composed on bhairavi. Here, Kaushiki ji seems to be using a mix of yaman and bihaag. I thought I recognized a touch of bilawal also around 5:22 but I am not sure about this.
