Actually, demonstrations continue in several Iranian cities. And last evening, police forces attacked University of Sharif, which is one of the most prestigious technical universities in Tehran. A number of students were beaten and a number of them, tens of them were arrested.
This is the first time that a lot of discontent spread throughout the country. We have economic discontent. We have political discontents and cultural ones. And also, for the first time, women and their rights and their demands are at the forefront of the demonstrations and the demands of the entire population. And there are a lot of men, especially young men, who took to the streets in support of women's rights. And so this is the first time that this is happening in Iran.
Unfortunately, we should be waiting for more repression from the regime. The leader just finally spoke out and he accused foreign powers, quote unquote, to be who have to have investigate in instigated sorry, foreign powers to have instigated all these revolts. And so the message was that we will continue to repress. And this is absolutely as terrible as terrifying.
I'm here today to ask Madame la Presidente, Mrs. President, and also the representatives of the European Union to support the Iranian people's plight for democracy, for freedom and against political Islam.
At this point, only symbolic support, I think, is important, but it's not enough. You know, I think that EU the EU should take really measures to show the Iranian regime that democratic societies and democratic regimes are supporting the plight of Iranian people, for democracy and for freedom.

The widespread and disproportionate use of force against nonviolent protesters in Iran is “unjustifiable and unacceptable,” the European Union said Sunday.
A 22 year old woman was killed in Iran because of the mandatory hijab. The European Union has raised concerns about a woman in Iran who died after being stopped for allegedly breaking hijab rules.
Mahsa Amini, 22, was detained by Iran's morality police for "unsuitable attire" last week and later died after falling into a coma.
“People in Iran, as anywhere else, have the right to peaceful protest. That right must be ensured in all circumstances,” EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in a statement, referring to nine days of protests over the death in police custody of Masha Amini, a young woman.
The EU and its member states urged Iranian authorities to strictly abide by the principles enshrined in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Iran is a party.
“We expect Iran to immediately stop the violent crackdown on protests and ensure internet access, as well as the free flow of information. Furthermore, we expect Iran to clarify the number of deaths and arrested, release all non-violent protestors and provide due process to all detainees,” it added.
It added that the killing of Amini, 22, must be duly investigated and anyone proved responsible for her death must be held accountable.
Amini died in mysterious circumstances after being detained and taken to the headquarters of the morality police in the capital Tehran last week.
At least 41 people have been killed in the protests, which have in recent days taken a violent turn, especially in Tehran.
Many Western countries have issued strongly worded statements in recent days over Amini's death in police custody, demanding impartial investigations.
On Saturday, Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi called for "decisive action" against unruly protesters, while the armed forces and intelligence ministry also issued stern warnings in separate statements.
