Dan Zabo that is such typical ignorant behavior, as if there aren't white men who are in jail or who can't support a family or who don't commit violent acts! If you did a little research you'd see that there are more Caucasian men and women imprisoned than any other race, just because it's not televised doesn't mean they don't attribute to the crime and fatherless people in America. So know your people before talk about anyone else's. Thank you

Same goes for whites. It’s about class and money.

Beautiful Unicorn you can use it. just add something to it and don't pretend you created it, which is what whites have historically done to black cultural creations. And it seems that blacks are the only ones that this happens with. They not only appropriate black culture, but then they also erase the black image from their own cultural creations by imitating blacks and ridiculing blacks for it at the same time. So the fetishization/caricaturization and ridicule(sometimes in the form of minstrelsy) and imitation and (final) erasure are two sides of the same coin.

There is appropriation of black culture. What we do and create its popular amongst ourselves but when some white person does it it becomes "OMG, MILEY HAS REALLY BROUGTH ON THE NEW TWERKING TREND, ALL GIRLS LOVE TO TWERK NOW" when black woman, who twerk better than white girls hwve been twerking since the 80s and have actual juicy asses to make it worth the watch. Or when Kendall had the mini box braids in her hair and some magazine posted " Kendall, bring bold braids to a epic new level" when different braids style were already being accomplished by black woman and girls for centuries. It sounds silly to claim such trivial things like these but it's the principal and the point of that some white people are actually clueless when it comes to other culture. If it's not something they see themeselves doing then it doesn't matter or they're just oblivious to it. But if you call them out on it they look confused and say you're pullong the race card. same thing with Iggy, reason why I don't like her is NOT because she's white but because she doesn't come off as genuine and respectful to art that is black. But it's more so not with her but with The Media (white media) gassing her up to be this next big thing when she barely had an album out. This's bitch had no album out and Forbes was already calling her the best, and the queen of rap when LYRCIALLY IGGY SUCKS COMAPRED TO NICKI AND Azealia Banks. Nicki Minaj came out around 2009 but she's wasn't NICKI MINAJ until 2011 2012. Iggy comes out and the media is already giving this girl alcolades the bitch didn't even have nor worked for. I get it, IGGY Azealia is like a gift to white people and that's ok. As human beings you flock to the person who looks more like you. But the some white people, amd the media (white media) need to stop appropriating our culture and our very being and trying to sell it to the world as if your favorite white hip hop, R&B, soul artist are the prime examples and the catalyst for shit we've been doing and still do and obviosuly do better.

EVERYBODY'S culture is appropriated. She is wearing a wig in this very interview to emulate hair she doesn't have. Every day we black people go to school for jobs and work at jobs that they or their ancestors DID NOT INVENT. And HipHop would not even be what it is today if it had not started in America so really it is everybody's culture. Hiphop is written in ENGLISH language and samples WHITE musician's music recorded by machines created by WHITE PEOPLE. We didn't create the recording studio..whites did..so if it wasn't for them NOBODY would be able to record music. Whites buy the music in higher volumes than blacks as well. My point is that blacks and whites had to work together to make HipHop happen. Then banks criticizes Iggy for doing the SAME thing Nicki does. Nicki is hyper sexualized (Anaconda!!!!) and displays several characters. Banks is posing for PLAYBOY but says that Iggy is being hyper sexual??? Dontay Davis I don't think whites crated everything but I do know that that a lot of what they did create we are using to the fullest. But AZAELIA BANKS doesn't get a pass and here is why: she is so aware and so pro black then why in the HELL would you CONTINUE TO PERPETUATE THESE "EUROCENTRIC STANDARDS"?????????????????????????????? Why would you still look like MASSA?????? Why would you not encourage young black girls to go natural to discontinue this brainwashing???? THAT IS HYPOCRISY "She said she tired of mediocre white coming in hip hop and selling when some great blacks can not." Dude are you not aware of the bullshit music that comes from BLACK PEOPLE????? Migos, Bobby Schurda, Waka Flaka, Trinidad James etc. Those are the wack ass artists that have allowed other wack artists to have a shot in the first place. Hiphop SUCKS and its been that way loooooong before Iggy. Who is ridiculing black women for having nice bodies/features??? What station does that come on bc I want to watch it. They haven't done that n YEARS. Dude you are simping for a hypocrite that plays pro black but FUCKS/SUCKS WHITE DUDES. Jazz and Rock are white now bc WE LEFT. Weaves were a necessity that became a style. Just like soul food, sagging pants, crowns(gold and platinum teeth), and etc. So now since she been wearing weaves since she was young, she's wearing it for style and also I'm sure theirs some internalized racism. Also, mediocre black music is not getting put up for awards and being called the queen or king of hip hop that's the difference come on now don't play dumb. Also, come on so you telling me there are all good images of black women on tv or the media. If there are black women on tv they are most likely bi-racial or light skinned. Come on be real now. Don't act like you having heard the messages that black women or the least attractive women. Come on now get real. Also, people left jazz and rock n roll because of the same situation that's happening now. Mediocre white music came along and ran rampant in jazz and rock. Stations played white music more and they were stealing black songs. Man, this is simple shit that you can read up on.

