I think it's more because of what people enjoy now; no offense to the current artists, but they all sound like sellouts who make crappy music to me. I'm happy they're doing well, but I don't like how hip-hop and rap sound now (most of it, anyway). There are artists who will never gain spotlight in the underground who can run circles around these young-come-up artists lyrically, but popular songs from those genres rarely hold substance like they had the potential to before.

Azealia Banks is SO far ahead of these mainstream artists. First off, she produced this album herself because she cares very much about her fanbase and Interscope weren't letting her do as she pleased. She took it into her own hands and created such a phenomenal album, a feat that these mainstream artists could not do independently. Secondly, her album is so diverse and each song has a deep meaning. The only reason why some people have problems with her rapping is because you actually have to study her lyrics and analyze her flow and every rhyme, unlike some artists (Iggy, to be specific) who are so generic in their raps. People would rather listen to basic rap music with someone else singing the chorus because they don't want to go through the trouble of actually analyzing the lyrics when rap, in my opinion, supposed to be studied. They just want something catchy and easy to sing/rap to. Thirdly, Azealia's attitude "is bitchy, but you already knew that". She's a strong, independent artist who left her label because they were preventing her from do what she wanted to do with her OWN album. She doesn't give two shits about anyone who comes for her because she will shut them down and move on with her life. She's unique for her attitude because she only has her fans and herself to hold her down. When Snoop Dogg came for Iggy, people were all over that. When T.I.'s below-mediocre ass came for Azealia, nobody really heard about it. Her fans, including myself, will hold her down and commend her for her attitude because she has to be strong as an independent artist. Lastly, for all of those who are just finding out about Azealia, please look into Broke With Expensive Taste because I guarantee you that it will grab your attention if you liked "Chasing Time". If you're here to talk shit about Azealia, find your log out button and leave RU-vid because you can't come for Azealia when she's doing her thing independently and you favor a mainstream artist who has everything handed to them, including lyrics *cough*. And, please, DO NOT compare Azealia to Nicki Minaj or Iggy Azalea because they are not on the same plane as Azealia Banks; when you're mainstream because you make basic raps for basic people, you cannot be compared to someone with deep lyrics, perfect rhyme patterns and alliteration, and a unique rap flow. Yes but as a fan, I would love for her to be better known so she's in a good place financially.
