I DON'T think you pressure cook it😳 Ingredients: 8 oz. Glass Bottle or Jar 7 Vanilla Beans 1 cup Vodka 70 Proof/35% Alcohol (or you can also use Bourbon, Rum or Brandy; any brand/quality) Step 1: SLICE Slice each bean once long-ways and place in bottle. (If it helps to cut them into smaller, tootsie roll-sized pieces so they fit in the bottle more easily, go for it). Step 2: POUR Pour one cup of vodka, rum or alcohol of your choice (no cheating now -- the whole cup needs to go into the bottle). Make sure vanilla beans are completely submerged. Step 3: SHAKE Shake once or twice a week - for best results, shimmy to the beat of "Rock Lobster" by the B52's. Step 4: WAIT Wait about 8 weeks (plenty of time to research oodles of scrumptious Baking Recipes) Presto, your alcohol has turned into delicious vanilla! Store it at room temp and out of direct sunlight, and you can enjoy this puppy til' the last drop!
Oh wow amazing instructions, thank you thank you! It’s almost like I messed up by doing too much lol! I also only added 3 beans per jar so perhaps that’s why it wasn’t concentrated enough. Alas, I must try again! Thanks for taking the time to share with me 👍❤️
Thank you for sharing. I love seeing what others are ordering. 😊 I really want to make the leap and try honey. I had a honey I bought years ago from somewhere and I didn’t care for the flower 🌸flavor.
I love seeing what others are ordering as well! Thanks for watching :) The honey is really delicious from Azure for sure and I've tried raw honey from many sources with some being great and others just okay. I would recommend the orange honey if you found the flower one off-putting in the past...I agree it is strong and sometimes you don't necessarily want that type of honey flavor.
Hello, Mulberry and grape molases with walnuts are such a great snack and/or breakfast addition. (I also tried this with raw almonds. Not as good as with walnuts but good enough.) Dipping cucumber slices to mulberry molasses - again such a great way to consume molasses: the freshness of cucumbers balances the sweetness of molases. You know how little kids love to do everything adults do:)) We make 'tea' by adding a teaspoon of molasses to 100ml warm-ish water and sip it during breakfast or at tea-time:)) Makes kids happy + they have extra nutrition:)) Mixing tahini with mulberry or grape molases is also another great way of consuming them. I don't have the measurements, I just go with texture and taste. Being able to spread on a slice of bread is the consistency I look for when mixing them. But it is all about taste and preferences. I know molases in US is mostly from sugarcane or sugar beet, and I never had molases from them, but I thought the way we consume fruit based molases might be applicable to sugarcane/beet molases, or at least I'd give an idea... :)
wow this is fascinating thank you for taking the time to write this out for me! I have never tried fruit molasses but by the way you say you pair it with things it sounds inherently more delicious than molasses from cane sugar! I think I could get used to cane sugar molasses more if I used it more (it's a must in homemade BBQ sauce!).
I tried to make my own vanilla, I started in July and it still taste like vodka and I just realized I didn’t cut the beans 🤦♀️ The apple juice infused cranberries is a favorite in our house!!
Aw ya it’s a bummer!! I even cut my beans and it didn’t work... hmm 🤔 who knows! Lol vanilla is so expensive though it would be nice to figure it out one day 😂 Yes best cranberries!!
I have been using azure for 11 years. I mostly buy bulk grains from them. Thick rolled oats, sorghum, teff, potato starch , psyllium husk powder for gluten free baking.
Wow that’s amazing! I wish I knew about them for that long! I guess they’re doing something right :) I’ve never tried sorghum or teff before.. I’ll have to look into those. Appreciate your comment ❤️
Easiest way to make vanilla extract is just slice the vanilla pod down the center but not all the way through just enough to expose the seeds, and place in a glass jar with vodka. It takes about 4-6 months to extract and blend (I go the full 6 months). I make two at a time then use one for my go to and top it off from the other one as I use it up then top that bottle off with more vodka. No cooking needed.
1.6 grams of beans to pint of alchol for single fold vanilla extract. It takes like a year of hanging out, and will still smell somewhat alcholy when its done. You should taste it with some yogurt or whipped cream to see if it tastes OK. You can also use wood finishing blocks to mellow things out, but I've never tired that method. Pressure cooking alcohol even in sealed mason jars is considered unsafe by a lot of people due to the risk of alcohol vapor getting out and causing fires. Hip pressure cooking ha an article about it on their website.
Thanks for all this detailed info! I'm thankful I didn't have any jars break.. yikes! But I definitely didn't do my due diligence and look around at multiple recipes like I normally do... but at least by sharing my failure I'm able to be helped out by you and others for the future!
@@frochoffthebranch I think the fear of failure and being afraid to talk about our failures is a problem for a lot of people (including me) and something I struggle with. If we were more open to sharing our failures I think everyone would have better learning experiences.
And when you are done using your beans for extract you can still scrape the seeds out to add to ice cream, custard, ect. You can also add the spent pods to some granulated sugar to make vanilla sugar. You can also try to do a second round of extract with them.