I aint agreeing with everything she says... but she kinda has a point.. a lot of black women naturally have curves. black men loved it. but it was seen as out of shape n a eyesaw to the majority of white ppl. along comes kim K & iggy azealia with these bodies and all of a sudden its a mainstream trend. to a point where "all about that bass" (a song which talks about having a phat ass) becomes a #1 hit. Big lips were seen as ugly, until angelina jolie comes along and rich women started filling their lips with shit to have big lips. recently zendaya coleman was ridiculed live on air because of her dreadlocks "i bet she smells like weed" one grammy host said... kylie jenner went and got a shit excuse of dreadlocks sewn onto her head and magazines called it "edgy and new". as if black people hadnt been getting turned away from good opportunities for the same hair. not everything she says is right but she makes some sense

What she's trying to say is she's tired of the white race being praised for their black assets. For instance, white culture want fuller lips and are praised for it, but black women have had fuller lips for centuries, and was never recognized for it. Black cultures and it's not only Black Cultures that are pushed under the rug, but what she's trying to say is that we've recognized it and it's tiring. What happened to world peace?

dior bailey Hip - Hop sprang from the impoverished black and Latino projects of New York City. White people had no hand creating Hip Hop's culture until they saw they could make viable profit. One does not appropriate technology unless it is tied culturally. There's no cultural connection to a computer, turntables, or microphones. It's technology patented by one or many that are not cultures unto themselves. Me using a lamp isn't a culture. And those technologies evolved with help from cultures all over the world. Asians practically run the internet, engineering, and Space exploration and have contributed considerable knowledge surpassing their white peers in those endeavors. You have no clue what you're saying.
@hatchibyebye
@hatchibyebye 9 лет назад
Dummy, you can't appropriate a dominant culture. You can only assimilate. A black woman wears a wig because of centuries and centuries of brainwashing that her distinct features are ugly, and that the only way she can get ahead is if she resembles closer to a black person. Same with the English language, dumbass. Quite insensitive to even liken that with appropriation when her ancestors were stripped of their native culture and language. Go read a book.
@hatchibyebye
@hatchibyebye 9 лет назад
***** Well there are many reasons for a black woman to wear a weave. From the women, I know, the claim it helps hair grow/protects black hair. And given that black hair is not suited to European climate, I believe it. It's unfair for you to shame black women who wear wigs and weaves. No only are afros seen as unattractive but they are seen as unprofessional. And for women in the working world, appearance is so important.

elm1230 I know where hiphop came from. My point is that it was started IN America which still makes it American culture. The content, the message, the influences of hiphop came from American History and American Experiences. If hiphop was created in ANY other country it would not be what it is today. When you got to a hiphop concert people of all races are there spending there money and reciting the songs. You are referring to hiphop as if it was a sub-culture but since its mainstream it is not. You act like hiphop is some weird trend that only young blacks and hispanics celebrate. Hiphop is bigger than country AND rock. When it transcends those genres it is no longer a black only art form.

***** Not all cultures come from black culture. And the ones that do that get plagiarised and re-branded like country music and rock&roll evolve into sub-genres unto themselves. You missed my whole point dummy. Let me break it down for you in a simpler way; If I, a black man from Nairobi Kenya, who's never been to the US suddenly decides to move to Texas and launch a Country Music career, singing with that old folk country twang blatantly trying to sound like I grew up in Mississippi or somewhere like that, would I be seen as authentic or as a parody/imitation of country music? She raises some interesting points about cultural appropriation and the stigma felt by a minority verses the fetishisation enjoyed by the empowered majority over the same traits. Yet I can't agree with her over her desire to segregate Black culture from the rest of the world, which for the most part is governed by White culture. To me culture is an ideal; a coalescence of feelings that can't be herded, it bleeds into people crosses all walks of life. I'd much rather we as a species give Black culture its due and let it blend into whatever it will become in the future.

ASM _ First of all, this is not real capitalism in its ideological sense, artist are getting robbed. Second of all, this is not just an issue of what you call "capitalism". White supremacy ensures that white people own the record labels and white supremacy means that a white mediocre "rapper" like Iggy Azalea can sell double to what black rappers can. Britain and the USA were built on the enslavement of black people and the robbery of African countries, while installing an ideology of white supremacy. What do you mean you don't owe us anything??? I feel very disconnected from what Banks is saying. Perhaps it's because I'm white and English, but I personally don't see myself as living as a white person, and those types of ideas never pop into my head. All I hear is Banks saying white people are doing this, and white people are doing that. I'm white, but I don't give a shit about what anything she's saying nor am I stealing black culture. I feel that she comes off as very ignorant in that respect and by labeling all white people with the same brush, she's just going to push white people away from her points of view and music. If she just separated the race issue from her music and focused on social issues, I would be in agreement with her. It feels to me that she's upset about "white appropriation" because Iggy Azalea has sold more records than her, not solely because black people are disadvantaged. By bringing up shitty pop feuds that nobody really should care about, she's just trivializing the issue.

