Tamilians don't be stupid. Stick to your language. We, herein Maharashtra are suffering the consequence of accepting Hindi. Today we feel like foreigners in our own state.
nir913 that's not true..My mother tongue is tamizh, born and brought up in mumbai, as u knw English hindi marathi are the languages we were taught..I love all of them,especially marathi..During summer vacations I learnt tamizh frm my mother...I am happy that I can read write and speak in all the languages I've learnt...In mumbai the use of marathi is less accepted, since we have people frm diff states here..but when we go rest of the places in the outskirts of mumbai eg vasai,virar definitely we can speak in marathi..Be happy that u knw many languages..Each language has its own beauty ☺☺
Not spoken in Mumbai explains it all!! State language not spoken in State capital. Learn every language on the back of the earth. Just do not impose replace our languages. We have nothing to do with Hindi. Do not force us to learn it.

Till early to mid 90s states like UP, MP wer marginally richer compared to tamil nadu. There was need to learn hindi prior to globalization. Over the time south indian staTes became richer. Still article 351 is in force in our constitution. My view is at school level we should learn an additional language. Need not be hindi. It will make us culturally tolerant
I don't really understand why they bring in English all the time to these kinda of discussion. English has its place as the business language. The issues they are talking about is pushing Hindi as India's national language. English will not replace the regional languages of India since its just an business language but if Hindi is made the national language it will damage the regional languages.

You have to understand that Sanskrit is used in temples because the Sanskrit mantras pronounced in a certain way set up vibrations that are holy. Our ancient rishis discovered these in deep meditation. Again you've missed the whole self-respect argument. Nobody opposes hindi in TN just its compulsion in government communication and learning. Doesn't mean that TN government prevents Hindi learning at all. There are DBHPS if you want to learn funded by the central government

what about Indian Muslims studying Arabic & Urdu in India? Arabic is no way related to India. DMK never bothered abt that. But they only bother if Tamilians (other than their own relatives) study Hindi. Periyar was very much against Sanskrit but he never talked a word against Arabic/ Urdu in Tamilnadu, which are actually foreign languages compared to Hindi or Sanskrit.
And why did DMK bother with allowing Saurashtrian schools for Saurashtrian in Madurai or Telugu schools for Telugu students or Odiya for Odiya students? TN is the only state where you are guaranteed schooling in your mother tongue. Btw not Arabic just Urdu which is available all across India for Urdu speaking Muslims.
தோழமை தமிழர் The original Quran is written in Arabic & that's why Muslims study Arabic especially to read Quran. There are Arabic classes conducted mainly in Mosques all over India & Muslims compulsorily attend them, so that they can read Quran; whether they speak Arabic or not, they learn the language.

If Tamilians go to any other state for work, they find it difficult to communicate including the IAS / IPS officers & later they learn Hindi becoz to survive. Sanskrit is the mother of Hindi. If you know Sanskrit, anybody can learn Hindi easily. By the way, some British & Americans schools has compulsory Sanskrit Chantings in their schools. Just search in RU-vid, you will be amazed how Europeans are chanting in Sanskrit and doing Yogas. Muslims schools are keeping Arabic or Urdu as compulsory language. Some non-Muslim children are also studying that if they are in that school especially in Middle-east. Can a Hindu tell that he/she don't want to study compulsory Arabic in Muslim countries? @8:00, Ragavan & Pande were correctly saying that nobody is forced to learn Hindi or Sanskrit. Whoever wants to learn it can do so & if you are planning to go to any other state or middle-east for work, then learn Hindi for your own benefit. My opinion is if Tamil is 2nd language then Hindi/ Sanskrit can be studied as 3rd Language in schools till 8th std, so that children can have some awareness....

How many of them who are coming to Chennai have learnt Tamil before coming here?? So why must I care? What about the people in village, who will never even go out of their district ? Why should you burden them with Hindi? Let British or Americans have what ever they want , why should it matter to me? They have beef in their menu too, so would you advocate for beef n schools ? What do you mean by Muslims schools? Schools ran by Muslims or religious school ran by Muslims , you are wrong ,the former has no such compulsory language in India, Arabic is a living language , which is administrative language in arab countries of course they need to learn it , but my dear Sanskrit is not administrative language in India , so we don't want to learn Sanskrit as compulsory language. Who the F speaks Hindi in middle East ???? If I want to go and work in karnataka Banglore or telangana Hyderabad or kerala ,why should I learn Hindi. India ranks 92 in education among 145 countries. In education sector, our country ranks 92, which is way behind the ranks of other developing countries such as Phillipines (76), Malaysia (51), Sri Lanka (59) and many more. In a country like India govt propsing 3 language system is not good idea. First of all we need standard education in mother tongue along with global business and science language English. It is enough to have just two now. To most of the Students of a country like us It would be not practical to spend exra time again in third language. A student can spend their valuable time in other subject instead of learning theird language. When our country ranks within top 10 in education then govt may encourage students to learn 3 or many language (Even then it should not be directly or indirectly imposed). All north Indian students should try to learn any one of south indian language and vice versa. I think that would be healthy and fair. Think of India's population. Think of economic and social diversity of students. Keep it in mind that most of our country's students are first generation to enter to schools and colleges. Foremost our country needs standard quality eduation in two language. It would be cruel to impose three language. In three language scenario why should a student should fail if he/she passes on all other subject and fail in third language subject ( for eg Hindi) . Learning third language is always extra burden to most of our poor children. right? Keep the rule simple. Give priority to what is priority.

If you live in North, you learn Hindi. The real problem is in the rural areas, hinterland. Language has nothing to do with India's ranking in education sector. India spends an abysmal 3.8% of its GDP on Education. Malaysia spends more than 5% while even a country like Bhutan spends more than 7%! Modi is the PM of India today. He is from Gujarat and his mother tongue is Gujarati, not Hindi. yet, he was able to win votes in the "hindi" belt due to his knowledge of hindi. Narasimha Rao was well conversant in Hindi. DMK is living in a time warp. I think India should have several national languages which it already does! This penchant for single nation, single language etc is a Western concept. Indians are multilingual by nature. I am sure you already know Marathi, Hindi and English. I am a Tamilian and know Hindi, Tamil and English. My wife,in addition knows Malayalam and Telugu! Let us keep it that way. That is our strength. Making one language as national language makes it obligatory to learn that language. That is not democracy.
