Today we will be showing you our Azure standard grocery haul. We want to talk about how to get on the same page as your spouse when it comes to health. It helps so much to be on the same page to know what you’re buying and why you’re buying it. You want to feel like you’re a team on this and make sure it’s not something causing a lot of friction.
The first place we want to spend our money is our health. Becoming educated when it comes to nutrition and the efficacy of various ingredients and the importance of it in overall vitality and health is very important. We view the food that we buy as preventative health care, just like the supplements we take. We would rather spend money here than after the fact with doctor bills and prescriptions.
We want to look at our family, in general, realizing we have to go out of our way to build the culture we want in our home. We have to be so vigilant and intentional. What is naturally going to come into our home is not lifting us up at all or pulling us into the direction that we want to be going.

Would love to know how you meal plan etc! Also thanks for this video it’s great! Weston Price Foundation also has a ton of resources about food research re: living milk, why fat isn’t bad, prioritizing pasture raised etc and have specific guidance for pregnancy and breastfeeding. I’m very blessed to live in an area with lots of organic farms and some pastured meats, but in Canada you can’t legally buy raw milk (herdshares are a loophole) but it’s hard to find farmers willing to put their neck on the line (25 years jail time is penalty). If our new family gets land someday (broke and in a trailer right now) we will definitely be getting a cow or some goats!

Great video! I struggled with the cereal thing so much. Azure has this great cereal called kamut puffs which is just kamut grain and that’s it. With a little raw milk and honey it tastes like those smacks. Or whatever mainstream cereal that is. It’s husband approved too 😉

Dear Katie and Elisha, thank you for your channel and the great posts you make! Can I recommend you a topic for a new video? When it comes to small kids, could you kindly approach the pro-active and intentional child-trainning that you guys do (in contrast with reactive discipline in light of bad behavior) in the specific case of sibling relationships, promoting voluntary solidarity and desire to make the other sibling happy during play time and interactions (instead of bickering and self-seeking, defensive behavior)? Thanks a lot!

I need to check out Azure, I do buy Bobs baking power because its aluminum free, i didnt know about baking soda, ive studied nutrition a lot, we have chickens, but I'd love a cow lol but seriously. Also, yes, when you google something, you get the mainstream information or traditional medicine, I just dont agree most of the time. Yes, with butter, Costco has another grass fed alternative to Kerry Gold, too. Great video. I'll check out these books!! I went to school for nutrition, I wantedbto become a Dietician before kids, but its funny all of the Dieticians I follow are more focused on disordered eating, and not being afraid of crappy food, they actually promote eating garage food in moderation, but it really is healthier to eat some bad foods then be in fear and stressed about ingredients too, however I feel like they should be informing us more in nutritious food, like those books you recommended. Thanks for the video!

Katie, to answer your question about why to not use Arm and Hammer baking soda, it is because it has been lab created. I buy Bob's Red Mill brand (I'm sure the Azure Standard brand is this way too) because it has been mined rather than lab created. Also, store bought baking powder typically contains cornstarch and aluminum so I make my own by mixing a sifted 1/2 cup of cream of tartar and 1/4 cup of baking soda in a mason jar. All this information is per the Sweet Laurel cookbook. Can you tell me where to find the video about your garage pantry in the mylar bags with buckets? I know I watched it somewhere but can't seem to find it here or on the Get It All Done Club... please help!! :) Reply

Our favorite tortillas from Azure are Stacy's. So good and normal tasting, too! Our go-to cold cereal is homemade granola with oats, coconut flakes, chia, chopped nuts, pumpkin seeds, honey/maple, coconut oil and grass-fed butter, (vanilla, salt, cocoa powder, cinnamon, or other flavor additions also make it in)- bake! Then dried fruit bits can be added once cooled, too. With 5 kids I batch cook this and keep it for Sabbaths or homeschool ski days. We also top yogurt with it. Thanks for sharing! Love your channel so much!!

Love this. We add about 35% fresh milled spelt berries to our sourdough. Since all the nutrients are in the Berry I would recommend the berries vs flour where half the nutrients are gone. But similar to einkorn it’s an ancient grain that’s easier digested, Not quite as low in gluten so it’s still makes fluffy bread but good middle ground grain.

Love seeing Azure hauls! We eat very similar! We actually bought the same Einkorn, but on purpose. We’re planning to use it to grow wheatgrass, so maybe an idea for you too! Also, highly recommend the Jovial einkorn pasta!! It is SO good! We prefer it over any pasta as we love the flavor of einkorn! It’s delicious! 💛

Our family has been ordering from Azure for a few years now and we really like it! We use spelt too :) it is known as an ancient grain (it's gone through less changes over time), so it is easier to digest (nutrient dense) especially when made into sourdough baked goods. It has a slightly nuttier taste and gives bread a more speckled appearance. Appreciate your efforts in seeking to glorify God in all areas of your life and steward wisely what He has entrusted you!