'We don't want you in, the same we you didn't want us in.' Azealia Banks did you just say that you want to be racist the same way the majority of white people used to be racist? You're arguing that you're not a racist but contradict yourself by saying that the way races make music should be segregated and different and individual to that particular race. You are the modern racist - a biggoted and twisted girl who beleives that black and white people cannot share the same traits. You say we HAVE to segregate. You sicken me.

The responses to this interview just go to show that no matter "nicely" people talk about issues like race, it makes no difference. She's so calm in this interview(because this is one of the rare times people aren't baiting to antagonize her) and people are still perceiving so much hostility from her.

When I first started hearing of Azealia I really did not like her. I thought her music was overrated and she was just gaining a following through twitter shade. But after listening to her interviews and getting some insight into her mind and listening to her music again, she's actually one of my favorite artists. She has some insightful things to say and is VERY underrated. If people can get past the shock value and their own mindsets, they'll see that she's very smart and has a lot of truth to spill when it comes to the state of America, our view on Black culture, and more than just a typical artist. I really hope she gets the recognition she deserves.

She's not racist, she just wants to preserve whats left of her culture. Yeah, she says white rappers shouldn't act black, but that's because they're characterizing black culture and making it theirs. She has a good point of view on equality, and you'd understand if you just don't be too narrow-minded about these problems.

Y'all do realize that when she says "white people" or "all white people", she doesn't literally mean ALL white people. If you don't appropriate black culture (or any other culture for that matter) than what she says doesn't apply to you. She's talking about the people that do appropriate cultures. But I do agree that sometimes she can go a little overboard, but that's just because she wants more people to listen to what she's saying, so y'all can get educated. And not y'all saying that she's being a hypocrite because of her wearing weave/wigs lmao. Y'all honestly sound so dumb and ignorant when you say things like that. Because we all know that if Azealia wouldn't wear wigs or weave, and kept her hair natural, everybody would be clowning her. A lot of black people wear weave and wigs, because society makes us feel like if we don't have perfect, smooth, soft hair, than were ugly. She's only 23 and she has made a name for herself. No matter how much you dislike her, you cannot deny that she has talent, because not many people can spit like her. She's a true rapper who's pushing down boundaries.

What really annoys me is that if we're all from the same planet then who the fuck actually cares what belongs to to whoever. It's ours and we all have the right to choose what we do and how we can express whatever there is to express regardless of skin colour/ethnicity/religion etc. It just really upsets me to see people still having a problem with people's skin colour, who the fuck actually cares we're from the same place. @McArio1
@McArio1 7 лет назад
first time I heard there is such a thing like a "white language", which is weird since I´ve been teaching linguistics for a while. It exists the "indoeuropean" language family, though, spoken mostly by asians. The English language as well as most of the european languages are part of this family. You see how easy is to fight against ignorance?
@guileniam
@guileniam 7 лет назад
McArio1 shes speaking a white language, English is west germanic Anglo saxon. What does the history of english and its language family indoeuropean have to do with it? By that logic we're all african since humanity comes from Africa. Point is everyone has a shot to partake in what is created by a race, no one can say this is ours only, only that it ours in origin.
@McArio1
@McArio1 7 лет назад
Dizzy Blu Your are dumb and you don´t even know it. Linguistics is the science that studies languages and they -linguists- already clasified most of the world languages. Almost all european languages are indo-european, that´s the family name. "White language" is not a category that linguist scientist use because it doens´t work that way. It´s like saying "white blood". It doesn´t exist: only A, B, AB and O. Those are the SCIENTIFIC CATEGORIES. Do you get it now?
@guileniam
@guileniam 7 лет назад
McArio1 blah blah. I dont know why youre going on a tirade, like I said Im not white so I have no interest in white nationalism, suffice to say I hate it, but the point is one cannot start screaming about cultural appropriation when one is assimilated into that very culture themselves. I have no idea what vomiting and shitting in Cancun has to do with anything and most of all your analogies are incorrect: Steve Jobs is part syrian and they arent really arab, whilst the indo-arab numbers arent indo-arab but Indian (Hindu). And Hindus and syrians (well no, Steve jobs using your bizarre analogy- you do know he was born and raised in the US right?) dont scream about other people using their 'inventions' like this woman here. You seem to have an anti american bias more than anything.
