About a month ago, I stumbled upon @FlautistAcacia 's AMAZING demo that she came up with if Chasing Daybreak from fe3h was a musical, and I. WAS. OBSESSED!! With her permission, I decided to do a cover of her demo which you can find here: • (DEMO) Chasing Daybrea...
OKAY, now lemme discuss why I love her demo so much. First, she used the countermelodies from both the Rain and Thunder versions around 4:11 to emulate how musical songs have several layers of vocals on top of one another, which I think is GENIUS. Second, having Byleth at 4:18 as the lead vocalist while the Blue Lions and Gilbert sing in the background is fitting since it's as if everyone is fighting under Byleth's command.
Since Acacia did an amazing job, I wanted to do her idea justice. For example, I tried to sing with the lowest voice I could for Dimitri, but my vocal range just doesn't go that low LOL so I compromised by "sing-speaking" his parts as dramatic and unhinged as I can. I also got the chance to explore the higher range of my voice due to Byleth in particular. While that part is an octave lower in the demo, I wanted to sing higher because 1) it would be easier to distinguish Dimitri and Byleth's voices when they sing together and 2) Byleth belting out the notes to expresses a raw feeling of desperation and frustration due to Dimitri's feral state. In theory, I thought it was awesome; in practice, it was a nightmare since I'm definitely not vocally trained to sing that high, but, after many takes of voice cracking, and awful breath control, I somehow managed!