You should get spelt grains and then grind them fresh! We usually use spelt for all our tortilla making. For some people with gluten problems, spelt doesn’t bother them at all, so maybe the gluten is a little different. Each person is different. Spelt can be directly subbed for wheat flour. I can make a loaf of bread with 3 cups of hard red or hard white grain, or with 3 cups of spelt grain. I love those graziers blocks of cheese too 😂 they can double as a handy club if needed.
@bethanyryan404
@bethanyryan404 Год назад
Spelt is also an ancient grain that contains lower levels of gluten compared to regular wheat flour. It has a higher concentration of protein too. We’ve made sourdough banana spelt muffins and really liked them. Sourdough spelt loaf was also really good too!

Einkorn all purpose is fantastic btw... I get it from azure. And yes on the baking soda. From what I understand, azure (or bobs red mill brand) is mined out of the earth. And arm and hammer is made in a lab or factory or something. I’ve never done spelt, I’ve tasted it and it’s good. I just like einkorn. Einkorn cream of wheat is delicious, made with freshly ground einkorn berries. Glad to know about kerrigold😅

It was fun watching you guys talk distrustingly of the conventional food system. We are with you. We've been whole food plant based for 6 years now, buying mostly organic. Just in case you'd like a tip from a vegan family. Dried organic chickpeas and other legumes and lentils are the ultimate longevity food (read the Blue Zones in case you haven't and would like to learn). Those are super cheap in comparison to meat and dairy. So if you add those in to your weekly or even better daily protein, not only are you cutting your cost in half but also feeding your gut microbiome some pretty incredible stuff found in legumes! :)

That’s a lot of things on the “no” list. 😬 Do you have any favorite recipes or resources for sweets that have no gluten or dairy? Random question to ask a stranger on the internet, but I’ll give it a try because I’m a bit desperate. :) I’ve been off gluten for 2 years but recently realized that dairy is becoming a strong “no”. (I’ve been mostly lactose free over that time.)

I love your honesty about health journey's! We're in the same place, just trusting Holy Spirit will guide us in making up the difference! Spelt flour is another ancient grain and it has the closest (still nutty) taste to current flour. It also has very low amounts of the gluten found in modern day wheat that most people have an intolerance to, so a lot of people with gluten intolerance and not celiac disease can eat it. It also has a higher protein content. With the baking soda there is aluminum involved in conventional processing and aluminum is known to leach into food so health conscious producers avoid it. We've started with Azure you're right, while sticker shock is high it is significantly cheaper than getting those ingredients from the health food stores.

A lot of butter color comes from the type of grass and the season the cow was in milk too. So if Kerry gold is imported from Ireland...Irish grass is different to grass growing on the prairie. Both cows could be gras fed and living a cow life but the color isn't always indicative of being better. Some cows thrive on green pastures from a postcard and some breeds thrice and produce good milk on prairies or even mountain grazing. All different grasses and soil profiles.

Low quality baking soda and can have aluminum 🙈 Also, Costco has great prices on the Teton sausages and siete tortillas 😊 Some of our favorites on azure are: any of their bulk organic spices, apple cider vinegar by the gallon (you can’t beat the price!) tomato paste in glass since the acid in the tomatoes can leach metals from cans, farmers market brand butternut and pumpkin purée for pies, muffins, soups, baked, etc. popcorn kernels, their everyday beeswax taper candles, mini dark chocolate chips, and if you want to grow a garden their plant starts are great in the spring!

I think maybe the baking soda/powder issue are claims of aluminum in baking powder. So if you want to research it that's the issue is aluminum.

Baking soda - a lot of people are actually confused with baking powder, which can contain aluminum. Soda doesn’t. We use A&H brand.

Interesting! Thanks. Do you know anything about the difference between regular baking powder and gluten free baking powder?
@rmo7729

@@Rosie_C as far as I’m aware, there is no gluten cross contamination in baking soda. Again, baking powder might be a different story. I’m not familiar enough with Celiac / the research to comment definitively.

Thank you so much for sharing your grocery haul. I literally was praying and asking God for wisdom and a strategy for eating healthier and where to shop and I came across Azure through a woman’s blog. I was like a child on Christmas Day. I like that you are able to get more for your money. I had made an Amazon list previously and already was hitting way over $200 for just a few items. I truly grateful that I just came across your channel today and the fact that you shared your haul from Azure just blessed me. The reason being is that I had questions about the sizes of certain items and the quality of the fruit. The reviews left me second guessing on certain things. So being able to see your haul reassured me. Katie, I had to laugh in reference to the spelt flour, because I too heard so many people speaking highly of it in their content and said ok I have to get this too then. 😂 from the research I did it stated that spelt has a good source of calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, iron and manganese. As well ad vitamin E and B - complex vitamins (esp niacin) it does however contain gluten, so may not be a choice for those trying to steer clear of gluten. As for the Arm and Hammer baking soda, it has raised a concern for people who want to live a chemical and toxin free lifestyle. The reason is due, to it having aluminum in it, which of course is a heck metal and can lead to many disease such as Alzheimer and Dementia. Therefore, it is suggested to buy aluminum free baking soda. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, and wisdom with all of us. God bless you and your family and may your channel continue to bless many lives now and to come. 🙏♥️

Ok so in my research I've found that arm and hammer and brands like it is synthetically derived which is why it's so inexpensive.

In Canada we can’t even get it legally. I haven’t found a source yet but I would pay $$$ (and my family is very broke) but the benefits of living milk instead of dead milk is just day and night!