@@katep4485 Yes, totally agree. We all learn the best from our own trial and error and from the experience of others...what else is there? pride is a huge barrier, so if we can realize that and be humble enough to seek out solutions, we will be in good shape
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve thought about it but have never done it! I have lots of dried beans so that’s a really great idea, thanks for bringing it into the forefront of my mind!
To make vanilla you need 1 ounce (by weight) of vanilla beans to 1 cup of alcohol. You can use vodka or bourbon. Make sure your vanilla beans are fresh as possible. They should be plump and pliable, not dry at all. Do not cut the beans. Be sure they are completely submerged in the alcohol, bend or tie if necessary to get to fit in your jar. Let them sit in a dark place for at least 6 months, shaking jar occasionally.
Love Azure Standard & would love to see what you cook up with some of this....I have switched to the powdered broths. Last longer....and I store in the large glass gallon jars....🥰 Thank you for sharing. Subbed💞
Thanks for the recommendation and sub! 😘 I will be posted some more cooking videos soon 🙂 hmm I’ve seen those powdered broths but since I’ve never used them I wasn’t sure.. glad you mentioned it though, I’ll have to add some to my next order! Love me some long food storage in glass 😎
@@frochoffthebranch You're welcome❤ Looking forward to your cooking vids. 🥰 I have powdered beef broth, chicken broth & vegetable. Love them! No bad additives either. If I need a quick broth I pull my jar from the pantry, take 2tbsp to 6-8cups water in a glass mixing bowl, and ready to use....no waist & yes meee tooo...love long shelf life and glass jars😬🙌💃🏻
I bought the Pacific brand vegetable broth from WinCo. I don't know how the price compares or if you have a WinCo near you. Have you tried Azure's date syrup? It's very delicious. It tastes like caramel.
Oh nice I dong have a Winco near me (I don’t think?) but I should look around at other local stores to see if I can get a better price. No I haven’t tried the date syrup!!! Yum that sounds so good. What do you use it for usually??
That's a great idea! thanks for this video idea Tammy, I will make the effort to show that here soon. In the meantime, you can find my oatmeal cranberry cookie recipe on my blog --> frochoffthebranch.com/crisp-chewy-oatmeal-cranberry-cookies/
I sure did, still not sure what went wrong. I’m thinking not enough beans per pint jar... I just made a new batch with double the amount of beans per jar so hoping in a few months time it will prove to be a better choice
Hello. I'm from England and I've found a bulk place like azure. If you like spices and herbs there's a great company called starless botanical - a lot of their stuff is organic, for teas and other natural herbs mountain rose herbs are great. These are 2 company's that I've seen a ton of hauls on.
Awesome thank you for the recommendations! I’ve been wanting to make a mountain rose order for awhile but I’ve never done it! I’ve only heard great things though 🙂
Love mung beans. We make a lot of kitchari for our family. I always have a batch frozen in the event anyone gets sick or after the holidays to give the gut a break. Also, love the tomato powder. Nice to just add a little to soups also. My favorite is carob powder from azure and love the giant jump carpet cleaner. 😊
Oh awesome! I will look up how to make kitchari 🤗 I also like to have simple bone-broth based soups in the freezer ready to go for that sort of thing too! Ok yum I want to try the carob powder.. I’ve heard great things on other hauls too. And azures cleaners have proven to be great for us so far, I’ll also look into the carpet cleaner 😊
I bought organic mung beans on Amazon. I tried multiple times and failed. They smelt so bad. If you figure out how to make them, I would love to see a video on it. Thank you!
@@shellyk5423 how did you make them? I have also used them in place of regular split peas. I have never had an issue with them smelling bad. When I make kitchari I follow the recipe from Mary’s Nest. But I have never cooked them alone.
Never get grade A beans for vanilla. They aren't dry enough. I would put twice as many pods per pint and always cut open the pods. For the first month store it on your counter so to remember to shake it at least once a day. You can purchase drier beans and cut and pop them into your jar with other beans. I have never seen instructions to process them in any way. Put them on the shelf and leave them for 6 months but I prefer a year at least.
Wow ya crazy huh?! I still haven’t totally figured it out. Lots of suggestions from others on this video which I’m thankful for but haven’t tried it yet. There has to be a secret step we’re missing 😂
Either in its original brown bag packaging from Azure or I’ll transfer to a glass jar, usually half gallon. It will keep fresh in both those options for a long while. I think glass is superior but I sometimes I’m either lazy or like the paper bag for travel.
Yes for sure! You can use coconut sugar in a 1:1 ratio for cane sugar in any recipe. Flavor is very similar in final product (better in my opinion) and does not cause harm to the body like cane sugar. Will not spike blood sugar or cause an inflammatory response in the body 👍
Thank you, I will be trying that very soon. Do you know if you have to have 80 proof vodka? I could only find 40 proof at the store I bought from but I think I read somewhere that I needed 80... not sure
That's an awsome grocery haul! A little healthy tip is slow down.. sounds like your gasping for air all the time. You need to breath while you talk. Just pretend you are talking to a friend that is right in front of you.
Maybe next time do a voice over or pick another time to film if someone is going to vacuum or whatever that awful noise was... couldn't even finish watching it was so bad..
